Destroyed my defender

By force kin, in X-Wing

It kills me the conservative mind set so opposed to universal healthcare but all for a publicly funded police force and military, I'm English and I really don't get the let the poor die mentality the ultra right wing has.

This is a less extreme example of course but why so very opposed to helping someone with a genuine problem, heck on these very forums we've helped replace a guy's collection when it got stolen.

OP`s tried to fix it and amusing as the result is its clearly a valid reason to ask for a replacement, yes some people abuse the system that's true of any thing from the dole to tax credits but that doesn't mean you stop helping everyone that's just spite.

I agree with the first part of your post - and the last part, but I'd rather talk about healthcare vs police.

I reckon it must simply be mean-spirited selfishness. The stats are out there for anyone to see, it's common sense - pay people a decent wage or else subsidize their substandard wage with social programs. Don't fund social programs and ultimately subsidize the same problem by building jails and hiring more police officers.

Like being "tough on crime." Many of a conservative mindset look at Nordic countries' penal and taxation-social program dynamics and scoff - "40 percent income tax?!? Art therapy for prison inmates?! It's not fair!" - again, the numbers speak for themselves. Far lower crime rate, far less pollution, far higher scores on nearly every standard-of-living metric.

It's mind boggling.

Privatizing prisons was a bad move it gave people incentive to stick others in jail for the most petty of crimes, the number of weed users is staggering given its never even killed anyone unlike legal highs.

As for wages it is bad when you consider one person working 50 years ago could support a family just by working normal hours and these days two people working overtime barely manage, republicans don't care about people they care about big business and the campaign finance they provide.

Part of the problem is this belief everyone can become a millionaire if they work hard and invest right, it's just not true your either in the right place at the right time with the right idea or you start out rich and just get richer.

Sorry mate you need to do some homework. I have never said anything about cost of models in any of my posts. All I've been doing is trolling the OP because I think he is undeserving of a freebie in the case that he damaged the Defender due to his own carelessness. I'm not having a go a people on welfare, I'm having a go at people on this forum that think they can just boldly stick their hand out with the expectation that FFG will, should, might just cough up, its a welfare mentality. People should harden up and take some personal responsibility for their own actions. In the case of the OP he should just put up with his dilemma and move on and pay for his error. If he gets the freebie he learns nothing about the value of anything. If he goes out and buys a replacement he will atleast learn to be more carefull in future. Some of you people here also think this way, you have all sorts of arguments about looking after the customer etc. but all you are really doing is looking after yourselves and justifying your attitudes with twisted, self centred arguments. You were brought up on a diet of Happy Meals expecting a free this or that because you ate your dinner.

Yeah I got a bit rude with name calling but it certainly got your attention.

I was born in the last year of the baby boomers and baby boomers have constantly been called the selfish generation. We are blamed for destroying the planet because we wanted it all. OK its mostly correct, but we PAID our way, we worked hard and reaped (raped) the rewards, we understand the ethics that if you want something you have to work and pay for it "FIRST". Most of us don't have credit card debts because we understand the value of the things we earned or bought, whereas the next gens think you should have the reward before you do the work, little incentives that keep you happy and focussed. The worst thing we late BB's did is have kids. The generations we have created have become the laziest brats this planet has ever seen. You expect all the things your baby boomer parents have, but the difference is you are too lazy to work for it like they did, you expect it all for very little work in return. You run up debit on rubbish, you eat rubbish and you waste your lives away in front of computers. So many countless wasted hours glued to the internet discussing the most pointless and insanely mundane tripe, (this forum is so bad for it). Pointless subjects, grandstanding about mediocrity and pathetic parade of the huge numbers of posts you log up like trophies when really you should be ashamed at the time wasting that these numbers really reflect. Next time you are on You Tube watch a video called "Look up" and think about the meaning of the poem. I have trophies, they are for achievements in yachting at a world class level. I have done some pretty good things in my life and I will probably do some more amazing things too, I do a fair amount of reading on the internet and occasionally when I am interested I say something to help out or inspire others. Sometimes I read a thread like this and I turn away or dismiss it. On a rare occasion, some dork like here gets to me I have to let loose.

