All I could think with the Heli-Sabers was how much fun Sabine would have had with target practice. It only worked as the only blaster on the planet was with Ezra in the temple.
[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?
Well, if the force can animate the dead, make wounds close up miraculously or shoot lightning (heal/harm power in the RPG), why would the Heli-sabers be considered incredulous? It is just as ridiculous and outlandish as the above examples.

There's a certain dignity to those things which the lightcopter decidedly lacks. Necromancy and Force lightning is something you expect from an evil wizard, lightcopters are something I'd expect to see from Team Rocket.
They believe they can fly, so they will. Isn't that what star wars is all about?
That inquistor fell to his death because he believed that he couldn't fly without it. HIS LACK OF FAITH WAS DISTURBING.
That's cause Sith don't know how to cluck.
Better way to solve it. Two words.. wait.. 4 words for referance
Cad Bane Rocket boots
Or Inquisitors could have utility belts with grapple lines (like Luke from E. IV) or they might use something like ascension cables (Naboo guards from E. I) or they could hitch a ride from the female Inquisitor's flying droid, or they could have come on repulsor-scooters (Darth Maul from E. I), or...
OK, lots of ways that I would have accepted over the helicopter-sabers.
My thoughts on the heli-sabers...
When they first appeared I was going "Urrrgh" internally like most of you. My 10 year old daughter though (who I would argue is more of the target demographic than 90% of the commenters here) had no thought either way - she just accepted them. Ah, the open-mindedness of youth.
Open-mindedness because of a lack of context isn't a virtue--raise a child in isolation and he/she can be convinced that incest with an adult family member is a natural part of a loving family. That's the kind of open-mindedness that leads to the acceptance helicopter-sabers.

Melodramatic slippery-slope much?
Yeah. Not gonna lie, slippery slopes can be fun sometimes!

A Child's sense of wonder at a Star Wars tv show is now analogous to acceptance of incest.
I thought I'd seen it all on these forums, but sadly there's always someone able to prove me wrong.

Dude... Did you really have to go there?
Were there no non-insulting non-incest invoking ways to make your point?
Hey, incest is/was a part of Star Wars!
Maybe the place is just so suffused with Dark Side Energy that it allows that sort of thing.
I don't know... something... meh.
The repeated use of the "only 2" lines, was annoying and stupid. Yes, it would take at least 2 to get those doors open, provided that one wasn't strong enough to lift one followed by the next, but that doesn't mean that 6 or 12 or 100 couldn't move in as each door was lifted up in succession, depending on the room under each door. Same thing with the lifts. They had more room than for 2, so no reason other than bad writing for them to be limited to just 2 at a time.
The sabers as copters was another example of idiotic, lazy writing. There are tons of devices to deal with lifting a person up. Jetpacks, something equipped with a repulsorlift (like a swoopbike or even something that looked like the hoverboards from Back to the Future), etc...
As a device, Maul was an OK choice, but why do they keep bringing back the same characters over and over again. He was cut in half, then brought back with the legs of a robot, and now he's whole again... Cheapens death and makes any victory only ephemeral, and pointless for either side.
Nice continuation for Ezra of other things we've seen about his tempting the dark side (goes back to the creatures on the asteroid) and continues through this.
Maiming Canan was a bit cheap as plot devices go, but is more in line with what does happen when one keeps getting into fights with deadly weapons. The more often one gets into fights, the more likely it is that one will get hurt, in one way or another.
My thoughts on the heli-sabers...
I went Inquisi-coptors xD But yeah it was so silly. I could only say "I hate it so much" as i giggled because it was funny. xD
One Pseudo-Sciencing Heli-Sabers.
OK, how do lightsabers work? A common theory is they are a shaped plasma bottle.
Could Heli-sabers somehow alter the containment field to be a wing blade shape like a helicopter? Maybe.
Could Heli-sabers use heat generated by the plasma to provide additional lift? Maybe.
Heli-Sabers are no more far fetched than rocket boots, but surprisingly physics would make them easier to control if you got some kind of lift from them.
Here's video of modern a jet pack for comparison.

