Asteroid & Debris Cloud

What happen if you move through/hit both during a ships movement?

Here is the FAQ:

Q: After a ship moves through or overlaps more than one obstacle, does the owner roll an attack die for each of these obstacles?
A: No. He rolls only one attack die regardless of the number of obstacle tokens his ship moves through or overlaps.
Looks to me you resolve both but only roll once. Agreed?

I definitely disagree. You are only rolling 1 die for going over 2 asteroids because you are only suffering the effect of 1 asteroid and ignoring the other. Therefore it would be safe to assume that if you went over an asteroid and debris field, you would only suffer the effects of one. Up until now there was only 1 effect from an obstacle so they didn't need to state that you only suffered the effect of one of them.

The problem is asteroids and debris have different penalties:

  1. Asteroids: Maneuver, skip Perform Action, roll for normal or critical damage, no attack if you're still on the asteroid.
  2. Debris: Manuever, assign stress token, roll for critical damage, can attack if you're still on the debris.

If only one of them is going to apply, which is it? An obvious answer would be whatever you end a maneuver on would apply. But if you manage to move through and clear one of each, do you apply the first one or the last one? Clearly, debris clouds are more forgiving than asteroids.

I suspect we could be due for an updated FAQ (covering this and a few other topics) when the VT-49 and YT-2400 are officially released.

I think we went over this in another thread.

moving over the obstacles you do this:

If you cross multiple Obstacles you still roll only one dice. If both Obstacles are debris fields you suffer any Crit rolled. If either or both are Asteroids you suffer any Hit or Crit rolled, since this satisfies the rule for both Obstacles crossed,

If either Obstacle is an Asteroid you skip the perform Action Step

If either Obstacle is a Debris Cloud you assign a Stress token tot he ship after the check pilot stress step.

As for attacking, that still depends on what type of Obstacle you land on.

This is still just conjecture - there has been no official ruling. And I still don't agree with this.

If I move over an asteroid and debris field and roll a hit, that would mean I would take a hit (from the asteroid) and gain a stress (from the debris field). I would be receiving the full effect of both obstacles (since if I just went over a debris field and rolled a hit I would only get a stress). This makes 0 sense - if I went over 2 asteroids I would not suffer the full effect from both, so why when the 2 obstacles are different? There is nothing in the rules to support this.

It actually makes perfect sense. Ignoring one of the obstacles does not make sense.

Yo always suffer the effect of all obstacles you overlap. The standard obstacle effect is one die roll. Plus skip Action Step. Debris effext is one die roll plus stress. Overlapping both logically resukts in one die roll, skip action and stre. Because nothinf in the rules allow you to ignore the effects of an obstacle. And the faq clarifies that you inly roll one die.

And once again the FAQ aligns with my assessment. Was arguing this point for weeks, super glad to see the FAQ will put and end to this discussion...

But it is worth mentioning that your opponent chooses which one effects you.
