Droid Upgrades

Just spitballing here, but how about if it was reactive armor? The cybernetic armor needs to sense the damage and react in some way. Perhaps changing shape to better absorb/deflect the damage. Hitting it with an ion would short out the sensing of the damage and make it so the armor can't react. Which turns the armor off.

Mostly the more I thunk about it, the less Ion+Cyberware=Auto Shorting Out makes sense.

I'm beginning to think that having Cyber should just make non-Droids susceptible to Ion weapons in the same way Droids are. Make things a bit simpler to my mind, no need to refigure dice pools when a Brain Implant goes offline, etc.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I didn't miss anything then in my reading. They just don't give a lot of details on it. I wonder if they are planning a droid sourcebook at some point.

There really isn't much reason for them to have a Droid Sourcebook. They kept it simple to provide the greatest number of options and possibilities. What would they likely put into such a book?

  • Attributes are selected by the player normally. You can tailor them to your design/character concept.
  • Additional built-in equipment for the model is simply purchased and assumed to be part of the droid. Armor, weapons, and gear can all be purchased in this manner.
  • Shape & design are simply decided by the player unless there is a in-game benefit.
  • Base Droid Kits - They have examples of droids in nearly every source-book. Just like races, I doubt they will have a compilation book.

If you are looking for ideas, I would suggest wookiepedia or possibly a visual guide to droids. I think one exists. It isn't a game book, just a movie/series companion trade paperback.

I'd still like to see more, although not necessarily in a book of its own.

A while back one of the characters decided to go as a pit droid/slicer. He had a blast.

But in the nitty gritty, he was a silhouette smaller... what does that mean for rules... does that affect the starting XP?

Its not critical, but I'd like to see something.

Nope. Just like Toydarians, it doesn’t affect the XP or anything. It will affect combat from anyone/anything that is Silhouette 2, however — just like a Toydarian, they’ll be harder to hit.

Wow. You have a small legal section for your signature. Does it help?

I believe that it has helped defuse a few situations that could have turned into much more nasty arguments, yes.

If I didn’t think it was useful, then I wouldn’t do it.

I wasn't sure if it was for comedic value or not. I would have hoped that most gamers would understand those basic concepts, but if it helps I am glad.

How on earth did you conclude that? Starting XP is based on the characteristics of the race.

That was actually the basis of my point — it doesn’t matter what size your droid is, it still starts out with the same amount of initial XP available to spend.

So, being a Silhouette smaller than average doesn’t make that starting XP go up or down, but being a smaller Silhouette will have an impact in certain types of combat with certain types of enemies.
