Just got my copy of Rebel Aces in the mail yesterday so I was super stoked to put something together with the A-Wings now that they're able to be a bit cheaper. I brought my stuff over to my friend's house and we sat down to play a game, me as the Rebels and him playing Imperial. I browse the forums daily chipping in here and there when I can, and I've learned quite a bit from everyone here so I threw together a quick and (what I thought) competitive list:
- Corran Horn (35) + R7-T1 (5) + Fire Control Systems (4) = 40
- Blue Squadron Pilot (22) + Heavy Laser Canon (7) = 29
- Prototype Pilot (17) + Chardaan Refit (-2) = 15
- Prototype Pilot (17) + Chardaan Refit (-2) = 15
Finished up at 99 points, I lost initiative to him by I think two points. I originally had two Blues and one Proto but I dropped a Blue in favor of HLC and slotted in another Proto. I think this list could work either way depending on what you need. I don't recall all of the upgrades he threw on but he had Fel + PTL, Whisper + VI, Jax, and Phennir. He's a big fan of the Interceptors and we love sarcastically breaking into Neon Trees' Everybody Talks whenever the combat phase begins and Whisper is on the table shooting first.
I deployed Horn and the Blue next to each other to my left and the two Protos next to each other on the right. He had Whisper lined up across from Horn and had all of his ships spread out equally. Launched the Protos four forward and slowly crept Horn and the Blue up two. After some slow maneuvering to scout out what the other person was doing, we converged in the middle for the first combat phase. Whisper shot first at one of my Protoype Pilots and was able to take off both shields and one hull point. I wanted Fel out of there as soon as possible so I took advantage of Horn's double tap and target locks and got rid of the guy right away. My Proto fell to Carnor Jax and that was all that could be done in the first round of shooting.
I stuck with 1- and 2-speed maneuvers for the Blue Squadron Pilot to try to maximize the HLC. Being able to consistently churn out 4-dice attacks without getting up in my opponent's grill is nice, especially since I'm not a big fan of grilling. That combined with four dice from Horn possibly twice in one round (and smiles from the dice gods) and you can make pretty quick work of most ships. I was able to pick off Phennir with the HLC after some nifty blocking with my remaining Prototype Pilot.
Unfortunately we weren't able to finish the game, but he agreed that I was the winner of the game so I took home an elusive victory. I liked the versatility of this list. The E-Wing doesn't have too bad of a dial and Horn's ability is probably my favorite in the game, everybody knows how good B-Wings are, and the A-Wings are so fun to fly. Those 1- and 2-speed turns are great, and the 5 green forward is perfect for getting out, turning around, and coming back in.
