After a full on session of this game last night, my friend and I noticed that whenever we play 2 player games, the player who gets to go first wins.
First advantage is that on turn 1, you want to go first, as this normally lets you grab a favourable upgrade matchup, e.g. a star player on your side vs a couple of fans on theirs.
Second advantage is that on turn 4, you go last with the Bloodbowl tournament card out, which is pretty much an advantage worth 4 or 5 fans.
All in all, its pretty heavily stacked for winning the flip.
In our last six 2-player games, the player who has gone first has won.
We're considering our first house rule for this game, and we thought about making it a game where it goes:
Round 1) Player A is first player
Round 2) Player B is first player
Round 3) Player B is first player
Round 4) Player A is first player
However as a more fun alternative, we've thought it'd be even more fun to make it a five player game, but to add one Headline to the mix, always at Round 3.
Round 1) Player A is first player
Round 2) Player B is first player
Round 3 - headline) Player A is first player
Round 4) Player B is first player
Round 5) Player A is first player
What do you think? My instant thought is it makes teams that can generate fans indirectly even better, and its not like humans and skaven needed the boost. However it does mean we get to see headlines, which is a real treat for a 2 player match, and it does make for one round where at least one of the 2 active matchups is likely to be a proper full-on battle.
