Why no force die??
Umm... R2-d2 is the best pilot in the galaxy. Anakin and Luke aren't flying anything! Turned off targeting computer?!?!? HA! There's a little droid there that thinks its a bad idea and turns it back on. Vader shoots what again in the trench? R2-d2. Vader knows what's up. Little Ani taking out a Capitol class ship his first time in space...I think not... R2-d2 did that too. Look through a lot of the EU and you see R2-d2 "taking over" piloting. Little toaster is the best in the galaxy.
One of my favorite ways to watch the OT is with the assumption that Artoo has stepped in and is manipulating all the events on a galactic scale. Like he watched Sidious do it in the PT and decided that he could do the same thing to take him down. Pretty lulz.
And it makes you realize just how integral he is to the whole story.
I think whilst the OP's idea would have merit if it was in the game from the start, it would be too messy to shoehorn in at this stage, eapecially when the current method works fine.
As a related note however, I wouldn't mind being able to upgrade unnamed pilots to being force-sensitive, with it granting them some minor benefit. It strikes me that this would probably work best as an EPT, but that runs into the problem that most unnammed pilots can't take EPTs in the first place.

They went even deeper with it multiple times in the Clone Wars series and I've joked with some of more more nerdy friends that Vader didn't bring balance to the force by fathering Luke or killing the Emperor, but rather by acquiring, upgrading, and never wiping R2-d2's memory. Most major events in the Galaxy are tied to the little toaster who could.
I recently was checking out the Star Wars RPG and discovered they have a special die for character's that have the force. Why not give character's in X-Wing like Vader and Luke a special die. Granted Vader, Luke, and Katarn would be the only characters that could use it, but it would make them more special in battle as all force users are.
Just a thought.
Slightly off topic, but I was wondering Lumberjack Nick, does your handle contain the word lumberjack because you actually work in the forest industry? I only ask because I happen to be a Canadian west coast logger.

it would be interesting to see some 'force sensitive' [Pilot cards and crew cards] emerge that impact on the game in new ways.
One of my favorites! Monty Python is the best. "All right, we'll call it a draw." HA! Gets me every time.
Don't forget that many of the Royal Guard Pilots also are probably force users.
I wouldn't mind seeing an EPT tree at some point that can get you minor bonus for 1pt and allow you to spend more points on other FORCE upgrades. I think it could add a lot of FLUFF back into the game and open up design space.
A pilot's aptitude with the force, as it applies to flying, is already incorporated into their abilities. There's no reason to add another dimension to the game when it functions fine as is.
Yeah, but couldn't most pilot skills be considered "using the force" if applied to a force sensitive pilot? I guess my over all point is If a pilot skill is suppose to represent using the force then it should be one of the best in the game. Luke's ability is decent since he wasn't that skilled in using the force during ANH at least, but Vader's ability is kind of weak compared to other pilot's abilities.
I just think force users should be more special than they are.
Maybe special upgrade cards would be better?
Edited by Lumberjack NickApart from making them better at attacking or defending, there is little that can be done with the force in space combat. I'd rather not see a complicated mechanic that isn't needed in the first place and adds little to the game.

Lol, no. Vader's ability is one of the best in the game, and the only reason Vader doesn't see more use is that he's stuck flying the worst ship in the game. It's kind of like Wedge's ability: they don't seem as obviously powerful at first glance because they're so simple, but they're brutally effective. But when you think about it more you realize that PTL is one of the most powerful EPTs, and Vader's ability is an even more powerful version of PTL.

Not one of the best, it is THE best in the game. It's not just awesome in some situations, it's awesome ALL THE TIME. The only reason no one flies Vader is because his ship is an overpriced turd in comparison.
How many battles/scenes was Vader on screen piloting? And he gets the indisputable best ability in the whole game? Clearly the original designers had the force in mind when they designed that.

Lol. Nope. I'm actually from the future. In the future time cops are carry the title of Lumberjack. You can read my illustrated bio at RocketHeroBooks.com

Which upgrades work well with Vader's ability?
Ashamed to admit I watched the awful Clone Wars anime with my kid, but one quote comes handy:
Droids talking: "Ever killed a Jedi?" "Me, neither." Which is the simple reason that thing is booooooooooring.
Invincible Jedis will not improve this game.
Because this is thankfully one of the few games that doesn't beat Jedi off just because they're Jedi- they're treated equally.
And thank god for that.
And that's all non-canon fanfiction, so it isn't really relevant.Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luke, and numerous other Jedi seen piloting fighters in the prequel were all using the force while piloting.
But were they really good pilots? In two battles Luke gets shot down once and almost dies several times, while all we see Vader do is drop in behind defenseless targets and execute them before getting tunnel vision on his target and almost dying. Meanwhile it's Wedge who becomes the rebellion's top ace, without any help at all from the force. It's why Anakin and Luke were such good pilots.
Wedge is the result of some Mary Sue fanfic himself.
Don't forget mareek!

IT IS NOT AWFUL! Take that back! Take it back now!
It really gets better. The last 2 seasons are really good. Really good.
>Clone Wars
>Anime
Uh. So are we talking about the original clone wars series or the CG one?
'Cause the latter one sure as f*ck ain't no Anime.
I always thought star wars would be better WITHOUT the jedi and the force. It's unnecessary -- the world and characters are interesting enough on their own without the hokey religion. I hope they get rid of it in Ep 7, but they probably can't now that it's established.

I think the scope of this game mostly based on the ships and space dogfigthing not the jedi and force even on the pilot cards you dont see artwork of the pilots themselves you see their ships. Infact i think this game benifts -greatly- from not going all fanboy on the jedi.
Corse of you want to have custom rules for having Vader hang out the side of his Tie advanced throwing force lightning across space and zapping other pilots nobody's stopping you
Just get a regular dice and some stickers the size of the dice faces and a pen.

What are you talking about? LOL The Force is the founding factor to the entire Star Wars franchise. Go watch Star Trek or Battle Star Galactica if you don't like The Force.
