Alternative use for Nera

By catachanninja, in X-Wing

Maybe its been to long of a day for me, but I think Nera could be a good combo with draw their fire. Plenty of shields so that crits get absorbed, the b wing is a solid ship as is and it lets you protect a Biggs or Wedge or other rebel fire magnet.

Or am I totally off base here?

I can see Nera as a cheap EPT bwing

Green Awing would function better as a cheap DrawFire ship, while Luke R2D2 is the best DrawFire ship currently available

Does someone have math to prove if Luke is better than, say, a named E-wing with DTF and R2D2? I would believe it either way, but E-wing has more shields to deplete and regenerate and more/better green maneuvers to allow R2D2 to take effect. I would be satisfied with just a comparison of Luke's ability vs E-wing's extra defense dice, if anyone has it!

If anything, luke is only 32pts, so he is significantly more affordable than say Eating DrawFire R2D2

I've never really seen DTF as all that useful since regular booms are so much more common than critical kabooms.

I use a Black Squad as a DTF'r when I have some non shielded ships I want to protect from crits, but that tends to be Imperial specific and not as common these days. That being said, some of the other cheap utility EPTs may be good. Wingman/Swarm Tactics/etc.

You've never landed a killing blow on Biggs with a crit, only to have Luke eat it and keep Biggs alive for one more turn. DTF can be pretty useful.

For the absolute cheapest DTF candiate, look at the Gray Sqd. Pilot.

Gray + R2-D6 + DTF = 22 points.

8 hitpoints to soak up crits with. He's cheap enough you can run him with a Fat Han and a Bandit

Blackmoon with the ept astromech is only two points over luke though.

Since part of the benefit for the E-Wing is its agility, and a Blackmoon has no defensive ability built in, paying two less points for it with DTF over Luke+R2D2 seems odd to me. If I were gonna do something that wasn't Luke, it'd be a Red Squad or a Grey squad with the EPTbot. I'd want it to be a lot cheaper then Luke.

The reasoning behind DTF Luke (as I see it) is that shooting at him sucks. However if you don't shoot him, then he basically eats a crit for free-ish each turn. If they do shoot at him, he's an obnoxiously hard to kill Biggs.

For fun I ran:

Nera Dantels:

Deadeye

B/E2 - Recon Soecialist

Advanced Proton Torps x2

Biggs

Bandit Squadron

Prototype Pilot

Proton rockets

Went 2-1 with it. Five dice with almost guaranteed five hits is devastating.

True.... but then there is no room for R2D2......

Me am no brain good today

i agree with giving a ywing an EPT with the droid. you get a cheap bullet sponge and an ion platform in one. In my experinece, y-wings draw a lot of hate anyway, especially if there are interceptors on the other side.
