Sister Mandy????????

By allstar64, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

When I originally read Sister Mary's Personal story I thought that it was Briliant. It Made her much better.

However I realized after coming here and reading some posts on this board my interpretation might not be correct.

My interpretation was that once activated she could re-roll one dice during the upkeep phase for ANY investigator thus protecting everyone's retainers and blessings. This is made better by the fact that 2 other people will likely get blessed to help her complete her story thus there will be a lot of protected blessed people in the game.

Other people here have voiced opinions that it only works for Sister Mary.

The problem is her "Fear No Evil" can be interpreted either way (geez this sounds familiar). All other Dice affecting abilities in the game either specifically say they work for all investigators or only the investigator who activated the ability.

A strictly literal interpretation isn't possible since one might argue that since the card says "Sister Mary may exaust" that this specifically mentions her and that only she can use it.

On the other hand it says "re-roll a die rolled during the upkeep phase" and since it just says "a die rolled" rather than "a die she rolled" that the Sister Mandy interpretation is correct.

Personally I'm going to play it for all investigators. Its probably on the same level of strength as Mandy's ability but Its delayed and Sister Mary's starting items and other ability aren't really good enough on their own to complain about over powering.

On another note I'll probably be soon posting a tier ranking of the new investigators to fulfil my need to analytically analyze and compare characters and gripe about how such and such was completly shafted (of common someone has to do it) so be looking out for it and be readyu to argue.

Can't really answer that, but got a related issue. Looking at her PS cards (thanks to ColtsFan on BGG), seems like IF she loses her starting Blessing some time during the game and then hasn't completed the Pass clause, against Yig at the Start of Battle, she should (assuming she hasn't been Cursed previously) achieve her Fail clause, toss the Curse and stick around Blessed?

OT: Minor gripe about the IH GOOs. Not a fan of the "nyah, nyah, you're devoured with no way of preventing it" attacks (okay, some items, Messenger Ally against some, but still). They make the earlier GOO's attack seem pathetically weak. My nemesis Glaaki, Terror up by 1, whoop de freaking doo!

Agreed. Take Nyarlathotep, arguably the most sinister creature in the mythos: he allows you to roll Lore to see if you shall lose a single Clue token , and you won't be devoured until you've lost all your Clues. Now, some weird jungle god no-one's ever heard of makes you automatically lose three Clues or an Ally (I sure hope it's or , not and - the text is a bit unclear), plus he gets a nasty combat-ability to boot. And I won't even start with the silly dustman, who kills all the allies, is immune to everything and just devours the first player automatically...

I mean, I understand the difficulty level needed to be raised (because the base-game is so ridiculously easy for experienced players), but could there've been some other methods to achieve the same effect without making the original AOs look like *******? I loved the Epic Battle cards of Kingsport, but why couldn't these new AOs have been given powerful Sinister Plot cards instead of making them to be so much stronger than the old ones (heh) outright?

Yig isn't easy. Well, not easy to win against. Seeing as I count final combat "wins" as draws, Yig's one of the hardest to win (close/seal) against. Also, I play random everything, every game.
