The Hunter specialization

By Ferretz, in General Discussion

There is a specialization for the Seeker, that is called the Hunter. This one specializes in "confronting and overcoming dangerous creatures".

My problem with this specialization hasn't so much to do with any specific rules, but rather the theme, as it seems to me that going about in the galaxy to hunt for excitement, sport or to test one self is not something a Jedi would do, at least not one following the light side of the Force.

Now I realize that Force & Destiny is not about playing Jedi, but rather "force users" and "force adepts". But who are we kidding? Most players will want to play Jedi, or Jedi-in-training. So of all the specializations, the Hunter is the one that is least "Jedi-like", as taking life, even the life of a "dangerous creature, when its not neccessary, is one step further on the path to the dark side. And seeking out creatures with the intention to kill them, just because they're dangerous, is not much better.

As for the Seeker, a specialization I would much rather have liked to see here is something along the lines of the Archeologist from Edge of the Empire.

Any thoughts?

A colony on a remote world is seeking help. They are losing a colonist a day to a dangerous creature. The order dispatches a hunter.

I think the theme may be odd for a Jedi, but it makes perfect sense for a Force Sensitive living in the Galactic Empire mainly because of its Talents and ranged focus. Perhaps its flavor could be tuned down, idk.

Also, while hunting may be a little off the curve in light of the tasks Jedi used to perform, you could say that such characters specialize in hunting Sithspawn, evil beasts or or maybe consider that some Jedi, such as Sylvar in Tales of the Jedi, could incorporate it to their lifestyles.

I mean, just because they fall into the whole warrior monk stereotype, it doesn't mean that they didn't perform other tasks (:

I like the spec and think Seeker is one of the finest additions to the game exactly because it shifts focus from Jedi-ish characters and delves into the whole Force Adept- Sensitive concept.

The very first star wars character I ever made was basically a hunter. Non-jedi force adept. I'm really excited because I feel like now I can model her again, the way I did in her original incarnation.

Hunters are a great spec to represent force traditions such as the zeison sha, gand finds men, and even a grey jedi like jolee bindo, sitting on the kashyykkian surface.

I think it's important to realize that there is a wider appeal than just jedi, and that people do want to play.

I think the OP hit the nail on the head with the statement "not every character is going to be a Jedi."

As a matter of fact, none of the characters in FaD are actually Jedi. They're instead a bunch of Force users that are (usally) trying to stay off the Emperor's radar while developing their Force abilities and recovering what lore about the Force and the Jedi that they can. The LS Form specs are probably the closest to being "Jedi" in that they focus on using a lightsaber in a style of fighting once used by the Jedi Knights prior to their destruction. So having specs like Hunter or Aggressor are perfectly in keeping with FaD being about Force users, as not every Force user is going to be a paragon of the light side.

Plus, a Seeker/Hunter could very well be someone that uses their formidable hunting talents to track down missing or kidnapped people and returning them to their loved ones for a modest fee, using their combat prowess to deal with those that would seek to prevent the kidnap victim from being safely returned.