You really need to have a good hard look at yourself when you think its so important to you that when and old troll like myself invades your cosy little cyberspace that you have to defend it so much.

I will go toe to toe here if you want, or until a moderator wipes the slate, I don't care. I go back to work from leave tomorrow and I probably won't surf here again for months, sadly you........ Someone called me a troglodyte in an earlier post, yet I in the last few hours have laid 15 square metres of paving out in the sun, I have played with my child today and have done quite a fair bit of housework like two loads of washing, swept floors and planned dinner tonight. Sorry where was I, thats right I was about to call you a troglodyte, sitting in front of your computer with your poor real world social skills and vitamin D deficiency, fitting description, really, isn't it. You will still be here worrying about and discussing pointless build lists or watching unboxing videos (OMG) and wanting so much to be liked by perfect strangers. I think I like it better when I am liked by people that really know me, not the cardboard characters your generation is turning out to be. You can have it all, just PAY FOR IT FIRST.

^^^Way too long to read.

I'm digging the Derpfender!

Completely agree. I read the first 2 lines and that was enough for me. Next...

Thats exactly it. The ability to make yourself wealthy is next to impossible if your not born with advantages. Its funny how the US sells itself as the land of opportunity, but the division of wealth over the last 40 years has trended towards the wealthy just getting wealthier and the poor growing in staggering numbers. The rich guard their riches jealously, which is why they are all for publicly funded police. They may not get sick and need medical attention, but they sure as hell need the police to keep them feeling secure, and without the public police force, the costs for security would all come straight out of their own pockets. And then to make things worse, they help themselves further by basically turning prisons into sweat shops. But its really just all the unions faults for being so **** greedy and demanding fair wages!

I give you -

THE DERPFENDER!

I think it came out rather well.

Nobody can say it doesn't have character. If and when this thing finally falls apart, ill send a letter to FFG. They gotta hook me up after seeing what a great job I did in trying to retain my model. I'm clearly not taking anybody for a ride here, in fact I don't think it would even be possible to ride in this - even given the elastic conception of physics used in Star Wars.

Just imagine how bad it's gonna feel losing to this thing.

Looks like the Wookiee-designed prototype. Empire purchased the Wookiee's concept and then had it built with ALL the parts by another company.

WOTC's Star Wars Starship Battles had a Tie defender???!!?

Edited by TieDefender

Well today i took receipt of a TIE/ln and bloodstriped Tie int (plus a black squadron/mauler mythel base card) that had been accidentally damaged by my friends dog.

A big THANK YOU FFG for your excellent customer support/service.

You can rest assured i'll continue to buy from you knowing that accidental damage didnt mean I had to buy two whole *expansion packs* for three damaged parts (people forget you're not buying the ship, you're buying the cards, tokens, bases..it's an 'expansion pack' for a reason.

No apologies to anyone on here who seems to think that because FFG sent me two replacement ships the cost of their models will double overnight... it doesnt work like that. If anything their sales an revenue increases by keeping me enthusiastic about the game.

Next up attack of the neighbours cat!

I feel like everyone values everyone else's opinion too much. Just disagree and let it go. I've never seen anyone effectively intimidate or put someone in their place via internet forum. Lots of effort to do so, but with an abysmal success rate.

In most debates, you don't try to make your opponent change their mind, but everybody else. That's why people resort to ad hominems. Not because they are angry, but because they are still trying to undermine their opponents and ran out of arguments.

I accidentally dropped my defender model and didn't realize until after I had run it over with my car, braking it into about a dozen tiny pieces.

I'm going to try and glue it all back together. I've never been too slick with things like finicky gluing.

Tonight, I'll give it a shot and the derpfender will be born.

Do you reckon a well- written letter to ffg might yield me a new model? Seems silly to have to buy a new one in the likely event I can't glue the thing back together in a reasonable fashion.

So, did FFG come through for ya? And I must know, has the derpfender won any games yet?

Yeah well you have the walk of a longshoreman, and the dandy attitude of a Frenchman!

