[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?
Mary Sue is such a lazy accusation, because it can be applied to so many figures of popular fiction.
It's also lazy story-telling and a valid critique when it actually happens.

Then detail your criticisms as themselves -- instead of jumping up, pointing, and saying " Mary Sue !"... especially when it doesn't even apply to the situation at hand.
Edited by MaxKilljoySo... Why is no one talking about Thrawn's eye liner?
Is it because it's 2016?

The date (year) does not define maturity, nor is it a valid rebuttal. All it does is prove how far we've come, and how far we've yet to go.
It always bugged me when the Grand Admirals never got the epaulets - but that yellow band seems a solid compromise.

Could be that they thought they were too 'earthy' or something. Or it could be the general streamlining of design for animation.
This might sound weird, but I can't quite get over the Rebels version's eyes - so many depictions I've seen tend to depict him without irises, or if he does have irises they don't tend to be as defined as in the show version. It makes sense though as they need to show what he's looking at and help convey emotion.
I think there is a generous usage of the term Grey Jedi.
People keep trying to associate it with force users who use the force but aren't Jedi. Which doesn't make them Grey Jedi.
Second the galaxy is filled with at least a dozen known force traditions other than the Jedi. Many of which are not considered to be driven by the darkside.
The Jedi order is more of group of force wielders that teaches a specific philosophy of the force. One that only accepts moralistic choices for good and life and uses the lightside of the force.
Asako Tano still follows these same philosophies but she is not part of the order. This doesn't make her Grey or a Jedi.
In terms of Mary Sue
I really don't want to watch a movie or series that shows every moment of training that a new Jedi has to undergo. Nor do I want the mystery of the force to be lessened by someones arbitrary unofficial 'powers' charts and measurements spreadsheet. I personally am ok with the force being a cosmic power that can do what it wants, when it wants, why it wants, and how it wants. That's why I like the force, because it's not bound be empirical views that define its parameters.

There's also a precedent that's been set since way back in the OT that the light side is always more powerful and will always win in the end. Oftentimes in my opinion it seems those lightside users employ their emotions to win their duels but they maintain themselves with the light afterwards.
Luke vs Vader in RotJ. Vader is supposed to be 45 years old and Luke is 23. Vader has the benefit of decades of experience as a duelist, a higher knowledge of the force and should trump Luke's young, half-trained skills, yet Luke prevails.
Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul in TPM. Obi-Wan wasn't even a fully fledged Jedi Knight, he was a Padawan, yet he defeated a Sith Lord.
The newest instance would be Rey vs Kylo Ren. So she force pulls the saber to her hand... Luke did that in Empire before being trained. The mindtrick thing, idk maybe the force was acting through her or maybe she heard stories and Legends of Jedi doing that kind of thing.

She also just peeked into someone else's mind, saw his fear, and knew that he'd seen into her mind... it's not a stretch realising that looking into and planting suggestions is linked, somehow. At least that it's possible, or worth trying. Who knows. Does it matter?

I must have missed the part where someone was trying to have a debate.

I'm thinking that a fitting end for a certain Sith who won't die would be one last showdown with a certain Jedi...
Edited by MaxKilljoyMy favourite moment was what happened after the Stormtrooper asked the Agent, "First Jedi you've ever seen, sir?"
Hilarious!
It immediately make me believe that those stormtroopers were clone war veterans, which means they all survived the bridge 'accident' as clone troopers are fast enough with their grappling hooks.
I'm not sure how I feel about Thrawn losing control of his temper that way. It is definitely very different then the EU Thrawn who stayed cool and calm even when he was about to order someone to be executed for incompetence.

That little scene does seem odd, but I think it will probably fit when we see it in context. There is just nothing to go on when it comes to that clip of him grabbing the Officer.

The question is when we would you want that to happen in the season? Mid Season or in one of the last episodes of the season?

Probably done to make him less alien. Which is weird since he's an alien to start with, but then again just because we never saw Thrawn lose his cool in the books doesn't mean he never did; it could just have happened "off-camera" when our POV character of the moment wasn't in Thrawn's immediate presence.
Of course, we have no context of when that scene takes place, though I suspect it'd be somewhere in the first half of the season. For all we know, it could occur after a string of incidents where the Rebels manage to evade his cunning plots, and after the most recent incident he had a brief loss of self-control.
Thrawn never lost in the books, except the one time he does and dies. So he literally had no good change to rage at all anyway. In Rebels at the other hand he might lose a lot more often because the format of the series drives the narrative.
That and being a kids show, they want to see the villains get super frustrated when their latest evil scheme fails. Heheh
So.. The video is not availiable where I live, but I can get constant updates everywhere about Trump? You southerners need to get stuff sorted out..
Now if I can just buy the season pass on iTunes...

Hmmm... I'm not sure.
Depends on what sort of role they have in mind for DM. If he's a primary antagonist for the 3rd season, probably toward the very end. If he's a secondary antagonist, probably middle to late in the season arc.

It is necessary to return balance to the Force.
