BREAKING NEWS: MM so successful; they sold out of Tie Advanced

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

or Tie advanced fix coming, much spoiler.

Seriously though. Those sales and prices? =)

They probably just melted them all down to sell the plastic for a slightly higher profit.

Or opened them all and took a bath in them.

YUP Sold out last night, I check often. It was done at 3:00 A.M.

I thought about getting another, but I already have two, and it seems like a safe bet that whatever fix they implement will come with another one. And I don't think I'll ever really need to run more than three Advanced, no matter how good the fix is...

I own 3 advances. Lets See the #fix#

What's MM?

What's MM?

DAT!

:D

I might move to America just to get cheaper toys.

You think the TIE Advanced fix will come with a model? It would have to be a repaint - what options are there?

Miniature Market (MM) is a Paradise of anything you can think of for the wargamer , collector...The carry just about everything ; from miniatures to board games...

I'm speculating based on the fact that the balance fixes we've gotten so far (Royal Guard TIE, Chardaan Refit) have come bundled with the ship to which they apply. I have no idea what a repaint would look like, though, and maybe they'd do something like Most Wanted where you have cards for a ship but no model.

Yeah, Most Wanted is what I was thinking - it could come with something else, some pack to improve old ships. Also, isn't whatever they thought would benefit Interceptors (and counter turrets) likely to benefit Advanceds too? That might be all we get.

Be annoying really if it does come with a model - so to make my three Advaceds fly able I'd have to buy three more. Bit of a pain.

What needs to be fixed with the Tie Advanced?

What needs to be fixed with the Tie Advanced?

Welcome to the board! The short version is that it's the least efficient ship in the game on attack, with the exception of the Outer Rim Smuggler and the upcoming YT-2400 (which will have lots of options for boosting its attack). It also has one of the worst dials in the game, and the only dial with neither a 1-straight or 1-turn maneuver available to it. Its upgrade bar is also remarkably empty, and the one upgrade it can take has some efficiency problems of its own.

It's one of the least-played ships in the game, with a rare exception for Darth Vader, and the consensus around here--as well as among the game's design team, apparently--is that it needs a pretty serious shot in the arm in order to become a more attractive choice.

It's overpowered. They need to nerf it a bit to give Phantoms and Fat Hands a chance in the meta.

Do you think the ORS is over costed, or just not particularly attacky (but making up for it with defence)? I always thought it was the reasonable YT1300 (as the named ones are overpowered), but maybe that was just in comparison to them.

Basically, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

The lesson of the TIE Advanced and A-wing, taken together, is that there's a cap on the value of any ship with 2 Attack. The YT-1300 gets around this with the Outrider title and the cannon slot, as well as Eaden Vrill's pilot ability. But the ORS is indeed a decent, reliable performer on defense, and if you can close to Range 1 with it (and why not? no one's afraid of it, and it has a better-than-decent dial) it's actually worth using.

But that leaves it stuck in an awkward hole, a bit like the Advanced: you can't really make it cheaper due to its already excellent value for cost on defense, but it's hard to justify spending so much on a ship that's going to make a negligible contribution to your offense.

So if I were designing the Falcon over from scratch, I'd give all its pilots ORS stats and a turret slot. Then I'd build a "Quad Laser Turret" upgrade with the "Large ship only" restriction that gives you an unrestricted 3 Attack, and price that appropriately--somewhere around 9-10 points. Then I'd add in the YT-1300-only Millennium Falcon title at 5 points or so, adding +2 hull and +1 shield. (I'd also seriously consider making Engine Upgrade apply only to Large ships, and add the evade action instead of boost.)

That way the point isn't really to make the naked ORS viable, although you're happy if someone finds a way to do that--meaning you sidestep the problem of the ORS being too cheap for its defense but too expensive for its offense. The point is to provide a platform that can be built up to resemble the canon Falcon, with some mix-and-match pieces that permit some other options along the way.

(shrug) I hope that answered your question...?

ORS are pretty cheap though aren't they? I know two dice is pretty useless, but you do get a lot of attacks, since you don't have to position people in your arc (and you have a great dial), and you can up your damage output with anti persuit lasers, since the PS is so low.

I wonder if big shops should be able to take two modifications, that might help.

Dude, you can't stop Engine Upgrade giving boost - it's my favourite upgrade!

Ors is great. 2 attack is usually 3 attack because it's so easy up get a large ship base in close - especially one with the yt's dial - one of the best in the game.

At 27 points and ps1, with a large base and and 2 crew slots it can be kitted up as the best blocker in the game.

I fly it with 3 naked b wings and it kicks ass.

To my mind, it's designed to be flown in very tight to enemy formations and block. This gives it a much-needed 50 percent boost to its attack and with its 1-turns specifically, you'll find it is great at staying in the face of your opponents ships , particularly slower- moving ones like b wings.

It's a super blocker.

Simplest repaint I can think of is the empire blue
