1 x tie advanced Darth Vader w/ swarm tactics
Howlrunner
1x academy pilot
3 x obsidian squad pilots.

How do you intend to fly it? I think I'd also try going for all the same type when it comes to generic TIEs. You could drop the Obsidians all down to Academies and use two points to put Swarm Tactic on Howlrunner as well giving you two shots at 9 and two at 8 or possibly three at 9.
If I'm really honest I might drop most of the upgrades and put an Engine Upgrade on Vader then use him as a flanker. There may be better ships for it but it gives your opponent the choice between going after Vader or going after the mini-swarm. While the remaining point could be used in an initiative bid you may also consider Adrenaline Rush on Vader or Determination on him or Howlrunner.
The first tie-swarm to ever hit a GenCon X-Wing Tournament was a squad build with Darth Vader and Academy Pilots. Classic build here (the only exception being the Obsidian Pilots and Howlrunner)! However, I must say that those kinds of builds are the only ones that ever make it to the final round in GenCon tournaments (and then epically lose to B-Wing swarms plus Biggs). But of course, this doesn't have to apply to you!
I really like Darth as a pilot because he doesn't need the PTL upgrade (he already has it!). Just include either more meatier pilots (Slave-1 or Lambada Shuttles), or more swarmish pilots (or a little bit of both). It seems to be the real way to go for Imperial builds. But that's just a Rebel player's perspective. LOL!!!
I really like
Black squadron + Predator x 5
Winged Gundark
=100 Points
No formation flying, no bumping because you tried to keep your guys tight.
With a focus and a predator reroll, i find i almost always get 2 hits.

Very Wave I, but this is one of my favorite lists ever.
Would you be willing to drop the Obsidians to AP and bring in Dark Curse or Nightbeast?
I don't know what PS3 does for you, except help dodge Predator. PS1 is better for blocking and the named ties have some sweet powers.

Flew this list tonight and am going to give it another go soon:
Vader: Outmaneuver, Engine Upgrade, Proton Rockets
Howlrunner, Backstabber, 2xObsidians
I use Vader and Backstabber as flankers (on opposite sides) and Howl runs with the Obsidians up the middle. Vader with the Outmaneuver and Proton Rockets is a very big threat and makes up for his biggest weakness (2 attack dice) who can also turtle with no penalty.
