And yet at some point I figure we might as be like other fan groups and simply decide what makes up our own version of the canon regardless of what some executive says. It all good as long as you enjoy it isn't it?
OT: An observation to make you feel old
The next person who mentions the Jedi Droid as a "reason" why the EU is bad will get perma-ignored by me. No matter how hard you try to say that was a reason, THE JEDI DROID STORY WAS NON-CANON FROM THE BEGINNING!!!! IT WASNT EVEN EVER A PART OF THE EU, SO STOP TALKING LIKE IT WAS!!!!!!! Read this if you don't believe me: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_Tales
The "Star Wars Tales" comic series is an Infinities series and thus was not canon. So unless you know what you're talking about, just move along and don't shoot your mouth off, ok??
Sorry about the angry tirade, but it's been a really bad day.
My head-canon disagrees with your opinion-truths.
Most people don't really know or care about the EU, so the fact that it's gone is irrelevant.
Alas it's pretty obvious that DIsney aren't going to make a load of 60 year olds the main Stars of a new series of movies, so it looks pretty much certain that Luke, Han and co are all going to be either side lined or killed off ![]()
They really should have recast with younger actors (like Star Trek) Or moved further on.

Or never made a new trilogy.......
There is no lore to screw. EU lore is gone.
Just because some suits with to much money says something is gone does not make it so
What's funny about the suits statement is that most of EU was created by other "suits" trying to cash in on the Star Wars franchise. Toss a couple artists and writers together and *poof* we have another weak EU story. Quantity over quality. Sorry, I had to comment after seeing the "suit" theory a few times on other boards.

Not the head-cannon! Those things hurt like crap!
Oh wait...head CANON. Never mind.
I've read a lot of novels and comics, played a lot of games, and own almost every piece of RPG material up to and including Saga Edition, the vast majority of which belongs to the EU, not Infinities. For the most part, I have enjoyed it. But I will admit that there have been a lot of inconsistencies in the EU, and parts that I just thought plain sucked. I hate to see the EU discontinued, but its not gone. For those who do not wish to embrace the new, there is enough old EU to last **** near a life time. Being that, a part of me is glad to see the reboot. Now we will have a whole new time line with all new Star Wars material to indulge in. And who knows, but maybe the new EU will be way better then the original. Doubt it, but you never know. I just hope they do a better job with the consistancy this time and weeding out the crap. However, with Jar Jar still a part of the canon, its hard to have faith. All I know, is if they had scrapped the prequel trilogy along with the EU, I would be a lot happier about it.
I hope that Mark keeps that look in his eyes during the movie, it's the look of sorrowful understanding compassion. I like it!
I am pumped for a new trilogy .. I am double pumped that Mr. Lucas has no fingers in the pie .. and triple pumped that they dumped the EU.
It gives the writers/director a fresh slate to make an amazing new story .. instead of re-hashing existing stories. I am honestly tired of movie companies remaking current stories. Conan, Total Recall, District B13, every second Japanese film, how many Spiderman movies do we have now, blah blah blah.
I understand there are a limited number of stories archetypes and no doubt, Ep VII will follow a 'heroes journey' path .. but a fresh story within the confines of this formula would be much more preferable to a screen version of an existing tale from the EU books.
Additionally, consider the hype and buzz around Empire Strikes Back when the doozy of Darth being Luke's father was dropped. We wouldn't get anything like that from a dramatisation of an existing story. Some of us are loving George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones series. There are some incredible and unexpected events constantly occurring throughout this saga. However, those of us who have read the books did not experience shock of Ned Stark's ending or the Red Wedding to the extent that the watchers of the HBO series did. We knew what was coming.
Over the past 30 years, I have read more than my share of SW books and comics and also played my share of SW games. I agree with Explosive Ewok in that, although there are some exciting sagas, there is also a LOT of dross.
The prequels received bad publicity for their reliance on CGI, poor acting, characters choices (Jar Jar), etc. All of which are the responsibility of the director. Mr. Lucas is a great storyteller .. but that is all. With JJ bringing his experiences from the Star Trek films, adhering to older movie making techniques and being a fan himself .. we are guaranteed a better product and we should be excited for it.
Although there are some exciting stories in the EU, leaving it behind (nay, moving it aside) was the best possible thing to do in order to progress this wonderful universe we all love.
Make you feel old? I'm doing just fine on that today on my 46th birthday!

Did somebody say Head Cannons?
Something about that just... Makes me gitty.

I think you meant giddy. 'Gitty' means something else. ![]()
But, yeah, I think it'd be pretty awesome if they put Luke into a similar role and to have the circle be complete (again).
Why is there always that guy, that can't let anyone else have their own opinion. There is no lore to screw. EU lore is gone.
Because some suits paid lots of money to get something and now they can just do as they please with it.
They say bugger the work that plenty of people have put into our beloved star wars over the last 30 years
Well I say bugger them!!
Well since we are on nostalgia and talking about when star wars hit its peak I think this video describes how well old I feel and how I feel about all things Star Wars from the Miniatures game to the upcoming movies.

This is actually really interesting.
I've never sat back and thought about how exactly Star Wars fit into my life, and this pretty much sums it up.
I also have never fully "let go" of Star Wars in terms of gaming. I guess the last time I felt like I was playing an exclusive SW game was Jedi Academy, and even that was just meh compared to Jedi Outcast. At least in terms of single player, the multiplayer was awesome.
I suppose that was when SW gaming died for me. It's true, as cool as Force Unleashed felt it was simply a God of War rehash. and the sequel, well, it was pretty bad. And oh the glitches.
At least I still enjoy the games that are released.
Currently I'm obsessed with Star Wars Commander, but that will only last so long.
