Mini Z-swarm and....
I'm still a rookie, so take my comment with a grain of salt...but I think Etahn works better with that list. Wedge is awesome, but he doesn't really do anything to help out your Z squad, whereas Etahn gives them all more punch.
DROP THE MISSILES! Never ever use missiles and torps. Ever. Except with Blount. But Etahn would work better with Zs.
Edited by tiefanaticNever ever use missiles and torps.
That's just not true.
Z-95's are made for missiles, and they're cheap enough to make taking them worth it. Also the new proton rocket on A's is going to give the refit a run for it's money.
A number of the old missiles and torps were not cost effective until the Z-95's, but now they're actually worth taking because you can take so many of them. In fact the only reason to take more then 1 or 2 Z's is because you're going to load them with missiles.
But I do agree with tiefanatic that Etahn is a better choice to go with the Z Swarm. I tried it once and it's quite effective.
Edited by VanorDMCan't say I care for your first list. Wedge just sticks out like a sore thumb, and you're really gambling that you can keep him alive or do enough damage with assault missiles before he dies.
I like the second list much better, but I don't really care for proton rockets on the Z-95 because they are hard to reliably get into range one without getting blown to bits before they fire.
I'd mix up the munitions a bit to give Etahn PTL + R2 so he can turtle up, since you know he'll have a huge bullseye.
Etahn list is definitely better, however both lists make the same mistake of wasting points souping up the Z's, and with bad upgrades at that. Run Z's naked, and give Etahn either Predator for accuracy or PTL for turtling, and R2-D2 for survival.
Also to the poster above who claims Z's being cheap makes rockets good; no, no it doesn't. A Z being cheap doesn't change anything about how good to rocket is, in fact, being cheap is even more reason not to take the rocket, because then you lose your greatest benefit. It doesn't matter what the platform or what the potential, with the exception of Blount's guarantee on Assault/Ion Torpedoes, these are one-shot hit-or-miss weapons that are expensive, immediately red flagging them as no-go territory for points efficiency.
Edited by GodlessMimicryThanks guys much appreciated!
I will go with Etahn tomorrow night; completely understand he is the better option here, I was thinking of Wedge as a lone wolf so my opponent would have to pick a target.
Here's an updated list, I'm expecting quite a few Firespray's and YT's judging by the last tournament so seems Blount with Ion Pulse would be good? If I picked my moment right I could muck someone up for a few rounds. How would you guys use the remaining 8 points?

With some of those points upgrade that R2 to R2-D2. Trust me, the staying power Etahn has with that little fella is incredible. In my last game I faced double Firespray and a Defender and by the time my Z's were all knocked out only one Firespray had gone down. Etahn took out both other ships on his own thanks to R2-D2 keeping him alive. With the other 5, I would probably bump all the Bandits to Talas, and maybe give Blount an EPT.
I agree about upgrading to R2-D2. He's always been incredibly effective when I've used him. One other possible route, however; keep the list as is, but change one of the bandits to Airen Cracken. His pilot ability is way cool, and passing actions to Etahn or Blount will make you more effective. That would take you to 99 points, which might be a better use of the leftover points.
I've been in the office 5 mins and I've already opened my squad builder. Good job!
Cracken + Swarm Tactics
Tala + Cluster Missiles
Bandit
Bandit
Etahn + R2D2 + Elusiveness
Or drop a Bandit, and turn the other one to a Tala with Cluster Missiles, and then add some upgrades to Etahn.
I would use the etahn list but drop all the missiles and try to trade in one z for Biggs. Otherwise etahn will be easily the first to go.

Clusters plus Etahn are brutal. You're generating an easy 2+ crits on multiple attacks. It's nasty. Especially if you're expecting any low agi ships like a YT, or Decimator.
So after my first game with Ethan with R2-D2 and Ptl, Cracken with Swarm tactics and then 3 bandits(one with cluster) went badly I chose to change things around. I kept forgetting to use swarm tactics and whichever E-wing I use always ends up doing a lone wolf thing.
