Yeah and I really doubt that the rebels would stop to install the Shield generators at the rendezvous point. That would probably take a small shipyard, or at least more time the the rebels would wan to wait at the point
[SPOILERS]: Star Wars: Rebels - Thoughts?
As for the Emperor's reason of targeting Lothal, I'd be surprised if it didn't have some link to the Lothal Temple.
After all, Kanan was pretty surprised that Ezra received a kyber crystal, even remarking that "he didn't expect this."
Granted, I'll be disappointed if it turns out that Lothal's center is one massive kyber crystal and the Empire wants it for a superlaser focusing lens.
Then again, perhaps the Emperor foresaw that the Lothal Temple would be important in some manner, given that its tied to the Force, and may in fact be concealing a much deeper secret than just being an old Jedi training ground.
The Jedi temple on Lothal contains a hidden map. A map built into the very architecture of the temple itself. A map that leads to the ruins of an even older Jedi temple (or perhaps a Sith temple), abandoned for over a thousand years and now overrun by terentateks. And this Jedi temple contains a map to an alternate source for extremely large khyber crystals.
Just a thought.
As for the Emperor's reason of targeting Lothal, I'd be surprised if it didn't have some link to the Lothal Temple.
I'm not sure Chekhov's gun really applies to something that was THE central plot point for an entire pivotal episode.

For one episode, no... For the larger series, it may.
It's called a voice body mismatch. You see someone like Tay Zonday and you don't expect to hear such a deep voice come from such a small body. Same thing with the administrator. You think she looks young, but sounds old. Also, the animators aren't going for realistic renderings and don't seem to do much with creating age lines and such, so you see a smooth face (which is just really very low polys for faster rendering/surfacing) and assume young person.Or you just need to realize that your expectations don't always match with reality... for example:It was an exceptionally good episode, I couldn't fault it. They managed to make Vader scary again, which they've done well with.
Also, RIP Tua - I actually kind of liked you, and it would have been interesting to see her join the Rebels.
I liked the character but the way her voice jarred with her look always bothered me. The character design looks quite youthful whilst the voice is clearly old, verging on elderly. I would be fine with either so long as they matched. (though I think the old version would be more pitiable and moving ultimately).
I must be missing something here because I don't get what the video is supposed to mean at all. You think the guy in it shouldn't sound like that based on how he looks? Why not? Anyway, as to expectations and reality, I don't think you have understood. I don't expect the character to be young OR old, I just find it jarring that the two are giving me conflicting information. I've just looked the voice actress up and she's apparently 55 years old. Yet the governor's face looks like she's in her twenties. They don't fit together.
Actually, I don't know who that guy is and I had never heard the song before. And whilst I did have a reaction when he broke into song (horror at how awful it was), I didn't feel any surprise at his voice's pitch. I've never noticed any particular correlation between someone's height and their voice. Narrowness of body, perhaps, but this guy isn't especially narrow that I noticed.
Is being short something that is associated with a high voice? Is that a thing?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQsg6XXGxXQ
I've never noticed such a correlation and I didn't know anyone thought that. There are many pretty big and famous guys with high voices for example.
In contrast however, age of voice is something you CAN tell. If someone is fifty years old, their voice sounds it. That's pretty reliable. You will never find someone who looks as young as Tua looks that sounds that old. They are out and out conflicting signals and I don't know why you either have a problem with me finding that jarring and tell me I need to adjust my expectations, or why you think you get fifty year old voices on people who look twenty because in all my life I've never encountered that and I don't believe you have either. The quaver in an old woman's voice is not something younger people have. Do you know anyone that does? If not, kindly stop telling me I need to change how I think.

Kathie Soucie was the voice of Tua.
Regardless, if you doon't like her voice, you don't like her voice.

Never said I dislike her voice. Nor do I dislike the character design. I find it jarring that the character looks young but has an unmistakeably old voice.

So, 48 is old? Kath Soucie was born in 1967, myself, born in 1977 can look younger than my age - if I shave my graying beard. With proper diet and exercise, one can look quite younger than they actually are. Avoid excessive sun as well will take years off how you look.

