Do only those Uruk-Hai of Amon Hen have Toughness for now?

Edited by gandalfDK

All the enemies in the 3rd quest have toughness

I find myself strangely ambivalent about this box. I don't know if it's because of all the delays or if, more likely, that I won't be able to put the entire fellowship in my deck as allies. One of the reasons I love The Black Riders so much was that it seemed like I could play it as close to the story as I wanted even as a solo player. (Of course I didn't get an Aragorn ally.) I know the boxes have card limits but...

What I find most disappointing of the box is the low number of player cards. 8? only 8? Really? It's worse than an AP, and even the AP that would introduce Gandalf would have Narya in it. I stand by my opinion that they should increase the number of player cards we get in each product, or else it feels like the encounter cards are awesome and have a lot of depth while we only get a couple player cards and it really doesn't do justice to the book IMO.

Agreed. I was SUPER excited about this box for a long time, but the player cards are pretty disappointing. Only 1 new hero and he breaks the game so I'll probably only play him once and be done. They wasted too many player card slots on Gandalf attachments and boons. The only player card from the whole box that I expect I'll use often is Bilbo. We'll see how useful the one-and-done allies are. Boromir ally could be good in a secrecy deck, but that's only if nobody else is running a Boromir hero.

However, I'm still really excited about the encounters and continuing campaign mode. They look to be very challenging and very well done.

The price we pay for getting ourselves a neutral hero.

I guess it would have been hard to include ally versions of each of the fellowship members. So there is that, and I am glad that we got Gandalf. I may not use him outside of this environment, but I hope it will be fun to play him.

Just picked up my box and now I have to build a deck.

Here's something I missed: We can use Frodo from The Black Riders as our Ringbearer instead of the Frodo from this box if we wish. I probably won't, but I think it's cool that we can.

On the other hand, I dimly remember that changing hero's would incur a penalty, but that didn't matter to me during the first box and now it does...

Yes, I have thought about that as well. You can't really do a thematic playthrough without changing your heroes here and there, and that's going to hurt with threat raises. But maybe after the breaking of the fellowship we'll have some special rules that accommodate for this?

The Ring Goes South campaign card allows you to freely change your heroes without any penalty (very thematic! The fellowship of the ring being formed!) so perhaps we may get another card like this later in the campaign?

Wonderful news!

Great news. Sorry Fatty, bye-bye!

Didn't see Middle Earth on the list. Moving on.

No thank you! We don't want any more visitors, well-wishers or fake passport sellers!

I agree on the players cards. But we got a great hero, some cool allies(!) and Man those scenarios are awesome! I love the new mechanics and the designers did a great job imo of following the story!

Expert Treasure-Hunter + Hidden Cache + Wizard Pipe could be a killer combo - a sort of Steward of Gondor for Gandalf, so that he always has resources to spare - and can play the next card in the deck every phase! I want to pair him with Elrond so Vilya can pull its weight as well, but putting the two highest-threat heroes in the game in the same deck feels like a bad idea.

Some hawbits would do.

You could make a Three Elven Rings of Power deck. (only Gandalf doesn't have his precious yet..) Galadriel can keep your threat at 0 raise, but you would have to include a lot of threatreduc, (starting threat of 36!) mulligan for elrond's counsil etc.

At least I'm going to try that. Sure it's going to be powerfull.

It's going to take a lot of heat very early.

The cost of playing a wizard, a queen and an elfmaster.

I want try made deck Gandalf / Glorfindel (Spirit), Aragorn (Leadership).

At the beginning of the quest "The Ring Goes South" in Campaign Mode I can chooses one Boon card: Sting, Mithril Shirt (for Frodo), Glamdring (Gandalf) or Andruil (Aragorn) and adds it to my hand. Remains unchosen Boon cards I shuffle into my deck.

In deck I want put:

Bilbo Baggins - to get Wizard Pipe.

Galadriel + Sneak Attack - to get unchosen Boon cards, Gandalf's Staff, Light Of Valinor, Steward Of Gondor, Celebrians Stone, Unexpected Courage, Sword That Was Broken.

Arwen, Flame Of Arnor, Elronds Counsel,The Galadhrims Greeting.

This far only a general concept ;)

In my play through, Fatty conveniently died during Flight to the Ford...

You can't sneak her, sadly

Edit: Well, you can if you just want the 3 willpower and an ally for a turn, but not if you want to use her ability
