So either I am staggeringly lucky or there is something to what I say about her sounding old. If you can't tell, that's your business but plainly I was able to so there must be things about her voice that indicate that sort of age.

Actually your post gave her year of birth correctly, as 1967, so you just added it up wrongly.

And yes, I consider the fifties to be old and in your sixties you become a pensioner so the fifties kind of are the last stage before you become a senior citizen, really. When you turn 50, you become eligible for membership in AARP. I was poking fun at my wife, and got membership for her as one of her birthday “presents” last year. Then we discovered that the AARP discounts are some of the best you can get at many places, and it wasn’t such a joke anymore. I’m eligible next year, and I am conflicted over whether or not I also want to join.

There are days when I feel very old, like when I realize that my grandfather was younger than I am now, on the day I was born. And I always thought of him as nearly elderly. But then, I was just a kid, and what did I know? Looking back, I wonder sometimes why my grandparents didn’t haul off and whack me upside the head more than a few times, for all the respect I occasionally lacked for them.

Then there are days when I don’t feel old at all. I don’t take particularly good care of myself, but I frequently get mistaken for someone much younger, especially if my beard has been recently trimmed shorter. I’ve got a few grey hairs, and if you look closely, I’m starting to go slightly bald on the very top, but you have to look closer. My voice hasn’t changed materially since college, although I have gotten a bit more control over it, so I’ve got a wider range of sounds and timbres that I can generate.

Nancy Cartwright doesn’t sound like a 58 year old woman, which is why she does the voice of Bart Simpson (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Cartwright). I'm not the one mocking people or going out of their way to tell them I'm ignoring them. I posted something I found about the episode, I've had multiple people all leaping in to argue that it shouldn't bother me, that I need to adjust my expectations, that you can't tell how old someone is by their voice (despite the fact that I plainly did in this case) and just generally piling on to show how my opinion is invalid. People don't get to complain if each time someone does so, I defend my position and if someone really wants me to stop responding to their posts about what I think, the simple thing to do would be to stop making posts about what I think and how it is flawed. Trying to get the last word in with posts a lá 'you're wrong but your entitled to your opinion' is not actually dropping the argument, it's just trying to conclude it in one's favour. Posts such as yours which express incredulity that I'm still replying on this whilst actually doing that exact same thing themself - continuing to reply on it, are likewise not exactly free from hypocrisy. And ones that are basically directed at me to tell me I'm being ignored are inherently silly given they contradict themselves.

As I am the one whose position is being attacked here, there's really no way for it to be on me to drop the argument - as I've already pointed out - unless it's to concede I'm wrong and allow criticisms to stand. Which I wont do because the two things I'm defending are that it's perfectly valid to find an old voice and a young face not matching odd, which it is; and that it is possible to get a feel for someone's age from their voice - which again it plainly was because if it wasn't, this wouldn't have been jarring to me. You can argue whatever you personally think the case is with whether or not someone's voice reflects their age but without so much as looking up who played the part I guessed the actress to be within two years of what she actually is so regardless of your opinion on whether this is possible, the fact is that I did.

So either leave my comment to stand or find some other way to actually challenge it, but don't keep making posts about how you can't believe I'm still making posts - because every post I have made on this bar my first, has been a defence against criticism of what I think. You don't get to complain about someone defending themself against criticism, you only get to either carry on criticising or drop it. I second this. Also on the topic of voices I was also happy to hear Billy Dee Williams again, and was truly geeked out when I heard Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor. Then I discovered that most definitely was NOT Ian McDiarmid, and was extremely impressed with the kid that actually was doing the voice.

Perhaps it was the familiarity of the old lines, that I'm so used to the way Ben Burtt mixed Jones, but did Vader sound . . . 'off' somehow? I mean I could tell that it was James doing the lines, sure - but it didn't quite sound right to me somehow.

I don't think it has anything to do with the mix, it's just that he's older... there's a little less resonance in the voice, it's a little thinner. I'm sure most of that could be adjusted in the mix, but maybe Filoni is reluctant to interfer with Jones performance.

Indeed, they used him as pretty much the entire visual and vocal basis for the character. I've always been a big Witwer fan ever since he was in the BSG reboot, and now finding out he's a -huge- star wars fan just makes it even better.

Not only that, he's a big Star Wars role playing fan too! He's the guest on the latest Order 66 podcast, and it makes for some great listening as they discuss planning out a long term campaign.

I recently watched the one-hour ep and was also impressed. I like what they're doing with it - a proper Rebels group.

This upsets me greatly. Imo it's just laziness. I understand the need to ditch the stories of Luke, Han etc.. after the end of episode VI, but there's so much established lore there if the writers could be bothered to look it up.

The writers are looking it up. Legends is there for the writers to pick and choose, but they're no longer bound by it.

Now that's just not true.

People are quick to jump to that conclusion, but it simply isn't true.

They are free to use anything from the "old" EU, but they are not beholdant to it either.

So, in essence, they are "legends" (hence the name) in the Star Wars universe.

And you won't know for sure if they're true or not until they are either proven or disproven by canon.

And in this case, the legend was that kessel was an uneven rock with little to no atmosphere, but that has now been proven wrong.

And its not like the clashes with the EU began with the Diseny takeover. TCW writers ignored the EU at will from season one.
