Come at me bro! or Tanks for all the Lasers

By Solaufein, in X-Wing

So, inspired by Mr Sable's wondrous post with some really fun B-Wing loadouts, I used my favorite of them to make a squad. Tada!

Ibtisam (28)
Elusiveness (2)
Sensor Jammer (4)
C-3PO (3)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Tarn Mison (23)
R7 Astromech (2)
Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
Total: 100
I've never used Biggs before, but man, this list screamed for just that little bit more annoying. Tarn and his lil R7 are in my lists so often they oughta be payin' me rent. As for Ibi? Oh Ibi, I adore you, and have been trying to find a place for you since I first saw you, and darnitall, this may finally be it.
The goal should be simple, pour fire into the enemy and hope to trade favorably as the list has two ships you really don't want to 1v1, at Baron pit or otherwise. Start 'em close together, but once Biggs drops you can break up or stay together for concentrated fire power.
I'm not sure how it'll handle Falcon shenanigans, cuz honestly, I never see them, so I dunno how to gauge it. Phantoms will be rough, but I'll see how that goes, I can probably break arcs up to cover territory.
Outside of that, any obvious flaws or weaknesses you all see? Tweaks/changes/upgrades?
P.S. YAY IBI

I would move slow, since the best way to disrupt it (outside of sheer firepower) would be to force a k-turn. You'll be k-turning at all different speeds and if you don't plan your formation right, you might have half your ships bumping each other, stressed out, and facing the wrong way.

You could also be vulnerable to AoE weapons like Assault Missiles.

Also, the general sentiment is Offense > Defense in this game. No one except Tarn really has an offensive boost, so you might struggle to do some meaningful damage if your dice go cold.

That said, I think defensive Ibby is a lot of fun. While expensive, every time I used her (pre-C3P0) I usually squeezed and extra round of shooting out of her, which is valuable (as long as she hits something!)

Agreed, I generally ignore most defensive strats in this game. However, i think it may work here. Dice going cold will be worse for me, for sure, but you do get to be a rock to grind your enemies to dust on.

Good call on the advancement speed. I'm betting the formation wont last past turn 2-3 though, as once biggs is gone, there aren't a lot of reasons to fly super close anymore.

I may have a game this weekend, if so, we'll see how she fares.

Elusiveness? Seriously?

It is a great way to stress her to trigger her ability, and combos well with the rest of the defensive options she has. I don't like relying on red maneuvers to activate her ability, and PTL doesn't really help her defensive abilities.

I should also note that this ends up with 2 dice Han can't use his ability to reroll. That is 2/3rds of a standard attack. I love that idea so much I want to make an honest idea out of it, marry it, and have little baby ideas with it.

I still don't face falcons much, but I wanna see the Han player's face when he hits that.

I freaking love that.

I loved this Ibtisam build from Sable's thread, too, and likewise my first thought was pairing her with Tarn. Two annoying-to-kill ships. With Biggs and a Bandit? Nice build. Shores up the green dice which are notoriously unreliable, but I wonder if maybe more offense with the last 37 points would be more effective? Ibtisam can still do alright with Focus and a re-roll if she uses Elusiveness, and I suppose Tarn can use his Focus for offense as well. But I feel like Biggs will be using it mostly for defense and the Bandit only has 2 dice. It's still 4 guns, but only 2 really effective ones. Either way, Ibtisam gets super extra bonus points for using both Elusiveness and Sensor Jammer.

I debated a more offensive ship, I just wasn't sure where to go....

It needs to be something robust, either through tankiness or evasiveness in order to not just get blown to spacedust as the only good target. I debated a tricked out E-Wing, but I get really nervous with 3 ship builds.

Thanks! I wish I could take credit, but its paraphrasing a quote from the wondrous and immortal Dr Cox from the TV show Scrubs. :)

Interesting build but I think I'd rather keep it simple:

Blue Squadron Pilot + E2 + C-3PO

Blue Squadron Pilot + E2 + Han Solo + Sensor Jammer

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

Prototype Pilot + Chardaan Refit

No good target there. It has the 3PO tank, Jammer Han, and a batch of cheap hard to hit A-Wings. Go for the B-Wings and the A-Wings go to work swarming around you. Chase the A-Wings and the B-Wings win the war of attrition.
