A New Appreciation For Our Forum...

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

So, I'm not actually a huge forum goer. I have only ever been a member at 3, maybe 4 forums (i could be forgetting one maybe) in my whole life. And of course, two of them were Zelda related. And of those, the first was one I visited in high school. The second one is one I recently became a member of.

And good god is it dead.

I mean come on. It's a forum linked (heh) to Zelda Dungeon, a Zelda fan site that boasts impressive traffic, and is dedicated to a subject for which there are millions of fans the world over. And yet conversations proceed at the speed of molasses on their boards. An entire day may go by with only a handful of relevant threads being updated or created. And when they are, it's usually only a single post (which is two sentences). Some threads even boast 300 views, but only 7 replies. It's maddening! Meanwhile over here, I can check the top 5 threads, post a short reply in the 6th thread, then go back to the main page and have all 5 have replies in them with an extra new thread in there to boot!

So I know that sometimes there's bickering going on over here but good god people, do we have an active community! Be proud of it! The grass is green as sh** over here.

You must eat a lot of vegetables. Either that or you're really bad at lawn maintenance.

Because, yeah, if you like gaming "in real life" (vs PC/video games...and I totally dig those, myself, but MAN...board/miniature games with friends over and beer? NO CONTEST!), you can spend a LOT of time there...

To be fair, you can still do that with video games... just played mario kart 8 at home with 2 other friends while the others were coming for a board game nights this weekend and I had as much fun and laugh as during the boardgame session... super smash bros Wii U is coming, I'll be sure to organise some fighting nights with beers! But yeah, boardgame over online videogame...

Regarding the OP post. It's true that there is a lot of activity on this forum (enough to actually have to filter what you will bother to read) and it sure is better than a dead forum, regardless of all the whining we get once in a while.

Some video game forums are fairly active. I play a game called World of Tanks on their ASIA server (the smallest of the ones that they operate). The ASIA forums are about as active as the X-Wing subforum is on here. I suspect the other server's forums are even more so.

The success of this is mainly due to the Clan Rivalry and Diplomacy sections that encourage a certain amount of competitive behaviour and general banter back and forth. A war declaration isn't considered proper unless it is accompanied by a decent amount of images and gifs.

Combine the active community with threads like the ones celebrating Cubanboy's son and it really is something. Yes, there is bickering but I, too, remain very impressed.

Table top gamers have always been big forum nerds.