Single rotors cause problems with torque. That's why helicopters have a tail rotor to compensate for the induced torque from the main rotor. Other methods include multiple rotors that are counter-rotating (like the Chinook heavy-lift chopper, or the Russian KA-50/52 which puts the rotors on a coaxial layout).
i'm not really liking pseudo-sciencing things in SW... however...
in SW there are repulsorlift. We don't know how they work, so maybe a rotating saber could create a compensating field of yadda yadda wibbly wobbly stuff with same effect
or the repulsorlift are in the hilt
or even they could have a repulsor-jacket: suit is equipped with repulsor-thing magickabula and that will permit them to do high jump (1) and rotating lightsaber is just for compensating and stabilizing. Or also, there is something in the hilt that make it possible, but they like the rotating saber 'cause they lack sense of decency
In my campaign, i'd stick with "it's some special Inquisitor's equipment you don't know, can't access, have no idea how it works... but you can buy this rocket boot or repulsorlift belt at same price!" or if they insist a Piloting (Planetary) with some setback dice. Whatever. Is not important at the moment.
As for show, it's a crap idea. All the episode is awesome, with dark side/light side theme, epic, battle, Ahsoka vs Vader.
I don't like the idea of bringing back Maul (again!) while they could create a new villain, even some other fallen Jedi from TCW (does anyone forgot about Barriss Offee? and what about Asajj Ventress?)
But saber-copter is something silly... does'nt break the epic, and let them jump in the middle of the action while not breaking the "only 2"-theme of elevator, temple door, etc.; lso, they could have been here by force-jump or, way worse, flying with force move, so in the end the saber-copter is just a silly looking thing
however, is silly looking and they could have used a lot of better thing... X_X
(1) a true Jedi use Force Leap. Inquisitors are less than true (dark) Jedi, they are more like Dark Side Interns, so maybe they need some equipment to be at same level than true Jedi...
A mild spoiler of a book:
Asajj Ventress is dead, so unfortunately she can no longer be used as a Dark side villian. Unfortunately only Maul, Saviage, Ventress really fitted the mold of "experienced in sith magic,", the other two being dead means Maul really is the only choice.
One thing I am wondering about is that they never really cover where these inquistors come from, though then again personally I imagine the studeo wants them portrayed as only evil at the moment, only to present a story after their passing. That way there is no confusion or regret about them being villians. Personally, Barriss probably was made an inquistor.
The other thing is I don't think inquistors will be a main rival again; I think Hands of the Emperor would be a nice escalation, and somewhat appropriate considering Vaders battering and failure to retrieve the weapon, and maul's continued existence.
Very good season finale, I quite enjoyed it.
That said the helicopter lightsaber looks stupid (and I think that it's stupid), they could have used grappling guns or jetpacks or swoop bikes or airspeeders, even Cad Bane's rocket boots (arggg) would have been better.
The heli-saber is the perfect example of what happens when "wouldn't it be cool if?" is not followed by "how does that work?" and "what effect does that have on our setting?" in the writing room.

Sounds far to much like real science. I was trying to find some BS SW double-speak to explain a stupid idea. Heli-sabers are a silly. I'm all for jet-packs or a Fett style rocket packs. Real science has no place in the Laser-Sword and Sorcery epic that is Flash Gordon/Buck-Rogers ^h^h ****, I mean Star Wars.
Remember the first time you saw Star Wars and saw all this fantastic and unrealistic stuff and, rather than question and critique, you just sat in awe and accepted it for the space opera epic it was? :-) I miss those days.
I miss those days.
I never lost those days. Star Wars has always been Space Fantasy for me.

I never had those days. My brain has always had the "wait a minute, what?" reflex.

I agree. It's so easy to forget that Star Wars is a fantastic story told in a fantastic setting about fantastic people. It cannot be judged accurately when that is forgotten.
