2 str + 3 agility dice +1 range + any other bonuses. So yeah, on an A-wing at least 6.
Secondary weapon. No range bonus.

Not that I don't believe you, but for my own edification where abouts in the rulebook can I find that(page etc)?
Main rulebook, bottom of the right column on page 10. Range bonus only applies to primary weapons.
Awesome. The reason I ask really is so when someone questions me I can quick point to the rules. I've missed that one previously so shame on me.
Also on the back page at the bottom.
Sorry to change the subject a little here, but on the theme of proton rockets...are these not a bit over powered at a cost of just 3 points? You don't even have to spend the focus token to use it therefore being able to use the token during the attack right?
How do A-wings/M3-A pay more for the proton rockets?
Yeah actually now you mention it, some of the missiles are really over priced. As I have played many 200 point games, I do like to add some assault missiles to plough into a group of Ties. Can't see me getting them into many 100 point builds though !
A-Wings give up on taking the Refit (at -2 points) in order to take the missiles, making them net 5 cost.
Proton Rockets are not that OP as it is a range 1 attack and even though it doesn't cost a target lock it still cost a focus. It can be more flexible but there is still some planing when employing them. Also putting it on a YT-1300 would be a waste of 3 points.
A-wings are NOT a 15 point ship just because there is an upgrade card out there that allows you to fill a missile slot and subtract 2 points from your squadron total. So proton rockets doesn't have a cost 5 points just because you ship would cost 5 points less if you switch proton rockets for the chardan refit. You still HAVE to have the upgrade card otherwise you basic prototype pilot would still costs 17 points. You can't just say, "I'm not using missiles so it only cost 15 points (or 2 points less of whatever the cost of the pilot you selected)".
The only thing is with the Rebel Aces pack coming with 3 of those upgrade cards it is uncommon for players to not have enough to cover all their A-wings unless they have 3 or more A-wing packs and only 1 Rebel Aces.

You don't discard the focus when you fire Proton Rockets.
Couple points:
First, Proton Rockets requires you to have a focus, but not to spend it (i.e. cost the focus). That's what makes them so awesome - they're Homing Missiles with Deadeye for half the cost.
Your point about the A-wing's opportunity cost for missiles is an interesting one... but as long as we're discussing Proton Rockets, you missed an important point - the Chardaan Refit comes in the same box as the Proton Rocket, and you get 3 Refits but 2 Rockets. So at least for now there's really no way to have a Proton Rocket but not have a Chardaan Refit unless you let your cat have the refits or something.
the Chardaan Refit comes in the same box as the Proton Rocket, and you get 3 Refits but 2 Rockets.
Sure but lets say you have 4 A-Wings and 1 Rebel Aces. That gives you 5 A's, 3 refits and 2 rockets. So you don't have enough refits to cover all your ships.

But you do have at least enough Chardaans to cover everywhere you might take a Proton Rocket. So if you take a missile on an A-wing, you are foregoing that discount. If you take enough A-wings to exhaust your supply then I suppose it's into a different opportunity cost (-2 points vs. the $30 to buy another Rebel Aces), but that's a different issue. If you choose to use a limited card somewhere else you're still making the same choice to use the Rocket rather than an (available) Chardaan. You're still making choices in your list which lose out on the -2 points.
But you do have at least enough Chardaans to cover everywhere you might take a Proton Rocket.
I was just pointing out that if you have 4 A-Wing expansions and 1 Rebel Aces, you have 5 A-Wings but not enough refits to go around. At that point is there really an opportunity cost for putting a missile on, since you don't have enough refits in the first place?
Consider the following list.
Prototype Pilot, Chardaan Refit x3
Green Squadron Pilot, Proton Rockets, Push the Limit
Jake Farrell, Proton Rockets, Push the Limit
You've used the 3 Refits on the ships that will have the least chance to effectively use the rockets, and put the rockets on the ships most likely to land hits with them.
Nothing says those Prototypes have to be A-wings. If you ran Headhunters instead, you free up the Chardaans. Or you spend the money for another box of Rebel Aces. Or you proxy, given a willing opponent. Either way, taking a missile on an A-wing means you've made choices in your list that raise the overall cost of that missile by those 2 extra points. Whether that choice comes because you make it directly or you only want to buy one Rebel Aces and intentionally craft your list to overload your supply of Refits, the choice to forego is still yours, and still made. The opportunity cost may be leveraged against something different, but the opportunity exists regardless of why you choose not to take it.
Either way, taking a missile on an A-wing means you've made choices in your list that raise the overall cost of that missile by those 2 extra points.
Exactly true. Any missile on an A-Wing effectively costs two more points than it should.
In casual play, it shouldn't matter if someone wanted to proxy more Chardaan Refits for an optimal squadron.
In tournament play, borrow extra copies from friends or buy the extra set of Rebel Aces.
I used multiple missiles/rockets for the first time last night on two Tie Bombers and found a key element is taking both Jonus and Rhymer both with Deadeye!! Im wishing for a third named bomber now as we play 150 point games!
