Best investigator?

By pittplayer, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

who do you all think is the best investigator?

one thing though!! only by him/her self not in combo

what investigator would stand the best chance in a solo game with one investigator?

should it be a gate closer? a monster fighter? a little of both?

I don't know who is "best." Patrice, Daisy, and Mandy are clearly popular, "top-tier" and to many, "broken."

However, I always enjoy drawing Diana and Rita. Bob Jenkins has a place in my heart too.

I can't say who would be the best to play solo, but I can say that it should generally be a fighter type. One-investigator teams nearly always lead to final combat, so a closer/sealer is not usually helpful. Characters like Jim Culver or Sister Mary, who start with no lasting weapons or money to buy weapons, for example, would generally do worse.

That said, I don't recommend 1-investigator games except as maybe for the novelty.

yes but everyone rates investigators by how they help others (mandy, patrice) i want to know who is just the best by himself

Maybe because Arkham Horror is a game of co-op first and foremost? I say Daisy then.. happy?

ah is both one player and coop to say it is coop first is wrong. you prefer coop but the people that made it, made it playable by one player too. i mostly play one player, so you saying coop first is like saying my opinion doesn't count. wrong, you dont need to be snide.

Daisy? she is a very good choice but can she handle the monster onslaught coming her way? is you think daisy then how would you play her in solo? what spell would you get?

In a one-investigator game, you're looking for somebody who can fight an ancient one. That's it, really. Especially if you go about adding boards, one character cannot handle it all and something is going to slip.

If you have your heart set on sealing, I'd recommend somebody who can sneak, because you won't have time to kill monsters. Wendy is good at this, able to dance past most monsters, and starts with the means to almost seal two gates. But then, you don't want her if it goes to final combat. Wilson is a good choice, I think, with good evasion stats and a fighting chance against some ancient ones. But looking at it like this will not tell you the best investigator.

Hank Samson is good possibly. He can kill about anything if you get him a magic weapon and a shotgun. He has 5 move and 5 fight for the sealing. Just gotta hit the gates before the monsters walk off them into the streets.

I'm tempted to say Patrice, but her starting cash is so low it's a bit problematic to play her without a bank loan. Still... She'll be able to blast the Ancient One with 20+ clues on the first round of combat. On the other hand Mandy gets rerolls and if she's blessed, and fighting an AO that won't kill her in the first round or two, that'd be better off in the long term. And then of course there's Daisy... I'd say if I had to do a one player game I'd go for Daisy, search for alchemical process and start stocking up for the final battle (aiming for a +fight ally and double shrivelings).

got a real dark horse!!

Finn!!

Think about it, great speed, can sneak around monsters when the board is full, has money to equip himself(fight sucks), doesnt have to lose items when he is tossed around by mobs of beasts. He may just be the best solo character. And he starts out with a lot of stuff. With the right equipment he can be a monster, if he doesnt start with it he can buy it!! What do you guys think?

I dunno why, but Joe Diamonds is the hotspot in my gaming group.

Yeah, if your only criteria is being able to solo the game, Joe Diamond is your best bet.

No, sometimes I play with 1 or 2 friends, making it a 2 or 3 player game. They all shotgun Joe Diamonds.
