[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Obi-wan lies about a lot of things however. He even said to Ezra that "it is not your place to be here", he's not one to muddy the waters, best keep Luke pure and focused. I think Ezra may survive but not remain with the rebellion, otherwise...

I just can't see the show ending like that, considering the age group it's primarily targeted at. We might see the end of the Rebel Jedi, but I doubt it'll be in this show. It's still a few years until Empire Strikes Back, after all. And then it'll be Kanan who dies, but not Ezra.

We'll see.

It's a big galaxy. (Of course, they had a scale fail again just by insisting that these Rebels had be so closely tied in with the rebels of the OT.)

That's got me feeling melancholy now. Not just because I hate to see good stories come to an end, but because it looks like everyone will die. I think Hera and Chopper will be the only ones left. Kanan can't survive, IMO, because otherwise Obi-Wan would know, and I fear that Sabine's story will end tragically. (Rau's voiceover of "Then we'll go down fighting" doesn't bode well for that arc).

They've also announced animated shorts focusing on the female characters of the entire franchise, including (as I recall) one with Hera and Zeb as part of the Endor team.

I doubt we'll see any main character deaths. Heck, Ahsoka is still a question-mark.

No, she's an exclamation mark :P

A friend of mine pointed out that in the teaser that was out before celebration the music was Ahsoka's theme.

So I was ahead of the t-shirt on that one! :P

So, apparently, the Noghri have been confirmed .

I know it doesn't match my cynical demeanor to say so, but I really do want Ahsoka to have lived. She went from annoying kid-sidekick to one of my favorite characters from TCW, crowned by having the **** guts and self-respect to walk away from the Jedi after they threw her under the bus.

Not exactly how I imagined them, but glad to see them here.

Funny enough a lot more like I imagined them and a lot less how the EU comics made them look. I never imagine them as bulky, but more slender to fit that ninja theme that was going on with their assassins.

I always thought of them as short and bulky, perhaps because the Thrawn trilogy talked about how compact and heavily muscled they were.

So the name of the Noghri is Rukh.

If anybody remembers, that's the Noghri that assassinated Thrawn.

Oh, I remember

But he had been loyal for years previously, so people thought there was no need to worry.

So, no Scarif:

I don’t think that would be right. It would be to hinge this series end on a battle we’ve already seen the outcome of in a feature film. It would be a little bit repetitious, anticlimactic. I think as an initial impulse it sounds great. But the more you think about it, you go hmmmm I don’t know, it would kind of taper your expectations and the tension would be cut quite a bit. I like our ending. And I love that battle. I think it would be neat to see that battle one day from the Ghost’s perspective because we know the Ghost is there, but we don’t know who is in the Ghost. So that’s kind of a good question that needs to be answered.

Also no Jedha:

Anythings possible in Star Wars storytelling, I’ve learned that lesson. Ever since we brought Darth Maul back, I learned that lesson. I think we have a certain specific task ahead of us and with respect to that film, we wanted things like Jedha to be very special for that movie when it came out. It’s a wonderful sandbox they’ve created over there but you know, it’s not something I could really play with in this series at this point. We have our own Jedi mysteries that we’ve been wrapping our head around on this show.

Director Krennik namedrop!

Project Stardust namedrop!

Rukh (probably)!

X-Wings!

Were those death troopers, from Dark Forces, or the black-clad troopers from Rogue One?

Nicely done trailer, I have to say.

Rogue One. Definitely Rogue One.

Yeah, those were the R1 style. Thrawn had them with him last year during the final battle. Looks like any really important Imperial can get some as bodyguards.

So, the writers have it as the Empire chooses Stardust over the Tie-Defender. I like it. Not an easy decision to make at that point in time. Both have strengths and weakness. One could make a strong case for either. In a way, the Rebels help push Stardust forward by making the Tie-Defender project fall apart. Makes one think. If the Rebels knew of Stardust at the same time as the Tie-Defender project, which one would they choose to stop?

And one more. We're getting close, people!

Looking forward to it. A lot of good plot lines that should be tied up leads me to think that this final season should be the best one. Filler episodes should be at a minimum.

As much as I would really enjoy seeing Ashoka in the last season, I doubt it will happen. The director has come out and said as much. Plus i would think her appearence would be too much of a distraction. The Ghost crew are "grown" now. The characters no longer need externial support to carry the show.

Though a mini series or a role in the possible live action series could happen.

I finally caught up on the first 4 episodes. So far I'm digging the season - four very strong episodes with no filler. Plus now we're getting ties to larger continuity, like hunting down why the Empire is weaponizing Kyber crystals and the like. I imagine with the reduced episode count and the climax of the show in site, we'll not get much in the way of fluff episodes with loads of downtime.

I would have preferred Hera being with the fleet rather then the ground team. IMO it suits her skills much better.

Wait they are saying that the Empire was at some point debating between the Death Star project and a superior TIE model? I love the TIE Defenders but how could anyone convince the Imperial leadership to choose them over a planet killer? Not to mention the fact the Stardust project has been in the works since long before the Defender sabotage.
