Destroyed my defender

By force kin, in X-Wing

I agree with the idea that if you broke it, you pay for it. But if FFG is willing to replace it, then why not try for it? If FFG's customer service is good enough to replace peoples broken ships, then I can't see them factoring those costs into the retail costs of their products. It wouldn't make sense to annoy the majority with higher expense just to keep a small number of customers happy. And even if FFG does factor those costs into their products retail, then so be it. What do you think FFG's costs are for producing each ship? So even if they handed out say 1000 fighter replacements a year (which is probably a really high figure), what do you figure that combined cost devided between all the product they sell would work out to? Probably not even pennies on each model. I personally would be just fine paying that extra cost for that kind of replacement service. Sounds like a good insurance policy to me!

If I get away with buying bootlegs, why not do it?

If I get away with tax fraud, why not do it?

If I get away with stealing, why not do it? ;-)

People have different moral compasses and some find it offensive when they literally have to pay for the silly mistakes of others. And paying we all do for the generous replacement policy of FFG. I rather pay a few bucks extra per ship and have this policy in place, but at the same time I would never dream of to abuse the system in way to make others pay for stuff that I broke.

Some will agree on that others won't, doesn't really matter. We are talking in this case of optional social conventions.

Honestly if you cant afford to replace a $15 item you need to rethink your finances, involvement in the hobby etc etc

Are you married? Kids?

There are a lot of things in X-wing to buy. I've alreay spent a couple hundred dollars on this game and I'm sure to spend a few more. Still, I need to be as frugal as I can with my hobby spending. I'm not poor, but I'm a family man. Family spending trumps everything. While I can afford to spend another $15 to replace it, it is still the better thing to contact their customer service to see if I can get one or at least purchase the specific part at a reduce price.

I swear, the people that are upset that this guy just wants to ask for replacement is a little off kilter. It's not like he's saying he deserves it or is demanding it.

No offense, but your time should have more value than to deal 30 minutes with the customer service on a worse than 50/50 bet that you get a $15 replacement as a free donation from Asmodee, a company owned to 100% by private equity investment money. It it's cheaper to just buy a new one than the whole process of replacement than you should be better off with just buying a new one.

Still, nothing wrong with trying, I waste tons of time on the forums on less rewarding activities. But the money saved itself is still a bad argument. People simply feel good if a company they like treats them more than fair. Creates bonds to the company which creates more sales. All good business. ;-)

Firstly it's just the model, not the packaging, cards, tokens... So not really asking for a $15 donation, also that is not what they pay for them normally in retail there is a rule of 5s for production -> retailers, so it costs them probably just for the piece a dollar. Secondly if it takes you half an hour to write a short email to customer services, I would question your ability to make $30 an hour.

Come on guys, we need to get this thread up to 88 mph!

I was torn between wanting to put in my two cents and not contributing to necromancy, but having to offer comments from the peanut gallery won out.

Wow. Just...wow.

On the one hand, simply asking the question about a replacement doesn't make someone a filthy liberal who lives via handouts and exists for the express purpose of angering neo-cons. Expecting a replacement or getting pissy when there is no replacement is a bit entitled, but just asking is more of a "well you never know, I could get lucky" kind of thing.

On the other hand, it's fifteen dollars. If you don't have that to spend or at least able to plan for it in the next paycheck or two, then yeah. Maybe a tactical miniatures game (even one as accessible as X-Wing) isn't the right sort of hobby for you. $15 is literally only a couple bucks more than a pack of cigarettes in Manhattan. I mean...come on.

Still doesn't make someone a moocher.

Whatever, this whole thread gave me Forest Whittaker eye...

Great reference. Top notch. :D

I have to say, I clicked on this thread in the hopes that it had been updated by force kin with some news about how the derpfender has fared. I want to know what kind of reaction it got on the table, and if it held together all this time!
