Green dice...
Moving a blank result to a focus result makes defense better--but only if you have a focus token. That would make upgrades like Recon Specialist better, as well as granting a comparatively greater advantage to ships with lots of green dice. It might also push the game as a whole a bit more toward a defensive mode, which would have lots of potential consequences.
So it's probably not completely busted as a house rule, but for me it falls into the box of "if it's not broke..."

The magic 8 ball says.... ships would be slightly more durable, and games would take longer! ![]()
I calculate ship expected damage output and durability assuming that the attacker has focus 75% of the time, and the defender has focus 50% of the time. Obviously using those assumptions, the defender would be slightly more durable. It's not really clear if the game would be unbalanced or not. It would be easy enough for me to tweak my scripts to find out how it how it would affect the durability coefficients for each agility value, and by extension the jousting values.
But it is purely a theoretical question unless you are thinking of designing your own game.

I'd foresee a drastic increase in unfinished games in competitive play.

Swarms are soooooo wave 3.
If both dice were equal (which probably isn't a good idea), then one green blank would have to become some kind of uber evade to be comparable to the crit for red dice.
Maybe it would be used to cancel a crit first?
So your attacker rolls blank/hit/crit, and you roll blank/evade/uber evade. You would cancel the crit and one hit and take one normal damage.
I like the way it is with the green dice being less reliable than the reds. It force you to avoid being shot at at all cost. Think of them more as a safety net if your maneuver fail to avoid being shot at in the first place.... a loose safety net....
