Yet Another Rexler Brath List

By kingargyle, in X-Wing

I'm looking for some weak points on the this list. A couple I know already such as loosing Rexler Brath early is going to be bad. Jonus needs to stay out of arcs and range to stay on the board.

100 points

Darth Vader with Decoy

Jonus

Rexler Brath with HLC + Predator

The general idea is to have Predator as an insurance re-roll in case Jonus is out of range or gets taken off the board early. I debated between Swarm Tactics and Decoy on Vader to allow swapping pilot skill with whoever needs to shoot first, but primarily to give Rexler Brath the opportunity to use his HLC early if necessary.

I've flown a similar build without Rexler Brath and predator, but with a PS 1 Defender with HLC + Stealth Device to good affect. Jonus also carried Proton Bombs in that build.

The list is fun to fly but I'm sure there are holes I'm not seeing for a competitive list.

Personally I think Decoy is a waste, going from 8 to 9 isn't really worth 2 points in my opinion

Although... squad leader on Vader is interesting. Give Rexler a TL and focus for his HLC. I would drop predator from Rex, and give Vader Proton Rockets instead.

As much as i love me some Jonus, i would probably drop him from this list in favor of a lower bomber with ordnance...especially if Darth has Squad Leader.

Darth /w SL, Proton Rocket

Rex /w HLC

Gamma /w 2 Flechette

Gamma could easily have different loadout and/or switch to a Scimitar for more ordnance, or give Rex a EPT. Decent options there.

Jonus is solidly a waste. If Rexlar dies early (and he will be focused down for sure) you're left with a pair of two-dice attacks. Jonus does little for the squad there.

I'll echo earlier advice and suggest dropping Jonus. I don't think he's worth it to buff Rexlar's HLC that already has predator. I think an imperial 3 ship list where only one ship has high offensive potential is going to really struggle in a competitive environment, once that Defender's dead you're really sunk. If you want to run Vader and Rexlar, maybe try something like:

Vader w/Outmaneuver, Engine, and Proton Rockets

Rexlar w/Predator

and for your last points either a naked Shuttle or a Scimitar Tie Bomber w/Proton Bombs

It's probably still going to struggle against many lists, but that might be more fun (in my opinion).

I dunno I used Jonas brothers last week and he did me proud with predator on him he only missed once all game and laid down some real hurt.

Swarm tactics on Vader use it on Jonas so your gonna hit first, when I started swarm tactics did well for me and several times killed wedge long before he had a chance to shoot.

Yeah, I figured Jonus was a week point on the list. Keep the suggestions coming.

I could switch Predator from Rex to Jonus, will at least give him some bite.

I originally in the list had Swarm Tactics on Vader. While I like it, it is only useful if you keep Vader within Range 1. Where as Decoy, is range 1 - 2. But I'll try a build with Swarm Tactics as well.

It's better on rex you don't want to use that focus to get hits if you can avoid it, can't wait for wave five and fleet officer so rexler never has an issue with focus again.

I like this discussion. Big proponent of Rexlar and the pairing with Vader is interesting, especially as it gets him in a list...

I like the Vader+Squad Leader idea, it can give you the same effect as Jonus but up to range 2 instead of 1 and gives you back 22 points to work with, also, it lets Brath fly more unpredictably, which will be crucial if he's your only big gun.

So here is another variation of the the list with Darth and Rexler anchoring the list:

99 Points

Darth Vader + Squad Leader

Rexler Brath + HLC + Predator

Scimatar Squadron Pilot + Seismic Charges + Hull Upgrade

or

Darth Vader + Swarm Tactics

Rexler Brath + HLC + Predator

Scimatar Squadron Pilot + Seismic Charges + Hull Upgrade

I could swap out the Seismic Charges and Hull Upgrade to go with Proton Bombs.

I would drop jonus and the hlc on brath to free up 29 points. How you spend that is up to taste but backstabber and an academy (or obsidian) pilot would add some blocking potential while adding more overall bite than jonus and the hlc would. Squad leader would also work if you wanted to run turr phenir with vi

Darth Vader + Squad Leader

Rexler Brath + HLC + Predator

Scimatar Squadron Pilot + Seismic Charges + Hull Upgrade

This is a much stronger list, but it looks to me like Vader really wants a missile; otherwise, he's annoying but lacks punch. Given this list as a template, I'd do something more like this:

Darth Vader (29)

Squad Leader (2)

Concussion Missiles (4)

Rexler Brath (37)

Predator (3)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Alpha Squadron Pilot (18)

Total: 100

Your opponent isn't likely to be shooting the #3 ship in this list anyway, so why not run a cheap glass cannon? And all the way back to Wave 1, my experience with Vader has been that seeing an early 4-hit attack from Vader can kill some fragile ships outright, and is likely to do enough damage to any target to force your opponent to rethink his or her approach.

I ran the following this weekend and it did pretty well. Ran against I guy I typically loose too and Rexler Brath was just a Beast with Predator and his ability to flip the damage cards.

Swarm Tactics actually came in useful more than once to allow Vader to strip evades, focus tokens, and shields. Rexler than came in for the kill on several occasions. The list still needs some battles to against some more builds to see how it will hold up long term. But it so far has good potential.

Darth Vader + Swarm Tactics
Rexler Brath + HLC + Predator
Scimatar Squadron Pilot + Seismic Charges + Hull Upgrade
