The mega phantom experiment.

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Ok. This is just for funzies.

Whisper with VI, ACD, Sensor Jammer and Rebel Captive. vs 150 pts of enemy ships.

The catch is it's a boss fight phantom!!! When decloaking Whisper may use any template she wants! :o

But only has one hull.

What do you make of this scenario?

lol i want to try this now

150 points of enemy ships is plenty of ships to spread firing arcs enough to catch a Phantom. Plus, any YTs will destroy you with only 1 hull. If the point total comes down to about 80 then Whisper might stand a chance. This definitely sounds like a lot of fun.

Tycho + VI + Stay on Target might be a good boss-Whisper hunter.

If it's a boss I think whisper should have 4 hull and 3 shields regenerating a shield with every decloak

How about 100 points of ships that cannot shoot 360 degrees? :o

I know this is going to sound like a really silly question but...

Why would there be a Rebel Captive aboard the Empire's top of the line, super secret stealth fighter?

Make s sense to me aboard a shuttle (prisoner transfer, bait, etc...) but in a 2-seat fighter?!?

Maybe I'm just too much into "things making sense" and not enough into "I could really use this in a game to mess up my opponents".

If it's a boss fight Whisper should get 13 PS and add the Stygium only it adds reinforce instead of evade.

This ^^^

X100000

That actually is really funny now that you mention it. Imagine the rebel captive being a backseat driver. It'd be more of a distraction to the Phantom pilot than to the other Rebels,

I reckon I could smash this boss with a 100 point list, the 1 hull would make it even easier. 150 points, if the opponent knows whats coming, would be easy.

You've just gotta field a half dozen zs or ties for blocking in combination with a heavy hitter, or stress/ion delivery and she'll go down mighty fast.

Maybe give her Sensor Jammer AND advanced Sensors and Lorrir's barrel roll ability without the stress and you'd have something that could out-dangle a 150 point squad. Plus, no blount, no 360-degree-range-three turrets and no more than 4 tie fighers/z-95s. or something. I dunno.

I reckon as proposed, it'd be fairly easy to take out the boss if you just had a bunch of ships. Too many arcs to dodge, too easy to block

+1

Wedge Antilles, engine upgrade, and maybe stay on target for good measure once it hits. Remaining points can be spent however but doubling down with corran horn with veteran instincts seems fun throw Biggs in there just to keep it rude and maybe chewbacca with draw their fire.

Use flight instructor instead

Maybe the only way to capture that rebel was sending a stealthy ship to bypass the enemy defenses and come back. But before he got to the extraction point, a group of [insert Rebels or different Imperial Faction] discovered it and the fight started.

The captive is already on carbonite, tied, or unconscious, your choice.

Imagination man. Let it fly.

Or Blount with Ion Pulse Missiles.

150 points? How about:

Rebel Operative + Ion Turret x7

They'll catch you in arc eventually. Spread then out but stay within range 1 of 2 other ships and they'll catch you eventually.

Maybe the Rebel WAS a Rebel...

That is, he WAS until he defected to the Empire (perhaps a double agent)...

Now, as reward, they let him fly along in the latest and greatest new toy in the Imperial Fleet...

However, he has not won complete trust of his new employers, which is why he is only considered crew, and not pilot..

And maybe, he was really popular with his former (Rebel) squadron mates (or maybe he was just FAKING it...) and even now, in the face of his betrayal... even to the point of taking up arms against them... those former squadies are STILL hesitant to shoot him down...

Maybe...

Or maybe it is just a card in a game that could give you a handy advantage over an opponent...

Maybe...

Maybe the Phantom is being piloted by an Imperial Spy who used the stealth technology to infiltrate a Rebel moon, locate Mon Monthma's heroine addicted son, and extracted him to be used as leverage. The Rebel fleet discovers this and scrambles interceptors just in time as the Phantom pilot meets up with his/her escort.

Dont forget the gunner. Choke him twice in one turn. :)

I like the idea. I'd probably set things up this way:

The story is that a specially-modified Phantom is fleeing after its pilot has successfully (and very stealthily) infiltrated a Rebel stronghold and kidnapped an important Rebel officer (or maybe recovered a captured Imperial officer).

Whisper has full health, all the listed upgrades, and can use any template when decloaking but receives a stress token. Opposition is built with 100 points.

Set up on a 3x6 foot table, with the opponents on opposite edges lengthwise. 12 asteroids are placed using the standard rules, starting with the Imperial player (who has initiative). The Rebels place all of their ships first, anywhere within Range 1-3 of their edge. Then Whisper gets placed within Range 1 of the Imperial edge.

Whisper's objective is to flee the play area across the Rebel edge. The Rebel objective is to destroy Whisper, but the fatal damage must be delivered by a weapon with "Ion" in the title (or by Whisper fleeing the non-Rebel edge of the battlefield while ionized) so they can recover the captive.

^That's a decent scenario.

I like it.
