[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hot Take: Convors/Convorees are the Whills, or they are what the Whills use to observe & record history. They show up in a lot of important moments in both Clone Wars & Rebels.

Really loved the episode, best one yet of the second half of the season imho. I half expected Bendu to show up when Sabine walked away and kicked boulders...then he did but nothing happened. Sabine also has the Convors on her shoulder armour. Obviously there's a significance there for both symbols, I'm wondering what it would be.

From the technical/metaphysical side, I thought it was interesting when Kanan said something like "the Force flows through all living things, she's just blocked". It suggests that the ability to tap into the Force really is available to everyone, not just people with a special "Force Sensitive" gene switch. It's really about your emotional state, and willingness to accept it.

So my take on the Bendu appearing was perhaps him becoming aware of her new ability to connect. In game terms, maybe she just picked up Force Sensitive Exile...

Please not yet another force user. They are supposed to be rare. Yet, the original Ghost crew has picked up two in addition to the original force user?

I didn't take it to be that Sabine was force sensitive, just that much like Elvis , the Force is everywhere. You just have to learn to work in harmony with it, even if you don't harness it.

Perhaps, used to be rare? The Jedi are gone true, but not the ability to touch and manipulate the force. With Disney in control now, they may be changing things all around as they implied in Rogue One.

Probably not, and I kind of hope so too. It's clear that the writers are leaning very heavily on the quasi-mystical nature of the force, and working hard to establish that the force can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. Just because Sabine might not be able to lift crates with her brain doesn't mean she can't benefit mentally and emotionally from what Kanan has to teach her.

I hope not. I wasn't a big Clone Wars fan. I became a Rebels fan from the start because these new characters weren't a bunch of Jedi's with uber powers and uber resources as high-ranking officers of the Republic. The Rebels were just a rag tag band, or "party" of "PCs" with a mixture of backgrounds we could find in all three of FFG's core books. If Sabine goes force sensitive, the Force creep now has claimed half of my beloved PC party. :)

Which would actually follow a whole lot of PC party's out there. LOL :P

Yeah, I don't think Sabine's a secret Force-sensitive. The Bendu probably took notice of her due to his own sensitivity to the Force around him and that her very troubled mental state at the time was the equivalent of a car alarm going off at 2am in the morning from right next door. Her kicking him probably didn't help matters either.

It's nice to see a Sabine-centric episode, though it seemed Kanan wound up being less of a teacher and more of a therapist to help Sabine reach a breakthrough on her issues. That and it does seem they're putting the nail in the coffin about any possibility of a Sabine/Ezra romance, though I could be reading too much into it due to having read comments from Sabine's voice actress that there was no chance of such happening (much to shipper's lament I'm sure).

To be fair, I imagine perception on what is force senstive to vary slightly; orignally in the OT it was never expressly mentioned what precisely made one force sensitive, but rather the reason that Luke was the only hope was that he was the only one to come into contact with the proper training. The suggestion of Linage came later with midacholorians and the skywalker bloodline, but it doesn't mean that people can't touch the force but rather some people don't quite know HOW to do it. People don't believe that they can do it therefore they can't. That and force sensitives generally are more sensitive to emotions, whether or not the one expressing the emotion actually has force contact or not.

But rather think of it another way; what is the force? Is the force fate itself and thus the ability to manpulate the force make one fate benders? Hmm? Maybe in some people the force makes them fated to forefill a task which gives their actions especially significant weight to them?

And rebel's is a kids show, Sabine and Ezra won't ever show any romance right up until the closing credits. Though really Sabines always been the extra deck hand with a interest in art and a little bit of a bad history prior to this.

Anyone have any ideas when Rebels will be back on UK screens?? Cheers :)

Maybe in season 4 when Ezra's 18. XD

Well played Rebels, well played.

Just when Sabine becomes an interesting character, they write her off the Ghost crew. That's super disappointing & sad. This arc was some of the most emotionally impactful episodes in the series.

Give it a couple of episodes. I'm pretty sure they'll have her back in time for the season finale. Unless she gets her own spinoff (or film, if there's any truth to that rumor).

I doubt that'll be the last of her we see. She'll just be busy with Mandalorian stuff for a couple episodes and then rejoin the crew.

Looking at the synopses for the upcoming episodes, I'm not so sure she'll have room to come back. My bet would be that if she returns this season, it'll be in the finale. Wouldn't be too surprised if they're saving it for a big Mandalore arc coming up in Season 4, though.

Man, all this Madalorian stuff is absolute gold. I haven't cared about Rebels this much since the end of season 2.

Really enjoyed the arc, and the twist.

And the animation: the boot prints in the snow were a nice touch, but if you look closely, it looks like they actually altered the walk-cycle to deal with the mushy terrain. The feet don't plant, they settle.

On the flip side...though it was beautifully rendered, anybody else think the stronghold looked a little like the happy vampire haven in Twilight? ...

Unfortunately, I know what you mean with that last sentence. I wish I didn't. #liferegret

Also, the Mandalorian language seems to be canonized now, with Sabine speaking it & the characters appearing on a screen in the background, very faintly out of focus.

IF you remember, In AotC, Jango speaks to Boba a few lines of Mando'a when they first meet Obi Wan in their quarters on Kamino.

Huttese actually.

I disagree. It sounded like Mando'a to me, and both of them are Mandalorian, so it makes more sense that that would be what they're speaking in.

I'm only going to respond to this once as I don't want another thread to get out of hand and go off-topic.

It's Huttese. I believe it's mentioned in the AotC DVD commentary.
