More Droid Cards

By Bakura83, in X-Wing

Would you guys like to see generic (or more uniques) protocol, medical, and mouse droids, as crew cards, or do you think they don't really have a place as combat upgrades?

I think protocol is a stretch, but I thought maybe it could be a scum card that gives you a -2/3pts, to represent you being able to get parts cheaper.

Maybe a medical droid could have an ability like: Huge Ships Only. If a damage effect would cause you to lose a (crew) or (team) upgrade card, discard this card instead. (0/1pts)

Not sure about Mouse Droids...

You have shamed me.

How did I forget gonk?

iirc, in the old Star Wars CCG, the Gonk gave you extra power(or was it a different game)? Maybe something like: Huge Ships Only. The ship section the Gonk is assigned to has +1 Energy Rating.

YVH-1 (crew)

Eject the droid towards any ship at range 1-2. Add this card to the ship's upgrades. That ship must roll 1 dice at the end of each end phase. Suffer any damaged rolled. YVH droids fired when Lando is on the enemy squad are instead equipped for reuse by Lando's ship.

In Battlefront 2(maybe 1 as well) Gonk droids dispensed Ammo

More seriously, if an X-wing version of Corran comes out they really need to release Whistler.

6pts - Increase your primary attack score by +1?

Or maybe:

4pts - Action: Increase your primary attack score by +1.

IG-88.

...wait.

What about something with R-3PO? Didn't he receive the programming (memory) from that one white protocol droid that had a rank back at Echo Base? From what I understand he had a lot of tactical information which would probably be good flavour for an Epic ship, or at least as a crew. Perhaps something co-ordinating actions for all ships at once for either a large energy spendature or as a one time discard?

Gonk droids were power droids, so the Battlefront thing was mainly just a mechanics piece. They were essentially movable "living" battery packs, so if we ever see one it would most likely be on Huge ships maybe granting an additional energy for a set number of turns or after moving.

for what it's worth, battlefront should never ever be used as a reference for anything factual in the star wars universe ever. It got pretty much everything wrong, as though it tried to.

Still hella' fun though.

Wedge had a droid (R2A3) in ANH and Biggs had R2F2 (technically R2Q2 but they had the same paintjob).

I would like to see more astromechs paired with their canonical pilots (like how someone mentioned Whistler)

I like to think of Whistler as R2-F2 because iirc, whistler was also green on silver. Also, I couldn't find Whistler's nomenclature as an astromech aside from actually being an R2 series. If someone actually knows where it is referenced, that would be awesome.

I would love to see more astromechs especially cheap ones that add better action economy/denial. I feel that an R2 version of R5-K6 that works like FCS would not be underpriced or OP if it was up charged 1 point. Rolling to retain a TL isn't that bad until I totally forget to do it post attack. Another R3 series that has negative side effects would also be pretty cool too.

Whistler 4 pts

When you spend a focus token defensively(offensively? Both would be broken on Corran) it isn't removed until the end of the round.

Synergy!

For the mouse droid I can see it with its own upgrade slot as Imperial Droid for Capital Starships. Even use the mouse droid as the upgrade icon.

Messenger Droid

You may move 1 (Imperial Droid) or (Crew) upgrade to another section on the same ship that has the matching upgrade slot unused, or you may swap 2 (Imperial Droid) or (Crew) upgrades on different sections of the same ship.

I was hoping this was going to be a thread about Tie Droids and Sentient Vulture droids... It is not.

With S&V we'll get more droids. I suspect the empire will eventually get a crew droid or 2 because we have an abundance of those slots and many of the astromech slots unlock some pretty potent combos and the imperials have NO mechanic or upgrade to balance. Now Scum get's their own special upgrade, the Empire should get something better than Seismic charges.

Might be something in the Scum astros, since that faction is implied (stated?) to be in the FYB category.

Yeaaaahh....yeah...no...

I loved that game to death, but there was so much wrong with it.

I know it will probably never happen, but I would like to see Dace Bonearm and IG-72 pilot cards with a Moldy Crow title for the scum HWK.

What the hell? I wrote this out and posted it, but it didn't show. So I re-wrote it, and both showed up. Hmm

I wouldn't mind seeing Bollux or Blue Max as separate cards. They could also incorporate a nod to the books by having Bollux nullify Max's required crew space if equipped on the same ship.
