Can anyone shed light on why they're releasing three core books with overlapping material to me? We were discussing it on another forum but the only reasonable guess was due to licensing agreements but to be honest it still feels like they're sticking it to their customers a bit.
Book release question
A company that wants to make money and profit. What an ahborant thought. The gall.
Back in the beginning FFG stated they wanted to release the game focusing on three different aspects; fringe, rebellion, and the Force. Hence why we have Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and the upcoming Force & Destiny. And yeah I hope they make truckloads of money and keep producing Star Wars books.
As an executive summary for posterity, the games are meant to be played separately. They're absolutely cross-compatible, and the designers rightly emphasize this quality, but at the end of the day each one represents a different thematic element of the Star Wars universe. EoE is the criminal underworld, AoR is the military science-fiction, and FaD is the mysticism.
I'm not saying the objections against reprinted material are unfounded, but while they use the same setting and system, they're different games.
EDIT: For clarification, this isn't supposed to be dismissive of the OP. It's a valid (if tired) question.
Edited by CaptainRaspberryI see I've found the ignorant jerk of the forum.
Just report them, ignore them, and move on. No sense posting insults that might get you banned when they report you for it. ![]()
EDIT: Note, I rarely am capable of following this advice myself. And yes, it has bitten me several times in the past.
Edited by evileeyoreThank you Yoshiyahu and Captain Raspberry for the easy polite responses to my question. That's really all the answer I was looking for.
You'll have to forgive the regulars - this question gets asked a LOT around here.
I'm glad that Force and Destiny is a different production line. In past Star Wars games, the Jedi usually throws the power curve for a loop. It's hard to balance guns with all of the cool force powers and the force users are usually over powered.
As for Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion being different product lines, as a player I don't understand the need. To me, both product lines are two sides of the same coin. The stuff people living on the fringe of society do is the same as the stuff people fighting in the Rebellion do. The difference is where you get your missions. In Edge, making money and surviving is your motivation. In Age, you're a soldier and fighting for the rebellion is your motivation.
Where the difference between Edge and Age comes in, is from the game design standpoint. In Age, they can design careers with a more military bend and adventures that assume you are working for the rebels. Edge is everything not directly rebel related.
The question has been answered elsewhere and so the thread has been locked. Thank you Yoshiyahu for linking to our video that includes an overview of the three product lines from the developers.
A note to all: please try and remain civil on these forums. If there is a thread or comment with which you disagree strongly, consider whether or not it is important that you respond at all. For certain, addressing others in an aggressive or antagonistic manner is not the way to proceed.
