Gemmer's Jammers

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing

So I've started to latch on to a really tough little A-wing build:

Gemmer + SD + Test Pilot + Chardaan + Push the Limit

He's tough to hit, can easily get into range 1 for the extra Agility, or out to range 3 for an extra die. Makes him a poor targeting choice, while allowing him to zip through the battle and target injured ships for the kill.

And I enjoy ships with Sensor Jammers, so I was thinking of adding

2 x Blue + Sensor jammer

The thought here is that Sensor Jammers turn a hit to an eye, forcing a players to spend a Focus. This means return attacks from my B's are likely to be against unmodified defense rolls.

I'm considering rounding out the list with:

Airen Cracken + Squad Leader

He would help B's gain a little extra positioning, Focus, etc.

Comes in at 99pts, 8 Red dice, 8 green, 24 health. Lots of maneuverability.

Will still struggle with Phantoms, because Phantoms. Though I do make the Initiative bid possible to deal with anyone running Sigmas.

I like my chances against Han, though Gemmer is far less likely to hold on to his Stealth Device.

I hate that everything revolves around the "does it work against Phantoms" mindset nowadays. It's not your fault, but it seems to kill off a lot of lists, just because they'll get eaten up by them. But this is the day we play in...

Anyways, two B's with a defensive boost isn't bad. Not great, sure, but better than naked B's and those are already scary. I'm always hesitant about sensor jammer though, because it's essentially useless if they already planned to use that focus (which is most of the time)

Against Han you can survive just staying in range and keeping your arc facing him. Focus-evade is highly useful in conjunction with SD. Range 1 would be optimal since you will get your 3 dice attack there and you'll have 5 dice against his 4. Depends on what Han is packing though.

If you're anticipating going against someone with Gunner, at least your Sensor Jammers kick in each time (I believe). If going against Luke (crew), however, your opponent has robbed you of 8 points.

I would try squeezing Jan Ors onto one of your B-Wings, then a Hull Upgrade and a FCS on the other. In my opinion, it would net you more offensive/defensive bonuses than the 2 sensor jammers.

I find Gemmer is hard to fly well against high PS pilots. Unfortunately, that's a lot of ships these days. I think it would be the same for the B-wings.
