How would you attack this list?

By majikforce, in X-Wing

Some friends and I have a friendly little tournament going and its down to the finals. I am flying my rebel list against my friends Imperial list. His imperial list has gone undefeated throughout the round robin and so far through the playoffs. He is running:

Soontir w/ PTL

Howlrunner

Dark Curse

Academy 3X

My list:

Wedge w/ Predator

Luke w/ Predator

Corran w/ FCS

I lost during the round robin to him. My strategy was to take out the Academy's first since they were in the closest range when attacking began. I was able to get him to fight in the asteroid field and it really screwed up his formations. But alas I made a crucial flying error with Wedge and an ill timed double attack with Corran and I lost. My question is what is the best way to attack this list? In a perfect world I would focus fire Soontir and Howlrunner first but is that always best when they are at range three during the first couple rounds of attacking? Just wondering what the more experienced players might do. Thanks for the input.

Probably should have gone for howl first even at range 3. She has no upgrades, so all she would have for defense is a single evade or focus. The three of your ships should have a good chance of killing her, which will make the other tie's attacks back at you much weaker. In the unlikely event you don't kill her, I'd take corran's second shot to finish her off in the end phase.

After that, if you can get good shots on fel take them, otherwise try to take down an academy a turn. I'd save Dark Curse for last since you can waste a lot of attacks before killing him sometimes.

In order of Target priority.

1. Kill Howlrunner. It will severely hamper his shooting.

2. Kill Soontir. Wedge is your man, followed by a Horn double tap.

3. Kill the Academies as dark Curse is a nightmare.

Obviously, if you have an easy kill on any ship, take it.

That would be my approach.

Its really not that scary as said before howl>soontir then anything else.

Set your target priority and stick to it unless movement means you cant shoot your prime target.

Probably with a hammer... but it depends on how much I like my opponent. :D

is the list on a tablet, if not fire would be better surely?

Hobo - I find using a hammer is more cathartic in any situation.

I would gun 100% for Soontir personally.

If he sets Fel up for a flanker, I'd try to isolate and destroy him first, if not, I'd try to drop Howlrunner, then Fel. After that, probably going for focusing on targets as they present themselves.

I was sitting on my computer, playing Dota, when I heard a knock at my door. I answered, and there were a pair of well dressed men there, with books in their hands.

"Hello friend, we were wondering if you had a minute, we would like to tell you about our lord and savior."

"Sure" I mumbled, not really interested but not wanting to be rude.

From then one they went on to tell me a tale of a strange but wonderful man.

"He sacrificed his own life, so that others may live eternally."

"Through this man, we can all find redemption against the evils of our world."

"His name is Biggs Darklighter, and on the 3rd turn he died, so that Wedge could go on to shoot down tie fighters and win the game."

They then handed me a pamphlet full of information, and ever since then I have been a believer. Please try to following list, and you too may come to accept Biggs into your heart.

Wedge-flechette torpedo, predator, hull upgrade

Mormons won't visit my home anymore ever since I converted one of them to pastafarianism.

My approach would be :

1 - Give him initiative if possible (to be able to target lock howl with Luke and Corran)

2 - Try to form a "clump" of asteroids in the middle, unevenly spaced to make formation flying harder.

3 - Since he has the swarm, he would have to set it up before me. I would therefore place my ships in a way so that his swarm would be forced to enter the "clump" or go around it.

4 - Take my time early in the round and prioritise targets as stated by others (Howl dies first)