However, in my own personal experiences of my near 44 years, I have know several people who you would swear are not who you heard speak. Most sound much older than they are (which several factors can contribute too such as excessine smoking, sickness, high stress, etc to name a few). Though one woman I went to school with still has to have other people make certain calls for her as she still sounds 12.
Anyway, I personally had no problem suspending my disbelief with Tua's voice actress. Tua, to me, seemed to be in her 30's or so (early 30's) but we don't know what life experiences may have influenced her, whether her more matured voice is hereditary, or any number of factors.
Now if she were saying things like "Them dogone whippersnappers!" and such, I would have an issue... LOL

You can't add up. Born in Feb, 1967 makes her 48. At that point a voice is noticeably older than someone in their twenties or mid-thirties. Actress bio here, btw.

There are no signs of such age in the character design of governor Tua. And I have to say, the amount that some people seem to have a problem with my brief comment about the visual age and audible age jarring with me and insisting I shouldn't notice it or consider it, is really starting to verge on the absurd. I heard her voice and thought she sounds like she's fifty. Later, on looking up the actress following objections to my post here telling me the problem was my expectations, it turns out I'm right. She is around fifty. The character has no signs of age and actually looks quite youthful. You can say what you like about taking care of your body but whilst I've often seen fifty year olds who were healthy and in-shape, I've never seen one I would mistake for someone in their thirties, and nor have you.
Edited by knasserIIFair enough, however the point stays the same. You are entitled to your views on the show. The percieved age of her voice is jarring to you. Well that's all fine, but people are telling me the problem is me needing to adjust my expectations and determined to prove I'm wrong. Turns out I got her age from her voice pretty spot on (I was within two years) and THIS does not look like someone over forty in any way:
so people determined to prove I'm wrong can just deal with it because I'm not.
Nope, problem's not you. The problem is everyone sees things from a different perspective than the next and often forget that the other person is entitled to their opinion. I was just sharing some of my experiences with people and voices as a topic of ongoing conversation, not an attempt to prove anyone wrong as mine obviously differ from yours. If that is how it was taken, I apologize for the confusion. It was NOT how it was intended.
Like I said earlier, you found the difference jarring to you. 'Nuff said. Hopefully there won't many more situation like that for you (or anyone) in future episodes. I, for one, am looking forward to another several season animated series.
Either way, enjoy.
It was an entertaining episode, sanse the few logical holes.
Maybe i'll continue to watch season 2, but i am still a but unsure. That plot-armour is getting on my nerves, or maybe i just read too much ASOIAF.
The Empire managed to look almost competent and menancing for the most part, but i fear that will stop very soon.
Edit:
As for voices: i work in a call center. I, at over 30 years of age, 200 pound, 6 feet tall male get more often that i care mistaken for a young woman around 20 years old. Voices match most of the times the bodies of their owner, but not always.
Edited by segara82Actually, I found a refreshing lack of plot armour in the latest episode, personally. It's perhaps easy to think that because the main characters lived that they 'won'. But Vader dealt the nascent rebellion a crippling blow. He destroyed their base of operations with their command forced to abandon their main ship, turned a sympathetic planet against them and sent the main heroes running for their lives. The exchange between Ezra and Kanan summed it up perfectly: "Fight? Ezra - we were lucky to survive!" I don't think they even got to keep their shield generators.
The rebels had the floor wiped with them in this episode.
Whether or not that will continue, I agree is an unknown. I'm guessing that Vader will drop into tone background again for the most part which allows the rebels to have victories without it seeming like plot armour because they wont be going up against impossible odds each time. So long as they're picking their battles, they can survive and succeed without it seeming unrealistic. I kind of want Ahsoka to be less prominent again, though. She feels a bit GM PC if she's with the rebels.
Well, it finally became available on iTunes Canada...brilliant episode. I have no quibbles, just enjoyed the ride.
I like the ending...how clearly the Emperor and Vader view the Inquisitors as expendable, like hunting dogs. Let them pick up the scent, start baying, then ride in for the kill.
Going to add one more note about Vader's effectiveness. Why does he go in alone against the Rebel fleet? It actually works very nicely in his favour and must be deliberate. If a fleet of star destroyers appear the Rebel fleet is going to do one thing - run. But what actually happens is a single fighter appears and Commander Sato sends out his squadron to deal with it. From his point of view this is an entirely sensible thing to do. When he remarks "How can one fighter best our entire squadron?" that's because what is happening is something so stunningly improbable to him that it made no sense to plan for it. Vader knows he can take on an entire squadron, get through their screen and disable the hyperdrive on their flagship. No-one else would expect this to happen.
The result is that Vader catches them by surprise with a surgical strike that pins them in place. When the star destroyers do show up, they have a strong tactical advantage and all the rebels can do is abandon ship.
Vader is ahead of them nearly every step of the way. He failed to kill Ezra which he's probably not happy about and due to Hera's stunt of playing the tractor beam off against him, they got away. But as failures go, Vader has overall had a pretty successful one.
Another thing I noticed, is that from his conversation with the Emperor at the end, it's not Ahsoka he wants, it's Obi-Wan. He thinks Ahsoka might lead him to Obi-Wan. The Emperor's non-committal "perhaps" sounds very much like the Emperor doesn't really want Vader having free reign to go off after personal vendettas. From Vader's point of view, Obi-Wan is the one responsible for the death of Padmé. The Emperor knows he has Anakin Skywalker only by a certain leash and that this leash could one day snap. Vader getting scent of Obi Wan could, counter-intuitively, weaken Palpatine's hold over him. Anakin's anger, grief and frustrated lack of closure over Padmé's death - these are tools the emperor uses to manipulate Anakin. But the last thing he wants is for his most valuable asset to go tearing up the galaxy out of control because he finally has a chance at satisfaction. Nor does he want to be the thing that gets between Anakin and Obi-Wan because that would just turn him against him.
But you can practically hear the hunger in Vader's voice when he says Obi-Wan. Ahsoka is actually just a means to that - his first potential lead in a long while.
Edited by knasserIIRegarding the "sound your age" schtick Knassler has been beating people over the head with I can only shrug and wonder where it is he lives... My colleague is 40 and she sounds like one of the chipmunks whereas our new intern is 21 and sounds like Barry White after a night or three of thinking and spending the rest of hirs time in a sigarc club... Dude, sounds like a grand father.
Yes. Watched the Seige of Lothal last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Vader turned out to not be the atom bomb I thought he might be. But still vergy effective at showcasing his awesomeness. Both his piloting skill and Force/lightsaber skills. Iwas entertained for the entire episode.

