Combining Experimental Interface with Push the Limit

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

I have seen a lot of people saying that together these cards give you three actions. Correct me if I am wrong, unless you are Tycho you can't take actions while stressed, so as soon as you use one of the extra actions you get your first stress then you can't do any actions (even free ones) until you clear the stress.

Exactly! Though as you mention, Tycho might be REALLY nasty with that combo.

Tycho

- Refit

- Test Pilot

- Experimental Interface

- Push The Limit

- Expert Handling

32 points, and an absolute beast with actions..

It can work if you have a way to automatically clear the first stress. Porkins, for instance can push the limit to focus/lock, remove the stress, then if you take damage, you can EI to activate the droid that can repair hull, then remove stress again.

Short version from the other thread: Each triggers from the action, and resolves before you move on to get stress. So:

- Base action

--- Trigger Ptl

------ Take PtL Action

--------- Trigger EI

------------ Take EI Action

------------ Gain EI Stress

------ Gain PtL Stress

Yorr next to a beefy Decimator maybe? Haven't really looked at the possibilities.

Of course stacking the two upgrades is pretty useless on non-Tycho pilots, even if the rules allow it to function. You're getting an extra action for one turn, but only at the cost of 3 points, a modification slot, and spending multiple turns doing green maneuvers before you're able to take an action again. You're almost always better off just using one of them every turn for consistent extra actions instead of having one big turn at the expense of the future. And this is especially true when you consider that just using EI frees up your EPT for predator/outmaneuver/etc to gain passive "actions" every turn without any stress.

This is what Wingmen are for :D

The only caveat with the last sentence is the EPT is where you get the vast majority of extra actions that aren't on your ship's action bar. There are some Astros and crew that do it, but with the exception of R2F2 Biggs I can't think of a whole lot of uses for EI that don't involve an EPT. I guess Test A-wings too.

So what is the verdict here...Does both tigger in one turn or does the one stress token stop the other?

what about squad leader for the EI action. Don't know if needs 3 actions (1 always being barrel roll)

As per FFG's email answer

Action

Ptl action

EI action

EI stress

Ptl stress

If the Fleet Officer is the EI action you even end up with three stress.

that should work, and it would be a nifty way of using it. Personally I would prefer if there was a clarification on when the stress token is applied from ptl. (basically either after all actions that springboard, or immediately after the ptl/ei action)

This would never happen if we used the stack!

I know this is what FFG says how it works. But I'm not fond of it at all.

Nesting adds complication to a simple system.

They did. Alex or Frank said that effectively actions can be nested.

Because the trigger for the stress from PtL or EI is the same, After an action, which is also the trigger for PtL or EI itself, After an action.

How much clarification do you need?

from the linked topic, last page, post 85

I understand your question now. I must have read it too quickly the first time. There are indeed nested effects. In its simplest form Push the Limit itself is a nested effect: action happens, PtL can trigger, that player choose to use PtL and resolves an action, Push the Limit finishes resolving (ship receives a stress token). Also, we have already had some abilities that “interrupt” other abilities. For example, if “Dutch” is equipped with R7-T1, when “Dutch” uses the action from R7-T1, after he acquires a target lock, a friendly ship at Range 1–2 may acquire a target lock before “Dutch” chooses to perform a free boost action or not.

Things can get more complicated once there are more abilities that trigger off of having performed action. For example, a Decimator equipped with Dauntless could overlap another ship gaining a free action, chooses to focus, uses the ability from PtL to perform an acquire a target lock action, then uses the ability from Experimental Interface to use Fleet Officer, then receive 1 stress from Fleet Officer, then receive 1 stress from Experimental Interface, then receive 1 stress from Push the Limit, then receive 1 stress from Dauntless, then ending that activation having performed 3 actions and receiving 4 stress.

Hope that clears things up, thanks for asking!

I mean actually in the FAQs, as this came up last week when I was against Jake with ptl, and he asked me how the interaction worked and I thought he could do to simultaneous actions, but without looking on the forums its not that easy to debate.

I mean actually in the FAQs

The updated FAQ will come out once Wave 6 gets here.

A huge ship with Comms Booster would also be pretty effective for clearing the stress...

I hadn't even realized it WASN'T in the FAQ yet, we have been dealing with the issue so long.

keyan could handle that much stress. here goes

no stress--

adv sensors

ptl

ei

green manuever

fire

stress free. use expose to boost that attack too.not terribly fast, or maneuverable, but it can kill 2 stress in one move by itself.

note: thats a 46 point keyan, with 3 action per turn, and stress to shoot with.

might pair with a dash or leebo pretty well.

Yes and No? Since we've known about Experimental Interface it has been a long while. Since it has been Officially released it's been a short time.
