these days? (baratheon)

By Guardian of the Night, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I don't know many people that are still around that know my style of deckbuilding...but it is usually "outside the box"...

with the limited cardpool in LCG i am finding that hard to do, but nonetheless i am curious...how are people building baratheon these days?...i would assume the majority are running them summer...

there are some good winter cards for bara but not really enough to dedicate a deck to...so where as i have a deck built and i am happy with how it plays, it isn't unique enough for me and was wondering if anyone was doing anything cool with bara lately that i could play around with...

I am in no way asking for other players "ideas"...just banter i suppose.

suggestions...?

and thank you ktom in advance lol.

bara can do a lot right now. in fact i'd say they are the most flexible house.

Try a vigiliant (non season needed) deck

Try winter again (shadow stalker is a great card...just heads up for seductive promise)

I, of course, run Men With No king out of them.

I also think their character base is the most flexible. They have a lot of good low cost charcaters that can enable them to get away with trying to something funky.

How funky are you trying to go?

I've seen Devious Intentions run OOH with the aim of getting it on a vigilant Robert. I thought that was pretty cool.

thank you for the reply.

honestly i don't know. I have been out of the loop for awhile and am a bit rusty.

i love shadow stalker but i am not much on anything else winter...The Wall if there was other NW symetry to be found.

i tend to run a lot of vigilant as lannister kneel is popular here...but not a lot of neautrals are being used as of right now so MWNK wouldn't help much.

sorry i know that wasn't much help.

as of right now i am running summer so i can have some draw power...and i like it ok.

I guess i am asking a question with a simple answer....wait for more cards lol.

Egg- Actually i had thot of that and was considering it for fun.

oops about the double quote...i am an idiot when operating these threads.

Well, in the days of LCG and the Core Set, "out of the box" takes on a different meaning (so to speak). However, as you are finding, the limited card pool does not support a lot of "off beat" builds right now. That said, I would agree with Lars that Baratheon is the most versatile house right now, but most of that versatility still seems to come down to some flavor of rush (I personally would categorize Lars celebrated MwNK deck as rush, too). So despite the versatility, it could still feel unsatisfying to someone who likes to play decks that do things their opponents aren't likely to see coming.

One "off-the-wall" Baratheon idea I have had but not tried to build yet is an "all-discard, all-the-time" control deck. It needs a ton of influence, but if you can figure out a way to pay for Westeros Bleeds, Too Proud to Bow and the like, you can keep discarding everything in play (except for your Knight of the Rainwood, King's Champion or Lords and Ladies you have put Bodyguard on) in Dominance, then using Baratheon's discard recursion (there's some) to bring them back. It's a half-formed idea, but may be worth looking into.

Another intriguing possibility is a deck centered around Fox's Teeth, going first, and possibly standing effects for your opponent's characters.

Mostly, "off-the-wall" is going to depend on either going OOH (not always an easy thing in with the resources of the LCG environment) or waiting for a larger card pool. Depending on what the other CPs look like in KLE, a Baratheon "City of Shadows" deck might start looking good in a month or two.

Oh, and if you do build a Summer deck, think about NOT using the Kings of Summer agenda. Once KotSW builds his GJ Winter deck, that "draw 1 card if it is Winter" thing is usually not worth the risk. You can find other ways to draw if need be.

thank you everyone.

i will look through everything again and see what i can come up with.

If i do come up with something i will post the decklist for critique.

thank you again.

My two favorite Bara decks are Vigilant and Winter. I started with a Summer build but between Bannerman and Hunting Spear for vigilant (with recursion to bring it back), and burning blade, shadow stalker, and The Wall I was just having too much fun. to go back to that build.

I don't play Baratheon but I have thought about a defensive deck with Knights and Royal Guard. You defend, you can win power with renown & Claw Isle and you attack mainly with Vigilant characters (and Kingswood Trail).

You have a lot of cards in Baratheon that earn you extra power (Slaador Saan of course, Martial Law, Claw Isle, maybe the Knight of Flowers).

But I guess you should wait for the Royal Guard Agenda (+ more Royal Guard characters) to be out in order for this kind of deck to be really effective.

The LCG cardpool still is quite limited, but there's some wierd ideas I've been thinking might work in Baratheon. Ktom's all-discard -deck seemed wonderful in this regard. =)

I think the most functional idea that I haven't seen talked about in these forums would be a winter Baratheon+Greyjoy deck (with the agenda) with both Shadow Stalkers and Wintertime Marauders in the same deck. The combo of these two cards would allow you to get rid of almost anything off the table... Somehow bordering on evil. ;)

Add in at least War Horn's, but also your pick of Wintertime armadas, Hunting Spears, Burning Swords, Demon's Dance, OOH Long Winter etc. This idea can either be taken in a clear the table completely kind of direction, or in a more kill for power -type of direction, with a power/renown rush supported by heavy killing and discarding.

My faction i lke to play most is Baratheon at the moment. I have a decent deck put together that runs off the summer agenda. I've have been able to compete in our league fairly well. The one problem i keep running into is Lannister's kneel and board control. Their cards combo very well. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about circumventing this with Baratheon i would greatly appreciate them. I'm also really excited to see what comes out for martell and greyjoy in the upcoming expansions. Just throw some ideas out there and i promise to check them out.

I have also been out of the loop for a little while and haven't seen some of the newer cards, also is the kings of the sea expansion out yet and if so how is it. Greyjoy has always been one of my favorite houses and i'm excited to be able to build a deck ouot of their cards.

how many attachments do you run? that is a good way to cut down on lanni's kneel ability (especially the vigiliant bannermen attachemtns). Also tyr things like distinct mastery and to be a stag for standing.

Kings of sea is not out yet, but there have been some spoilers. check in the news section on the mini site. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=10&enmi=A%20Game%20of%20Thrones%20LCG

Edit (happily) or you can check tzumainn.com/agot now as he has them up under kings of the sea :D no pictures there though.
