Had some fun with this 3x Interceptor list

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

I played a nice game of X-wing last night with a fairly decent opponent, and I had some fun with the following list:

Soontir Fel

-Royal Guard TIE

-Push The Limit

-Targeting Computer

-Shield Upgrade

Carnor Jax

-Royal Guard TIE

-Push The Limit

-Targeting Computer

-Stealth Device

Turr Phennir

-Push The Limit

-Targeting Computer

It's not the most competative thing out there, but having three ships which work well together as well as independently was wonderful. I kept Turr to the side while attacking with Soontir and Carnor in a 2-ship element, then brought in Turr later when the other two were more damaged. Targeting computer plus PTL is AWESOME in a TIE Interceptor. The excellent maneuver dial ensured I kept the ships in front of me, and PTL+TC gave me the ability to focus+target lock nearly every time. Plus, Soontir loves to be stressed, so I was also able to boost and barrel roll to get pilots in my sights with him.

High risk, high reward. I love it. I don't have much practice with Carnor Jax but the other two are assassins for sure. They can fly past, flank, and arc dodge like nobody's business but they've got enough muscle to take on a Falcon, even a fat one.

Jump into range 1 with all 3 and focus/lock with them all. You'll be tossing 12 of the highest quality dice at the opponent and they'll only get 4 back on you and the best they can hope for is a re-roll from Han. 3PO can only do his magic once per turn, so overwhelming him with quality dice is the key. He shouldn't last 2 turns of firing, 3 tops.

I can't extoll the virtues of the elite squint jocks enough.

Winterceptors are coming!

I love my 3 aces. They can dodge duck dip dive and dodge with the best of them, have the firepower to down tougher targets and you're always dancing on a razor's edge. It's a blast.

Yeah, this was really fun to fly. :D Carnor Jax's ability was SO HANDY, too! I got him in close many, many times and kept the enemy fighters from using their focus and evades (I was flying against X-wings and A-wings). I'm going to try this list again and see how well it performs against more serious opponents.

I ran a similar list to try killing HLC Dash.

Fel // Push the Limit / Stealth Device / Targeting computer / Royal Guard

Jax // Push the Limit / Stealth Device

Phennir // Veteran Instincts / Stealth Device

That's 96 points for the initiative bid, but you can drop two more targeting computers on the interceptors to bring it to 100.

The reason I equipped my Phennir differently is because his ability essentially gives you the hyper mobility you're getting out of a PTL combo anyway, and Veteran Instincts on him brings him from a 7 to a 9 to move and shoot with the other PS9s. All you need to do is line up any kind of shoot and then you get your second movement. You're loosing that second action but as long as you use Phennir with the intention of getting that second movement in during the combat phase, he could be very effective.

Also Stealth Devices use 4 agility for when these fighters ARE getting shot at, and they're cheaper.

I prefer jax with hull + shield, because he is more of a turtling brawler that way, so you can get the most out of his pilot ability.

It is a lot of fun to play, but it can be really painful when the dice gods abandon you.

If they can dodge a wrench they can dodge a ball!

Squints are my favorite. If only you could fit 4 reliably in a list you'd be all set - (yeah I know you can throw 4 RGP's and PTL for 100 points) It would be nice to use the named pilots more often. Epic play ensures you can run a pretty boss Interceptor list..

Squints live and die by being out of arc of whatever they're attacking. I feel that's the most effective use for them... since you can't count on the green dice protecting your ships. Learned the hard way going basically 0-3 with a TIE Swarm in one of the Imdaar events.
