TIE Avenger vs. TIE Defender (and some TIE Advanced)

By R22, in X-Wing

An additional attack die is a poor, uncreative solution.

I want the Avenger as a separate model. I fell in love with it when I originally saw it in the Decipher CCG.

I'd fly a 3/3/3/2 Focus, Target Lock, Barrel Roll, Evade, TIE advanced dial ship for mid-twenty price range regardless if if you called it TIE advanced or TIE avenger.

That's not the problem. Merely adding an attack die does not give the Advanced a unique function.

Chardaan Refit and Proton Rockets didn't give the A-wings unique functions beyond the original design.

The TIE advanced is an X-wing/B-wing tier medium Imperial ship in the vein of the TIE defender. Adding an extra attack die makes it viable in the role it's meant to fill (and courtesy of its low attack value, doesn't.)

I agree, but at least I could use one my 5 models that are collecting dust, without vader.

I don't see why you'd fix all the TIE advanceds but Vader (who is just as broken).

Lagomorphia, if you will notice, I didn't mention the Chardaan, but the A-wing Test Pilot title. Dual elite talents give the A-wings some unique options.

I still think another attack die is what the TIE advanced needs, (possibly equipped in its missile slot?) Question is, for how much?

If you're still around Juggler, given their very similar dials, how much would an extra attack die need to cost to bring the Jousting Efficiency of the TIE advanced in line with the X-wing?

I don't think that adding an attack die fixes the problem.

But to answer your question, an X-wing is worth around 17.75 points of jousting value, and effectively costs 20 points at PS1, resulting in a jousting efficiency of 87%. This is low enough that the generic X-wing is rarely getting used anymore in tournaments, which is predicted by a higher efficiency on the B-wing (90.2%), and Z-95 (103.4%).

A 3/3/3/2 statline is worth 20.9 points at PS1, so a TIE Advanced with 3 attack dice would have to be 25 points at PS2 to have the same jousting efficiency as the X-wing.

It still wouldn't get used, because the X-wing has a better dial / upgrades, and the X-wing jousting efficiency is already too low to begin with.

Where did you mention Test Pilot?

I get your point though.

I don't know, could've sworn I said that somewhere. Probably in a different Advanced thread. I'm beginning to lose track.
