Fourth faction: confirmed

By xanderf, in X-Wing

But there's the rub. My form of bliss requires more investment than the lowest-common-denominator form of playing this game, and that is very hard to come by. :(

Therefore, no bliss for me. That's why something like civilians and missions and an official outline for how to get more out of this game would be a blessing. It would legitimize a more immersive experience, and signal how it might be done, without a ton of explanation and third-party inputs.

Do you want me to role-play with you? Very well, I'm a paladin with 18 charisma and 97 hit points. I can use my helm of disintegration and do 1d4 damage as my half-elf mage wields his +5 holy avenger.

I LoL'ed

Mike, you may be right, I may have missed the irony/sarcasm.. but can you blame me.. there are so many chicken littles on here it's hard to distinguish between them..

Well, I'll vouch for Xander as not being that sort. ;)

But to take your counterpoint (as well as WW's) seriously, I think you are both mistaken about combat games necessarily excluding noncombatants. The idea of warfare excluding the innocent was a rare paradigm. If this game is about simulating combat, then it should be something that includes the possibility of making war on innocents - to give the combatants objectives to fight over. If it's not supposed to be simulating something, why not go play Chess or Go?

We play a lot of 'original' rogue trader rules 40k. Most games have civilian elements... someone who ha to be kidnapped or protected or evacuated or the firefight happens in a crowded town. we even put rules in that meant that if you epically fail your hit roll then you hit any civilians within an inch of your fire line either way! :)

edit: and in the campaign we were playing where an imperial garrison was trying to put down a genestealer cult inssurection then slotting the populace by accident had 'in game' impacts later down the line when the locals were hostile to units that had previously shot up their settlement etc

Who said civilians had to be unarmed..?

Ahhhhhhhh ....yeah.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Who said civilians had to be unarmed..?

The far left.

They're preventing us from having a fourth faction??

Thanks, Obama!

Corporate Sector Authority will be the 4th faction.

If FFG doesn't do it, then we, the FFG crowdsource community can do it.

I suppose its a strong EU faction. As much as 'black sun' is tbh.

I could see that being a direction. Its 'e wing' timeline isnt it?

So let me get this straight... we've got the Imperials, the Rebels, the outlaws making up Scum & Villainy... and now the fourth faction is EVERYBODY ELSE!?

isn't Scum & Villainy already "everybody else"?

or do I see this universe too black and grayish/black? ;)

So when do we get coralskippers?

Okay, that made me chuckle harder than usual. +1 to you good sir.

So when do we get coralskippers?

Fifth faction Inc!

Leaving the OPs tongue still well and truly in his cheek there are a lot of possibilities for a fourth faction based on the time frame given with using the E Wing and the willingness to take from flimsy EU with the Decimator.

My guess would be mandalorian's but I am sure there are many many more possibilities.

Incidentally I am surprised people like WonderWhat are still commenting at all, how is that third faction treating you?

or are you still denying it?

:)

I could see a forth faction sometime in the future, but not for several Waves at least.

All sarcasm aside, I'll definitely buy a civilian ship if they ever make one. I personally find it boring just to fight until one side is destroyed and generally prefer scenario-based games. I could totally see a sort of "objective" ship that you have to board, disable or destroy. Who knows, maybe someday they'll even announce a different format for tournament play where one way to win is to kill the opponents freighter/capital ship. ;-)

The only 4th faction i Could see Here Are the CIS. Why? U asking? Because there were still dozens of separatestic planets out there while the whole galaxy watched the 2 Civil wars the rebels and empire fought out

Although a release of civilian ships might make sense from both a gameplay scenario and in-universe perspective, they probably wouldn't justify being an entirely separate faction. People may want one or two transports but would enough shell out for half a dozen of them considering they would play like a HWK or neutered Lambda? Like the YTs and GR75 they'd probably be lumped into the Rebel list, or S&V if the ship as canonical scummy connections [barloz vs Vigo, for example].

And my bets are also with Faction 4 being Unaffiliated; Corporate Sector, Chiss, Mandalorians, Hapes. Plenty of ships in there, and the right era.

So when do we get coralskippers?

Hopefully never. The Vong are the worst thing to happen to SW since the Christmas Special.

From FFG's recent RPG press release .

As you can plainly see, the RPG already has 3 factions exactly word-for-word identical to X-Wing's...with a fourth being "Citizens of the Galaxy".

Obviously , this is the next faction. I absolutely commend FFG for this, too - it's visionary! And there are worlds of newly-possible play modes it will open up...

  • Heroically pilot your unarmed freighter on a straight line through open space...hopefully avoiding capture (sorry, "liberation") by Rebels...or lawful detainment by Imperials for speeding...or enslavement by Scum and Villainy... while not actually able to take any action or do anything about that EXCEPT 'hope'!
  • Peacefully protest the violence in the galaxy by silently "sitting in" and watching Rebel and Imperial starfighters dogfighting nearby - carefully taking no action to indicate a side or preference other than protesting the senselessness of the war!
  • Stoically serving beer and food at local cantinas to Rebel *or* Imperial forces, while being dreadfully cautious about saying anything around them - as you can't actually tell them apart , and you don't want to risk offending them by mis-identifying them as their enemy!
  • Grimly commiserating with the wounded, at nearby pubs after a battle, offering support and condolences without knowing the extent of the struggles they had seen, whether they had even won to the extent-hoped-for...or lost miserably...just knowing a battle had been hard fought in orbit, and they survived it!

(And I so totally have been trying - without any success at all - to introduce my wife to the game through one of the other three factions...I'm optimistic this new faction will finally be the ticket!)

I gosh please help me... My TIE Interceptor squadron has been jumped by a space tourist craft piloted by David Lee Roth. IM #$*#%@ now...

Why the hate for the Holiday Special?

The Holiday Special:

  • 1st appearance of Boba Fett
  • Prognosticated the popularity of cooking shows
  • Revealed Kashyyyk
  • introudced Lumpy

Long live Life Day!

Oh... okay. Then I'm a black guy.

So its jumping to conclusions based on data that's from other game. I will go back to "ban C3PO" threads to look for sanity, well, if you compare to this one they at least make sense :D

Maybe it's a faction of obstacles.....
