[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Other things from the end of the season:

1) Love Maul obliquely referencing the Sith code -- which comes up quite often in SWTOR -- when pushing Ezra to use his emotions.

2) Ezra says "I'm not afraid of you." -- to which Vader replies "Then you will die braver than most." Heh.

3) Ahsoka shows that she's enough of a match for Vader that the fight could have gone either way.

4) Ahsoka lived. :P

Actually, we know she didn't win the fight as Vader is still alive and kicking for the movies. So, at best she fought him to a draw long enough that she then found a way to escape.

Ah, but I did not say that she did win, or that she might have won but we don't know... I said that she was good enough that she was capable of winning that fight based on what we saw. (That we know she didn't win because it's an intermingled timeline is a somewhat different and more "meta" discussion.)

I also like that mildly checky comment made to Ezra: Perhaps I was wrong.

Shows the guy has a sense of humour, even under that mask. XD

Revealed that season three is going to have more mandos.

I feel like season one was Edge of the Empire, season two was Age of Rebellion, and season three will be Force and Destiny.

(And that's probably been mentioned here before, but I wasn't going to sift through 91 pages...)

Little clickbaity as those character types are very archetypal by nature, which means that they eventually come up in stories and tales. But indeed the whole Rebels setup is very RPG-Group like, heck our own groups looks very close to that, we just have more guys and our wookie is a IG-Model gadgeteer who likes to beat up organics in general. ;-)

skip to about 3:40ish

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Ezra's new do, but, it is more functional than the mop.

Now that Ezra appears older, they don't seem to have a problem having him use a real blaster. Also, I like the new lightsaber.

He also cut down a trooper with his (green!) lightsaber and his facial expressions note a more prominent sense of anger.

Not surprising considering how season 2 ended. Good catch.

More Jim Cummings makes me happy.

Lighting also seems to have had an overhaul.

More Jim Cummings Don Carnage makes me happy.

Fixed!

Hold on to your hats.

Wow. I'm on board!

and a certain pilot... and dark troopers?

Wedge and especially Thrawn...and best of all Zahn writing the book! The master has returned.

Hope this leaves decent odds for old Zahn favs like Mara and Pallaeon to return.

Weeeee... yeah, not so much.

Thrawn is obscenely overrated and it looks like they're going to push Ezra's character into a 'grey Jedi' archetype. Season two improved on the more juvenile first season, but this... doesn't inspire confidence.

For those of us who don't actually know Thrawn however this is fantastic. Also I don't see how grey Ezra would be a bad thing..

I still without a doubt find the animated Star Wars better than any of the movies, and Rebels continues to confirm that for me.

If you don't know who Thrawn is, it's immaterial. But if you've already made up your mind from second-hand sources that you'll love the character, there's no discussion to be had here.

'Grey Jedi' is just more Mary Sue crap, and Ezra's character has more than enough that already.

I can't comprehend how you can think Rebels is better than the OT films, but there's no accounting for taste.

Canonizing quite a bit here:

Phase 2 Dark Troopers

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Wedge starting out as an Imperial pilot and defecting to the Rebellion

Blood Stripes on TIE Interceptors that hopefully means the 181st Squadron

More force mysteries to discover:

How the Jedi and Sith holocrons interact

What the "key" to defeating the Sith Ezra mentions is

Bendu and what he has to do with the force and what Kanan seems to be learning from him

The deal with the green force spirit possessing Kanan

Bringing back some fun stuff previously seen in Clone Wars and even Rebels:

Fenn Rau

B-1 Battle Droids

The Darksaber

Y-Wings

Rebels season 3 looks great.

My biggest gripe with Rebels so far was that the main cast had only problems when they have to deal with big shots like Tarkin, Vader and now Thrawn.
Not to belittle them but the Empire's servants are often portraied as so .. inefficience that i my suspension of disbelive simply brakes. They would not have survived so far along if (my feeling by the show so far) 90%+ of the imperial military/navy are incompetent bunglers.
Yes, i am happy that Thrawn is back and portrayed like in the books, but again such a big name is needed.
The rebels operate at the same level as several smugglers/pirate groups and the Empire usually knows how to deal with those.
So far i don't get the feeling that the heroes earn most their successes.
