By Flyingbrick, in X-Wing

Ok i posted this list some time back before the current meta was really started as we know it and i couldn't resist reposting it to see what everyone thinks of it vs the larger ships and current imp. ships.

2x gold squad with ion turrents

2x dagger pilots with ion cannons.

Thanks :)

I like flying this list, but it's a hard list to make work for you. You're dealing with only four defense dice, and even though you're really tanky you will succumb to concentrated fire.

Played against a list like this at regionals... got a modified win against my six ship rebel swarm by 3 points...

Anyway, not quite what he played, but kind of a redesign of what you've got here inspired by him. He played a double Y double Hawk list, all with ion turrets and three had stress upgrades. If I were you, I'd demote the B-wings to blue Squadrons, drop the ions on them to give both of them Tacticians and push up your damage, give one of them Fire Control System, and give one of the Y-wings R3-A2. Then, you are more rewarded for Focus Fire. Dealing one damage to each of four ships while Ionizing them can annoy your opponent, but winning the attrition will be an uphill battle. All four ships shooting the same with Ion weapons deals damage, but those extra Ion tokens are wasted The new list is a little more complicated, but you can ionize, stress or double stress, and still damage your targets severely. And, they are stress locked, so you can walk them toward the edge or kill them before they get there.

Hey ty for the pointers.

I'd love to face this list I'd slip into your six and stay there the rest of the match.

You've got four sluggish craft that can't easily cover each other your easy meat for imperials of all flavours.

roger that

was kindof hopeing some of the ion would negate some of the lack of mobility "if" they hit but that's hopeing the dice roll correctly. lol

you know this kind of has me wanting to try it on imps just to see how it works out.I take this as a challenge of sorts.

I would drop the ion cannons and go with advanced sensors on the daggers.

Y-Wings with R2 Astromechs are quite maneuverable bricks.

B-wings have a 2 K-turn, couple that with advanced sensors, that's a ship you don't want to be on the 6 of

Y-wings with turrets don't have a 6......

As for the Op's list, 4 ions is probably over kill, Id put advanced sensors on the B's instead of the ions.

The two ion turrets should be all you need.

As some other people said, I would drop the ICs off Dagger squadrons and get Advanced sensors.

Ties have a longer k and will still be behind you, then next turn your doing a very short green so I'll still be there but with that extra dice for being range one.

Heck defenders want you to k turn they don't lose an action you do.

Good ideas on the R 2 units and the Advanced sensors. I do have to agree the 4 ions are a tad overkill after looking at it and was pointed out. Aside from these improvements the only thing i could really see as an issue would be the low ps but at that point i am hopeing its comes down to a little dice rolling.

True but if the ions do hit your still dead in the water so to speak.

Greedyfly i think your right, it is an easy list to overlook due to no real flashy named pilots or any shiny gadgets other than the ions and advanced sensors. This is what i like about it, it is deceptive. I haven't

had the chance to fly it yet but do wonder how it will do against phantoms and things like that?

Your original squad is REALLY close to one of my all-time favorite builds, which tastetherainbow already pointed out:

2x Gold Squadron Pilot

-Ion Cannon Turret

2x Dagger Squadron Pilot

-Advanced Sensors

Each ship has the same insane tankiness, and while you lose half your ion ability, you gain the awesome advanced sensors on daggers that is ever so popular because it is ever so effective

Change one of your Golds into Roark and give the other R3-A2 and your Phantom worries are over. Bump the gold up to PS12, and stress the phantom even if you miss and disable his Adv. Cloaking device (and when you hit he is completely dead in the water for a turn).

I've flown this for a while and had some modest succes with it;

2x Blue, AS

Gold, ICT, R3A2

Roark, ICT

99pts

With 2 ICT's your list will suffer against high HP lists though. I also tried swapping a Y for a X with R3A2 to increase firepower, but that makes Roark a huge linchpin versus highly mobile squads. Maybe swapping the AS for FCS will help with the high HP lists, but I've never tried that.

Seconded!

It's simple, its effective, and it's a hoot to fly.

One of my favourite lists.

Plus you get to call it Golden Daggers, gotta be worth it just for that

Just me, but I would've called this list the YuB YuB list.
