Rogue Tradering in the Reach

By Marwynn, in Deathwatch

Hello Brother-Deathwatchers!

I'm helming a Rogue Trader game that's moving into the Jericho Reach (as punishment). I've been trying to absorb a lot of information, but I'd like to bend your augmented ears and tap into your experience:

- Are there pirates in the Reach? If so, which Clans/Tribes/Nations?

- There's gotta be Orks somewhere, right?

- Any uniquely cool places you think a bunch of wealthy rabble might have fun adventuring in?

- Which books would you recommend to read through?

I think every sub sector has a few pirates lurking about, just make some up. Also thanks to their webway technology Dark eldar can pop up anywhere.

Not many. But they can be found on the desert world of Shedu in the Outer Reach. It has some scattered clans of warring orks. If you want more orks to fight: the warp can always spit out a space hulk full of orks.

There are a lot of Tau about. Perhaps your RT could help in some peace talks (not much chance of peace but mabe a temp cease fire while both factions concentrate on fighting the tyranids.)

Carmyn (pleasure world) - A world used as a retreat from the horrors of war and the stresses of high-level command. Its existence was only known to those within the senior command.

Books: The core rulebook ofcourse.

The Outer Reach and The Achillus assault (both give lots of usefull info on the Jericho reach)

Rites of battle (has a section on how to bring rogue trader into deathwatch!)

There are probably plenty of pirates at large within the Reach. Between Chaos reavers, Tau strike ops (not technically pirates but still space ships) and pure pirates thriving on the huge weapon shipments, they would proably be fairly easy to find.

See Robin's post.

There's a line. I think they call it the Angevin line, that no Tyranid space vessel may be allowed to cross, and most navy ships serve there, at least for a while. Perhaps if the Rogue Trader wants some support amongst the naval officers, that'd be a good place to operate for a short while. There is also mention of 'Honoured Dead' in Rites of Battle. Unbreakable coffins that many believe to grant mystical powers to those that open them. It states they sell well enough for a pirate to supply and pay for an entire army. Sounds like something some RT's might be interested in.

See Robins post again.

The Hadex Anomaly is the mini-eye-of-terror in the centre, and the end point of the chaos salient. You'll get pirate clans operating in the region.

There are also very ancient xenos artefacts hidden on many worlds, which very few people know about. Obviously, these artefacts are not functional technology, and would not be worth billions to the right members of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

I forgot about those coffins! Good call!

Thanks guys! That'll give me lots to read and think about.

The Reach seems to host the big hitters (well most of them) of the 40k universe: Chaos, Tyranids, and Tau.

I have a lot of books to grab, I already have the Core and the Jericho Reach books, so it looks like I'll grab at least 3 more.