I have been too busy for either of these to have occurred. I still have the derpfender on display on my dresser though, and it's done very well for itself there

Boring, i know. I look forward to a time when I can play x wing, write emails and engage in online mud slinging without cutting into much needed sleep time.

Someday...

I registered an account simply to acknowledge the awesomeness of the Derpfender.

Even though I agree it's not FFG's responsibility to replace products which were damaged by user negligence (even though it resulted into an awesome model), I believe the OP had every reason to attempt a replacement at least once.

On a sidenote, skimming through the post gave me fits of giggles every time the pictures showed up.

It went something like "serious post, serious post, aggressive retort, giggles, serious post, giggles, serious post, rant, giggles" and so on.

Long live the Derpfender. I hope it wins games for you ;)

Thanks, bud! I'll have to have a derpfender-centered list to play with soon. Ill let you all know how it goes, of course

yeah,
If no-one use the customer service department FFG would close it.
So in reflection it's always best to ask for replacements etc...
It keeps the service open and the customer service people in employment.

FFG provide the outstanding service they do, not only to be a nice company but also because it increases the value their customers place in the company and it's products.
I'm guessing FFGs believe this is worth the cost or they would tighten the purse strings, and not replace ships eaten by dogs etc.

So people who call up FFG when their dog eats their X-wing are doing their part for the community by keeping the Customer services open... and we all praise FFG when we hear the stories.

But that's how a social community works, you're already apart of it here and one day you may need FFGs help.

Huzzah!

Panic...

I seriously think the guy just needs a friend. I kinda pity the poor fella. So hostile, and with no justification. Must be hard on the guys ticker.

So you two feel better now that you made your smart arse comments. It must make you feel so superior that your high functioning intellectual wit allowed you to come back at me nearly a month later. Did you think of your such witty remarks yourselves or didyou have to get someone else think of it for you!

Alright I've bitten, so now what?

You know I don't give a flying......... about what you think, so have you got anymore clever comments to make or do you have to go away and think about it for another month.

This post was more or less dead a month ago, but your comments are just trying to breath life into its dusty corpse. You could have been better men and left it alone, participated in something more relevant and on topic, but you instead chose to troll me yourselves. Well done children! You are now no better than me. What a pair of piss weak losers!

Shado - I was being sincere. Just because I disagree with much you have to say, doesn't mean I want to insult you. Your entitled to your opinions, as far flung as I may view them. And honestly, I don't really care that you have insulted me in the past, because you know nothing about me. It's in my nature to debate fairly, so I ended up feeling bad about not reading your long post before, so I went back and read it a while ago. You really missed the mark. I will tell you a little about me so if you want to insult me, you can do it without having to make wild assumptions.

I am not lazy, I have been a west coast logger for almost 20 years now. I can assure you, most laborers in the industry are hard a$$ workers. You don't make it if your not. During the summer forest fire seasons, I use to work concrete finishing. That can also be some tough work too, especially when wheel barreling heavy loads of concrete in 30+ Celsius degree weather over rocky terrain. But even my easiest days working on the logging towers, especially in 2 feet of snow with howling winds, makes the hardest days of anything else I've done seem like a cake walk. I know a little about what you do, working on the road crews, and I can tell you with informed opinion, piece of cake compared to the work I'm use to. You also make time to play with your kid after working? Well we work scheduled 11 hour days, monday to friday and some saturdays too, and I go home and play with my 3 children. I have a 7 year old daughter, and 2 and 3 year old sons. Plus I do yard work and clean and cook and hunt and all that jazz too. In our logging camp, I happen to be the elected camp chairman, so it probably has something to do with why I believe in a fair debate. I have been educated through courses for dealing with grievances, arbitration's, and conflict resolution, especially when dealing with managerial, authority types. I am also a trained Union organizer and course facilitator. I also sit as an elected member on our safety comity, and have also been a level 3 occupational first aid attendant, with those first aid responsibilities being on top of my normal work responsibilities. As a first aid attendant in the forest industry, which is still rated one of the most dangerous job fields in the world, I have seen my share of hectic situations. So I think I know a little about hard work and responsibility.

Oh, and being 35, hardly constitutes as being a child.

There, now you can insult away.
