New card idea

By CHUCKTASTIC, in X-Wing

What if FFG decided to make a card with the title "squardon tactics" or somehting along those lines. It would read- "If your list is made up of the same type of ship, all secondary weapons, Elitle Talents, Astromechs, System upgrades, and turret weapons are reduced in cost by 3"

It would encourage more simliar list without allowing there to be more ships (so no cray tie swarm)

Yeah....No.

Lists of similar/copy-and-paste ships already have a huge boost, it is called Redundancy.

Nice idea. But I think something more specific would be better. Like a Rogue Squadron Card (3 X-Wings) Friendly ship in Range 2 may share target locks. Black Squadron Squadron (5 Tie Fighters) Reduce defenders agility by one for each additional primary weapon arc he is in.

I would trust FFG to get the math part down to make them work where they have some balance. But bring the feel of squadron play to the tabletop.

I'd like to see more squadron play and i think Tuls idea is a little stronger.

Squadron cards rather than making things 'blanket cheap'. It would be a way of saying you get a discout for taking a certain 'formation' but its quite rigid.

The plus is you get more for your points the con is you get less flexibility.

Too many good ept and mods you'd be getting for free just because you limit your ship selection, four x-wing with predator and hull upgrade for free plus a droid it's just way too strong.

Yeah; I'd like to see more fluffy squad builds too, but I think the potential for abuse and over-powering is too strong here. It's better to leave the issue of being thematic to the player building the squad.

Definitely not.

If you wanted to do it for house rules, you could come up with "Squadron-only" upgrade cards that reward your choice of ships within a squadron.

It would be an interesting area of play to delve into. I've never tried it, I don't know that I ever will, and I'm confident that FFG never will. But it could be very interesting.

It really seems like their goal is to encourage mixed squads... why would they give us such a huge incentive NOT to do that when they have clearly been designing towards smaller, mixed lists.
