[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Call to Action is up on WatchDisneyXD!

Leave it to Tarkin to suddenly show up and get **** done! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Also, I'm pretty sure we get to see what the "Mauler" described in Far Horizons looks like.

Haven't seen the new episode but I was under the impression the Mauler in FH was this thing from Clone Wars:

Also...

Have we seen this yet?

That's nice but I want what Lego is making for The Avengers. Later this year, weighing in at almost 3000 pieces and 2 feet long, Shield's Heli-carrier will be available in brick form.

If it weren't also probably $500.....

Not that I have room for it. There's a reason my Sci-fi "armory" is kept at my office instead of my Command Center at home.

The general price is about $0.10 per brick, which would make the Helicarrier about $300 - $350 depending on the licensing fees.

I looked online....$349.95 and coming out in March.

The Executor SSD from Lego cost me 400 bucks with about 3100 pieces. The Heli-Carrier is IP of the same company and has about the same amount of bricks. So i gues along 380-400 bucks.

So.. who of the heroes is going to die in the finale next week? Kanan seems very likely. Will it be more than one?

Well, then they never really died (except for those force ghosts of course...)

Prinze, Jr has said he is recording season 2, so it's not gonna be him, unless it's a ghost.

They aren't from the same company. LA licensed LEGO to make the products before they were absorbed by Disney. So, the terms of the license aren't going to be the same, heheh.

Well, it will definitely not be Sabine http://ikwiz.com/article.asp?id=9030&name=Female+Character+Name+Revealed+For+2016+Star+Wars+Standalone+Film%E2%80%A6+OMG%21

Wouldn't be the first time someone died only to turn up alive later.

If its not Sabine, and IMO an apparent death could be a very good set up for the character shift between Rebels and the movie, I hope its either Zeb or Chopper If its not Kanan, possible due to Force Ghost. While I would actually prefer that Ezra go down to any of the above I figure there is no real chance of that happening.

Watch it turns out to be Kallus or Inquisitor stripey face that eats it....

Unless you've heard something I haven't, it seems unlikely to be anybody. Too early in the story arc. People are still getting invested in the characters, I don't think the fan base is ready for a death. But yeah, Kanan eventually, and probably Hera.

If they wanted to tell a horror tale, it would be Hera first, it drives Kanan to the dark side, then Ezra watches him get struck down and goes a little nuts himself, slicing up all his friends and Chopper to boot. In the end the only person to make it away from the evil carnage is Sabine, who is emotionally scarred for life; and Zeb, who turns into an alcoholic bum living in a trash can like Oscar the Grouch. Ezra's fate is "unknown".

That's why Obiwan and Yoda turn to Luke...

Yeah Star Wars isn't supposed to be horror though. If they decide to make it a horror show I'll be furious. The two horror EU novels were bad enough.

You take that back! She's the best of the crew. But I'm a little biased.

I haven't heard anything, but considering a certain conversation Kanan and Ezra have and the last episode title of Rebel Resolve, I expect a character to die.

Read A New Dawn I guess?

I was kidding. Thinking of Zeb as the Grouch kind of set things in motion...

Yep. She's awesome. Plus I loved her in "Idiots Array"

Yeah, Hera's become one of my favorite characters on the show.

The only character of the Ghost's crew that I figure would have a high chance of getting killed would be Kanan, given he's playing the role of mentor to Ezra, and we know how mentor figures tend to wind up in Star Wars; i.e. being The Obi-Wan. Even though Freddie Prinze Jr. is recording dialogue for Season 2, that's no guarantee that Kanan's going to still be amongst the living. He could either show up as a Force ghost, or could have made recordings in that holocron he has so that Ezra has some means of instruction in his continuing journey to become a Jedi.

No chance of Ezra going, as he's the viewpoint character in a show aimed at a younger audience, so they're not going to axe the very character that much of the intended audience is likely to identify with. Sabine and Hera have pretty substantial popularity power going for them, so they're not likely either, but killing Hera would make for one heck of an audience punch; might lead to some of the early episodes of the second season being the Lothal Rebels having to come to terms with the fact that the Team Mom, who was pretty much the glue that holds the crew together, is gone. Killing Sabine would really serve to generate angst for Ezra, and he's get enough backstory with his dead parents and surviving on his own to cover the "angsty youngster" angle.

Chopper seems to be something of a creator's pet, so as much as I dislike the little trash bucket, he's probably going to be around for the show's entire run.

Zeb could be a strong candidate for the sacrificial lion, going down swinging and perhaps taking Agent Kallus down along with him. it would strike home that they are facing a war in doing what they're doing, and that being a strong warrior doesn't ensure you're going to survive it.

Well, after binge-watching the first 13 episodes i kinda like this show.

Granted, i am definitely not their target audiance since i find the usual Hero's Luck that saves them repeaditly simply boring.

But both sides seem to be bringing a bit more brains to the conflict, hopefully with some nice twists and turns for us viewers.

Yeah, with the developments of last episode, I'm hoping that the show moves away from the good guys always winning "I'll get you next time, He-Man!" kind of plots to more of a kid friendly Blake's 7, where sometimes the good guys win, sometimes the good guys lose and sometimes the good guys lose BIG.

So anyone that thought Disney wouldn't let Star Wars Rebels get as dark as The Clone Wars got at times?

Grand Moff Tarkin has proven otherwise, as the man does not mess around. His little bit to Kanan about "knowing what it takes to win a war." particularly since we know what he's going to do in about 4 years or so...

I think the show did a good job of that anyway. Only Agent Kallus really got anywhere close to the 80's villain syndrome, and most of the time the Rebels' victory was usually more of making a successful escape rather than really defeating him in a straight-up fight. The minister lady was really more of a flunky in terms of opposition, and Arasko and Grint were glorified flunkies from the word go. And it was only in this most recent episode was Kanan's fight with the Inquisitor not a one-sided fight in the Inquisitor's favor, and even that wasn't enough for Kanan to do more than hold his own for a bit longer.

Yes and no.

Star Wars has been around for nearly 40 years and more fans among the grown-ups than the kids so making a series to attract kids is a good idea. But it will also immediately attract the grown-ups too. TCW made a good stretch by keeping many things kids-friendly but also showing darker tones. Rebels IMO still seems to ponder how to do that stretch (or how dark it should go).

I don't mind when the heroes get away with their actions as long as it is not only due to incompetence of the bad guys.

Like Stormtroopers constantly missing (even from short range and/or open terrain),

or the shields of the Phantom absorbing more hits than the Gozanti Cruiser which it itself takes down with only a short salvo of laser-fire ...

I am willing to stretch my suspension of believe for some time but not forever.

Do not misunderstand. The Rebels are usually prepared with several plans for their quick getaway and do everything they can to not get tracked. Something i wish my players would do -.-
