[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Some people even think Maul might come back (Seems he's harder to kill than a Tardigrade) and get a beating.

I'd kinda love Maul to come back and teach Ezra some stuff.

After what Ahsoka did to the Inquisitors, I'd love to see a Maul vs Ahsoka fight (assuming that Maul's not a broken physical shell of his original and cyborg incarnations).

So....yeah you have to remove him, all of them really, from the story.

Or you could just tell a different story?

Maul is the Old Master with the Sith Holocron that Ezra meets.

What sith holocron? Which episode? I might have miss one

Dont know they can really, for what i understand Rebels is part of the new canon. So i think, i hope i am wrong, that they gotta reset everything to the there is only 3 jedi.

The universe consists of countless planets, and the rebellion itself is a gigantic organisation that we only really saw in it's fullest at the battle of Endor. Nothing is set on concrete until the story is published.

It's hardly like the main cast of the movie are on speaking terms with the crew, most of the time we only see little pips and it's very clear that though Organa's faction is heavily involved in the alliance at this time most of the support they provide is distant. Lose a ship here and there, jobs a good 'un. Other then that the rebel cell is fairly isolated. Their limited supplies is spoken about a lot during the first part of the second season, they lost their capital ship and two cruisers so it's quite apparent that this group in particular are fairly isolated, relying on go-betweeners to keep them stocked. Hence after the loss of alderaan, there's still plenty of room for them being left in the dark in time. Rebel cells rise and die all the time, but sometimes it's death just merely scatters the seeds thin across the galaxy for fresh fruit to take.

Personally I find exploring other parts of the universe. Personally as a fan of the other things in star wars, I found novels like lost stars more fun then Rebels nor any of the other passable writing's regarding main cast characters. Just I don't find the original trilogy takes well as a bible; there are too many holes and embleshments in it's passages to be taken word for word.

edit: and should be enjoyed for what it is, a slice of light hearted entertainment.

That it is canon doesn't mean it has to directly interact with the other story lines from the movies.

No, I mean that it's a big universe and the Skywalker Saga - while a important part of the universe - is in fact not EVERY part of the universe. There's no reason that Rebels cant run around and do important and rebely things on the other side of the galaxy.

Its the season finale and you can see Maul and the Holocron in the teasers for it along with a Green Cross Hilt lightsaber and Darth Vader riding a Tie Fighter.

I'll watch it on OnDemand if it doesn't turn out to be a trite "someone had to die" ending.

Maul is the Old Master with the Sith Holocron that Ezra meets.

Having seen the Ep trailer now, it's obvious.

Actually from a still I've seen it looks like Darth Maul is going to be young, healthy and with two legs again after this is over and Ezra is going to activate the Old Republic Death Weapon. (Knights of the Old Republic 2 is now canon)

If anybody is disappointed with that finale, please turn in your Star Wars Fan Membership card on your way out.

Seriously, that was fricking great.

The joy of opinions, not everyone has to have the same one and no one is wrong.

So does that mean you didn't like it? Curious why.

I choose to complain about those stupid helicopter lightsabers. Seriously, the Spinning Self-Dismemberment Functionality was bad enough, but now they're Mary freakin' Poppins? Oi vay.

Also, when Ahsoka pops off half of Vader’s helmet, the flesh underneath didn't look all that bad, did it? Eyebrows and everything!

Also, have some Season Three news:

Speaking to io9, Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni revealed that Sabine Wren, the artistic, demolitions expert Mandalorian is going to get a much more prominent role in season three.

“We are going to delve a bit more into things with the Mandalorians and Sabine’s story,” Filoni said. “Sabine’s story will grow greatly in importance in the third season and she kind of comes up to stand next to Ezra as far as being an important player on the show. And isn’t as much a supporting character which I think is a great transition for her as a character.”

Yeah the helicopter lightsabers just went from silly and irritating to totally idiotic with the flights. And don't anybody try and say it's the Force that makes them fly; when a damaged helicopter saber leads to a crash landing we can be pretty sure it's the stupid whirling energy blades that do the lifting. Yeesh.

After seeing the ill-fated Eighth Brother in action, I'm tempted to stat out the Terellian species.

At least the inquisitor falling to his death was funny. Mind you, I almost expected this:

Wile-E.-Coyote-holdign-sign-300x225.jpg

(Subtitle: Wile E Coyote, Super Genius falling to his doom with a "please help" sign)

I really enjoyed that. Pretty dark throughout and especially at the end, silly helicopter-sabres notwithstanding (apart from the "how does it work?", I am not a fan of "now they suddenly can do this when they never did it before"). Characters undergoing trials and tribulations changing, as they should be. Some of the episodes this season left me cold, but that was a nice finale.

And more Sabine in Season 3? Yeah! Or rather: Oya!

They really should've premiered the helicopter blades a while ago so we could get the guffawing and ridicule out of the way--I kept getting distracted by my compulsion to roll my eyes.

Other than that, holy **** that was even better than I was expecting. Plenty of twists I didn't see coming.

I had forgotten that this was the season finale. I actually watched it recorded rather than going directly to on demand to get it commercial free. I agree that the whirly helicopter lightsaber was a bit much, heck I never liked the whirl blade to begin with. I was disappointed with the Vader vs. Asoka fight. I wanted a resolution of sorts. I've really enjoyed the Vader cameos this season I imagine it's difficult to use him but not being able to really defeat him. He's the ultimate boogeyman.

My one big complaint, for the love of all that is holy, would you please get rid of Darth Maul. Having him keep showing up is just rediculous. If Maul can survive being cut in half they should have been able to give Qui-Gon an artificial heart. I always feel bringing Maul back is a Jump The Shark moment.

Jeez folks, didn't you watch Dumbo as a kid? The whirling blades were magic feathers. It was the lack of FAITH that let the Inquisitor fall. I found his lack of Faith, amusing.

Hmmm, that was before the Force Zombies Episode, right... but after the Lava Surfing in the movies?!

I really enjoyed it, for all it's flaws, it was pretty amazing stuff. It made me wanna game this weekend, all weekend, but we are not scheduled until the week after.

I'd love to see this team go and re-tell 1-3 using the 'What if Star Wars Episode 1 was good' plot lines.