I like that he wasn't an "atom bomb" in that it's more believable if he isn't cartoonishly unstoppable. The fact that Ezra and Kanan were able to knock him back into Sabine and Zeb's explosion makes him human. Which makes it actually more meaningful and thus scarier when he gets back up.
I also like that what the Jedi sense isn't just anger, but fear as well. It suggests all sorts of things about how Anakin truly feels.
Edited by knasserII
I imagine that Anakin/Vader has a lot of unhealthy emotions that he's tapped into. Fear, anger, self-loathing, jealousy. Full-spectrum Dark Side.
Anger at the Jedi for betraying the Republic, the Emperor for betraying his trust.
Self-loathing for what he has done, for killing children, for killing Jedi, all the evil that he's done, even if he believes it to be necessary.
Fear of what he has done, what he is capable of, what he can do -
will
do, again.
Jealousy of everyone who hasn't lost everything and those who can keep their faith in the face of an uncaring galaxy ruled by a tyrannical, despotic empire.
If you want to get into Vader's head, I recommend reading Lords of the Sith. It's a decent story but you get a healthy perspective of Darth Vader.
Sorry fixed my post. The age I posted was wrong, as the first info I found on Kath Soucie, before I checked IMDb, listed her age incorrectly I still maintain that 48 isn't old per se. She doesn't sound old to me.

Are we STILL critiquing whether or not I'm wrong to find the discrepancy jarring or not? Well I had no idea who the actress was but accurately guessed her age to within two years without even looking her up or seeing her picture. So either I am staggeringly lucky or there is something to what I say about her sounding old. If you can't tell, that's your business but plainly I was able to so there must be things about her voice that indicate that sort of age.
