Urgent! Need help for my first LGS tournament

By zerotc, in X-Wing

Hey everyone,

I'm about to submit a list for my very first tournament (hurray!).

Any input at all would be appreciated - I'm still relatively new to X-wing, but I've had the most experience with Firesprays and mini-Swarms.

I used to run Kath, but having been somewhat disappointed by her performance; I've elected to drop her and go for the following:

Howlrunner

4 x AP

Bounty Hunter [intelligence agent]

I was hoping to make this as much as an all-comers list as possible. It's 5 TIEs which can hopefully deal with Falcons. Will numbers and the intelligence agent work against Phantoms? I'm not expecting top-quality players since it's only a 16 player tournee, but what does everyone think?

Kits I own: 2 cores, TIE fighter, E-Wing, B-Wing, Firespray, Lambda, HWK, Imperial Aces.

Thanks!

I'd replace the BH with an OGP shuttle with ion, gunner, and Vader for a modified doom/buzz shuttle- it would also leave 2 points for either an initiative bid or swarm tactics on howl.

Doom shuttles are nasty opponents for phantoms- as long as the Phantom is in arc the shuttle can kill it in two turns.

If I were doing a Firespray/Mini Swarm list, I'd do Krassis with a heavy Laser cannon, Howl, and 3 APs. I'd spend the last three points to either upgrade an AP to BSP with Draw Their Fire or give Howl Squad Leader.

... but I'm just realizing you don't have DTF or SL, so I'd do Recon Spec on Krassis.

That gives your Firespray both an offensive boost and a defensive boost (a focus on defense is nice). I like giving the enemy hard choices, if they focus on Krassis, it's going to take them plenty of time to burn him down, especially if he starts using both focuses for defense. If they focus on the TIEs, Krassis will be around late game, with hopefully less than 50 points worth of enemy left.

I don't think Int Agent is going to help that much against Phantoms. You only see their dial after you've set yours, and you won't know which direction they'll decloak.

I always like large ships for the extra HP.

I'd start off with OGP + vader and BH with RecSpec. Add in upgrades to suite you fancy (HLC?) then throw in Howl with APs. with the low PS (except for Howl) I'd to try to box in that phantom/Falcon

I think your list looks fine, especially since you say you have experience with that sort of squad. What I'd focus on is how you're going to play it -- setting up asteroids, deploying, formations and maneuvers. Have a plan for dealing with Phantoms, with Fat Han, tricksy Rebel Aces B-Wings, and swarms.

5 Ties is fine. Intelligence officer wouldn't be that helpful against phantoms, you want to block his decloaks, and those are rather obvious, but sometimes can be helpful. Maybe the 1 point iniative bid could be more helpful against other swarms, just personal preference imo.

Other option is the Krassix + HLC + rebel captive and Howlrunner + 3 Ties. It fares well against phantom (if you don't allow the other player to focus down krassix first ofc), and other lists.

But if you are committed to go with the list you presented, play different match ups with it, and learn the best way to deal with them. Don't focus too much on the lists as you learn to fly.

Thanks everyone.

I'm probably going to go with the Krassis HLC/RC and mini-swarm then.

Any particular tips on how to fly it? I guess since Howl won't be giving any bonuses to Krassis; I should fly him in at a flank?

In my first tourney I was flying a not-great 3-ship Rebel list. My only win was to a list very similar and I only won because he bonked all the TIE's and the BH(not sure who it was)when he tried to K. Make sure you know how long the TIE K is. You will usually move them first, so there's no reason to crash them all.
