[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Dude... DUDE... I hope they haven't killed all the Geonosians! But moving an entire planet's population somewhere else seems like it would be tough.

I would say honorable is a more accurate description. Yes he did very bad things, but that doesn't necessarily preclude his eventual redemption, since the very core tenant of Star Wars is nobody is irredeemable, no matter how far you've gone.

For Kallus, I certainly see him as being Lawful Evil for the most part.

But if Darth Vader can find redemption after all the horrific crap he's done, then such a thing would be possible for anyone. Doesn't mean it has to be easy or even likely, but at least possible.

If anything, I could see Kallus doing a Heroic Sacrifice in the show's final season, perhaps illustrating that he's moved beyond the Imperial "the ends justify the means" approach.

It's actually similar to what IDW had Megatron of all beings is currently going through over in the Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye comic series, coming to terms with just how far he strayed from the young idealist he'd started out as and the atrocities committed in the name of the Decepticon cause. He might be wearing an Autobot symbol these days, but ol' Megs is still coming to grips with just what exactly that means, especially in a time where the war is officially over.

Dude... DUDE... I hope they haven't killed all the Geonosians! But moving an entire planet's population somewhere else seems like it would be tough.

In the new Marvel Darth Vader comics there was a story arc about the last Geonosian queen. It... did not end well.

That brings up a bigger problem though, Long arm of the Hutt has the characters go to Geonosis in the Empire-era and interact with them. The only problem is the Empire seems to have performed Exterminatus on the entire planet and blockaded it.

Anyone have a good substitute insectile race? Colloids, maybe?

Why not just use Imperial Loyalists and the Empire is terraforming Geonosis?

Nice idea, split the difference and have it be an Imperial-run mining colony. Terraforming projects seem more like a Rakata/Vong thing. The Empire has so much planetary real estate they're more than happy to blast it from space.

It's kinda interested they're going this route. It's literally the biggest war crime the Emipre's committed 100 Billion deaths, Alderaan was only 2 Billion in comparison. I do hope the story group is keeping FFG in the loop though. "You know that race from the Prequels? Ya, they don't exist any more, sorry."

There are ways around the seemingly complete death of the geonosians. Off world colony, or some Verpine squatters - we have stats for those.

Or maybe they’ve gone into hibernation, deep underground, far below where scanners can penetrate.

And thus many potential future horror arcs are left to gestate...

From a certain point of view, yes.

So what's the stone? A small piece of the giant kyber crystal at the heart of the Death Star?

I think that this the most likely explanation, the reason of course seems to be the lack of money for the show.

Well... there has to be a story and / or a reason to it... why else would they even mention it, leave alone setting it up there, when it could have been anywhere.

As Raithnor touched on, the new Vader comics (issue 4 specifically) brings up that Geonosis was sterilized, but doesn't go into the methods or exact reasons why.

I've read some speculations that it's an egg from the monster. But apparently it really is just a meteorite .

Agreed. They could have just made up some planet. Probably they are going to say the Empire wiped them out, and that will be the catalyst for Agent Kallus switching sides. It fits with the whole human supremacist Space-Nazi theme. I hate it, though; Geonosians were/are cool!

Interesting - apparently there was a moment cut for time at the end of the episode. While Zeb was getting welcomed back with a "we were worried about you!", how Kallus got rescued? A trader happened upon his signal and picked him up, because the Empire had expended its allotted time for searching for a missing general, and had moved on and left him for dead.

Really hammers home the "I'm so alone" moment at the end.

That would have really made for a more poignant ending.

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch the last several episodes ("on demand" -- Charter is good for that, at least).

"The Protector of Concord Dawn" - severely rushed, needed two episodes.

"Legends of the Lasat" - for cripe's sake, stop putting "impassible obstacles" in space fiction... you know where you're going, you go around the "imploded star cluster", space has three dimensions

"The Call" - I actually liked this episode, other than aforementioned wing removal... the "just a helmet in space" thing wasn't an issue until the very end, before that it was even mentioned that they were inside the atmosphere... as long as we ignore the question of how an asteroid that size retained an atmosphere...

"Homecoming" - loved the moment with Hera's accent returning... spent most of the episode anticipating that they'd send the escort cruiser crashing down in flames instead of the light carrier

"The Honorable Ones" - conflicting depictions of Kallus between this episode and earlier episodes. If this is where they were going with him all along, then the earlier depictions were not a great setup for this.

EDIT - also, noticed that the last two episodes of the season are called "Twilight of the Apprentice: Part I" and "Part 2". Given some of the trailer spots we've seen... not looking forward to what could happen to Ahsoka.

I figured Ahsoka would come to a bad end. She's too involved in the Rebellion to fade into obscurity, and a Vader/Ahsoka scene would be too good to not follow through with it.

That concern is what's largely caused my more-detached interest in the show... I can't get that into it knowing where The Obvious Narrative Tropes are going to take the character and that most pop-fiction writers seem inherently unable to avoid walking the same roads over and over and over again.

However it's not a given she wil die at the end of the season. Luke fought Vader once and lived.....Ahsoka might do the same, heck Vader could even let her go hoping she'll lead him to Obi-Wan, who he seems to be pretty obssessed with.

It's a man crush. He'll get over it.

????

Vader being obsessed with Obi Wan.

Now,let's get back to the Uturine Midichlorian Theory, shall we?

I'm not really concerned for Ahsoka. Never cared much for her character at the best of times. Although I do find it humorous when I see concern for her character and others. Especially when I have seen people state that apparently the entire crew needs to die before the events of the OT because according to the OT there were no more jedi and they were never mentioned and whatever other excuses. Like people these days don't know what a retcon is. They will live, they will die, they will fade into obscurity.

Wow the last episode sure has a lot of revelations. Kanan finds out that the Grand Inquisitor was a member of the Temple Guard and fought the Temple Guards. At the end of the battle, the GI knights Kanan which is awesome. Ahsoka finds out that Anakin has become Lord Vader and it hurt her deeply. Ezra is being called to the dark side and Kanan knows this. I believe I know who the mysterious Old Master is and that's Darth Maul.
