Rexler Brath's ability

Just wondering - does Rexler Brath's ability allow you to bypass shields?

It seems as though his ability is similar (not the same, but similar) to the Proton Bomb, which DOES bypass shields.

Is there a difference between flipping a damage card face up and dealing a damage card faceup? If so, what is the difference?

No it does not.

His ability triggers after an attack. A bomb does not result in an attack. A bomb is not even a weapon. Neither a primary weapon nor a secondary weapon.

In addition to that, his ability only triggers if you deal damage cards. That requires the target to have no shields (1). If there are no shields, you cannot ignore shields.

(1) Unless there is a proton bomb. But then there is no attack.

The difference between dealing a face up card and flipping a damage card face up is that flipping a card face up requires there be a card to flip up in the first place. If your attack doesn't deal any damage cards then you don't have anything to flip up. If you deal 2 damage to the defender and they have 2 shields, then you don't deal them any cards - and rexler's ability can't trigger. So, no - his ability cannot possibly bypass shields.

And a good way to utilize his ability is to have another ship strip the shields, and then let Rex come in for the flippy nuisance effect..

Also worth noting that Rexler first requires you to have preformed an attack that dealt damage cards. 99.9% of the time, that will mean that at the time he can use his ability there will be no shields. The only exception I can think of right now is if he deals multiple damage to a ship with the Chewie crew (and the Rebel player chooses to use Chewie to block a later damage instead of the initial one for some reason). That could end up with an attack that dealt a damage card and then having a shield when Rexler flips the damage card that was already dealt.

Nope. You have to strip the shields first. 'Cause there has to be a card to flip up first.
