I recently watched the one-hour ep and was also impressed. I like what they're doing with it - a proper Rebels group.
Anyone know when the next set of episodes is coming out?

Some time in fall, no specific day given out yet.
I like the show and am looking forward to more. I was not fan of TCW at first, but the show grew on me; Rebels I liked pretty much from the start.

Same for me. Rebels I liked from the get-go. TCW Season 1 I tried and stopped several times. It took a long while, but I'm finally 1/2 way through Season 2 and am finally liking it much more. But, my usual viewing partner is 5 years old and I'm more frequently having to turn it off or tell her to cover her eyes as the content gets darker and more adulter, the same reason I'm personally liking it more. ![]()
And its not like the clashes with the EU began with the Diseny takeover. TCW writers ignored the EU at will from season one.
As I understand it, it began before even then. Has 't the EU been know to clash with ITSELF? ![]()
Anyway, I like the approach taken. The material is still there so the good stuff can be elevated into canon and a mire careful job if integration can also be done second time around, both in details and tone.
Rarely.
KJA somehow decided the Executor was one of a kind despite Han saying otherwise in ROTJ but lots of author's ignored that.
The Black Fleet crisis claimed the NR scrapped the one SSD it captured (No SSDs had been shown being captured yet at the time) but that was later contradicted.
There are several versions of the Death Star Plans being captured that were later explained as the plans being obtained in pieces then combined later. Plus two versions of Ackbar being rescued from the Empire.
And of course the R-22 Spearhead and H-60 Tempest class fighters were invented because WEG stated that the A-Wing and B-Wing were developed after the Battle of Yavin despite the Droids cartoon which was released before any WEG material and set 15 years before the Battle of Yavin showing craft which appeared to be A-Wings and B-Wings.
NY Comic Con is getting early access to the first 2 episodes on October 8th. So it looks like it won't be officially premiering until after the start of October. Mid-October would put it at a similar point as Rebels Season 1.
But at least we get a brief bit of preview text about the next season:
Edited by LathropAs the second season of Star Wars Rebels opens, the crew of the Ghost is now considered a very real threat to the Empire and has caught the attention of Darth Vader himself. Undeterred, the rebels seek out old friends and add powerful allies to their cause, forming the beginnings of a more formidable alliance against the Empire. To stop them, Vader will dispatch new agents to hunt down their growing coalition, determined to snuff them out before they can ignite a galaxy to rebellion.

Season 2 returns October 14th.
So we've got:
* Fear the Walking Dead (just started and should be wrapping up around then)
* Doctor Who (October 19th)
* The Walking Dead Season 6 (October 11th)
* Ash vs the Evil Dead (Halloween)
And then Rebels. My October just got very, very busy. . . .
Edited by DesslokSeason 2 returns October 14th.

My guess as to the identity of Ahsoka's "friend"....Captain Rex.
Was just about to say "Ten creds that her "friend" is Rex" especially with the emphasis on -Trust Him- because who is Kanan likely to trust? A clone trooper is probably not too high from the freaking bottom of the list.
I have a fan-theory about Sabine. I suspect it's far from original and this is backed up entirely by nothing other than a guess, but I'll put it in spoilers anyway:
Mandalorian, resemblance in facial structure and name, I think she's either the niece or daughter of Duchess Satine. I even think there's a resemblance in personality traits.
Would be a nice gesture, however at one point people might ask who her father was but let's skip that OK?
Does this mean we'll be encountering Mandalorian Stormtroopers?

Im sure we may. However, I wouldnt expect them to be any different from any other stormtrooper. Remember that the empire seems to be training stormtroopers from a fairly young age.
For curiosity's sake, there is a mandalorian stormtrooper in the Dark Horse Legacy era legends comics.

I've thought this for a long time.
Her mother could be Bo-Katan. She names her daughter Sabine as an homage to her sister Satine. Wren is the name of whoever her partner is.
Unfortunately Filoni already stated that Sabine was no relation:
"But there really isn't a connection between Satine and Sabine. I found it amusing at the time when Simon [Kinberg], Greg [Weisman] and I were naming these characters. I was like, "Wow, Sabine... huh. I have a character that's named like that already!" So I kind of laughed at that, but it was good name, and we thought it fit the character, so we went with it. Then Pablo Hidalgo and I are always the ones that are like, "Aw, Clone Wars fans are going to think there's some relation here," but that's good. It's always good to wonder about what the connections are."

George Lucas threw the EU/RPG/Comics "canon" out the window with The Phantom Menace. He completely contradicted the way the Clone Wars happened.
I have no idea how the video games are supposed to be worked into the canon aside from being tacked on, so I can't comment (other than commenting that I can't comment
).

Why does every character need to be linked to some character in a different story? There are quadrillions of beings in the Star Wars galaxy, so, sharing some facial structures (which means an artist just drew her that way) wouldn't really link them together any better than two white people living in the US are directly linked to each other just by being white.

Actually as far as I know he never said anything about the Clone Wars before the PT other then that ObiWan was a general during them. Zahn assumed that the Clones were enemies of the Republic rather then serving it but that only came up a couple of times

Now, i don't mind if some characters are connected, the use of Ashoka is, i find, well done ao far. even the use of Other characters has been well done. Lando, Bail Organa, etc.
Ahh Admiral Ackbar was onscreen for more then a few seconds.
And I wouldn't be so sure that the A-Wing won't have the same lead designer it did in the EU. The fact its manufacturer has been changed to a company he is known to have worked for could easily mean that he is still the lead designer.

But it (the a-wing and b-wing) isn't being designed and manufactured by the alliance. As to ackbar, no he was onscreen to state a blatant situation, and to further the plot. Character wise, he is likely a competant leader of forces, but there is zero need to make him the personal house elf to Tarkin, brilliant shipwright, and tactical genius.
Just like the dude on Cloud city is not hiding rebellion secrets by stealing the computer memory core, he kust likes icecream.
Populate the universe with normal people and it makes the protagonists heroic. If everyone on screen or the heroes ever meet has done a dozen galaxy shaping things, you lose some of the magic. The old legends writers, many of them, fell into this trap by making every character onscreen do something "super". Toning that down, in my eyes, is a good thing.
As much as people complain changing things for the sake of change is heresy, harboring attachments, because thats how it was in the legends fiction, is equally egregious.
To quote the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy:
Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.
Having everything important done by an on screen character is like theatre performers dating each other. Everyone knows everyone and it is borderline incestuous. Spread the love around. Well.. The lore anyway.
<sarcasm>Right because it is utterly without historical precedent with someone to be both a skilled shipwright and a tactical genius.</sarcasm> Admittedly I'm slightly biased on that point though since many of my RPG characters end up combining the roles whether or not I planned for them to do so when I started them.
I do agree that having Ackbar be Tarkin's former slave was pointless though it could have worked better if we had gotten some stories about them facing each other in the field IMO.
And the B-Wing looks like it is being designed by the Resistance rather then the Alliance to me. If so it is still being designed by rebels its just a matter of how organized they were and what they were calling themselves at the time.
Edited by RogueCoronaYay! I'm all caught up with Rebels!
Now, do I want to go back and read through 47 pages worth of comments?
I think not.
The first season was so-so, imo. None of the episodes came close to the best Clone Wars episodes (which I haven't finished yet, almost done with season 4).
Season 2, on the other hand... if they are going to tell us what happened to Ahsoka, I'm going to give it two big thumbs up.
