Those who have Reb Aces, post pics!

By R22, in X-Wing

I'm curious how the minis look becuase I've seen both impressive models like those in the FFG announcements but also some that look lackluster. Obviously they're only going to use the best looking ones in the official announcements but I'd appreciate it if anybody could post the in-hand ones to get a baseline on their general quality. Thanks in advance.

I don't have my own images of the ships yet, since I don't have Rebel Aces yet. However, friends of mine bought it at Gencon, so I have seen the ships up close. The B-Wings are a deeper red than FFG's initial announcement made them look. I like them much better with the deeper shade of red.

The latest article about Rebel Aces shows better detail on the models, including more accurate colors. Here they are:

I painted the engines metallic yellow/gold, so that's the only inaccuracy. I also notice that the Bwing's red is exactly the same as the old Awing's red.

Obvious modification done here is the engine flames. Otherwise the Awings are untouched.

One thing I do not like about the prototype Awing is the missing small red triangles that are supposed to be on the 2 front panels (where the circle markings on the old Awing are). One thing i like about the prototype Awing is that the big white triangle is also painted on the bottom.

I noticed on one of the packs the B-wing had some red over-spray around the cockpit.

What I don't like about the prototype A-wing is that the white space seems untouched and so breaks the illusion of it being a miniature. It seems more like a toy. The red A-wing has gray panels that break up the white and so keep it looking like a miniature.

How did you do the engine exhaust? Nice.

Thematically, though, it makes sense for the prototype to look like it's fresh off the assembly line.

I've always thought that prototypes would probably be without any markings at all. I'm thinking of doing one in a sort of dull metallic colour to look like it hasn't painted. That's fresh off the assembly line! :D

Oh man, the red on that B-wing looks sloppy to me. Definitely going to pick up from my LGS so I can look at the models first. The A-wing looks fine to me, maybe spot coat some gray panels or just give it a light wash.

A thin gray wash would be easy to do and would break up the white nicely.

Or stripped down to make way for a new jazzy reb repaint.. lol..

The Delorian look would be cool too, I'm trying to do that on a TIE advanced.. lol

Post pics when done and let me know how you do it. I'm wondering if (dirty looking) metallic paints would look OK at this scale.

This looks horrible. I'll have to buy three or four sets to make sure I'm not seeing things.

Some simple red highlights would work wonders for those who don't dig the darker shade. Honestly I will end up doing this depending on how mine comes out.

Just picked up Aces at my FLGS--indeed, some of the B-wings had smudgy paint jobs. I was able to grab one with nice sharp lines, though.

Didn't even think to look. Not likely to matter anyway, don't like the dagger paint scheme so they're nect on the list of stuff to have repainted.

The one thing i did notice about my 'red' B-wing is that it doesn't sit diagonally when standing on the base...unlike the regular B-Wing expansion. They all look like they need an alignment.

What is the scenario in Rebel Aces? Anything really cool like Imperial Aces's scenario?

Do you use the same pegs that the ship came with? I think some B-wings were packaged with a batch of miscast pegs that are not oriented correctly. Try swapping them out for some other ones. That is want happened to my first one. The elbow on the B should be correctly aligned though.

I'm afraid to try and go back to link it on my phone, but there's an article about it on the FFG splash page.

On my regular b-wings, doesn't matter what base and peg combination I use...they all have that gangster lean.

Wow, that looks really sharp! I'll have to do that too!

And I'm getting my Rebel Aces today! :)

I just can't believe that the paint jobs of small plastic models made in a factory where they make pennies an hour aren't perfect. -_-
