Tierfon Yellow Aces Build
Porkins with no upgrades?
Y-wing with blaster turret?
Dis is best list. 10/10
You might be better off dropping one of the Y-Wings and then using those points to spread some upgrades around. I like the flavor of the list, but I doubt it will be competitive in its current format.
Sorry man, but this is not a very strong list. As was mentioned a blaster turret without a reliable source of foci is wasted, and Porkins works very well with Push the Limit or his droid. And tbh a 2PS is not real great these days with so many predators around. I can offer some suggestions to make this better, but I need to know what the important elements are for you. Do you need the y's? Are Wes and Jek necessary? Does it need to be four ships? We can use some of those elements, but all of them in one list is, well, suicide.
@Lagomorphia - Trying to keep this a 4 ship squad, while still making the Y-Wings worthwhile, so I didn't have the points for upgrades for the X's. Didn't even have the points to give both Y's solid turrets, as others commented.
@Ayleron - see above. Points.
Also, I kind of like the idea of Blount with an Assault missile.
@Correlian Corvette - is that because you would love to munch it up?
I did just fly it today with the Blount substitution (because I don't actually have two Y-Wings) vs. a Tie swarm (three interceptors, three fighters), and managed to chew them up and spit them out.
@Jedhead - I think I will definitely keep Blount with Assault instead of the second Y and blaster turret. I'm not as excited about three-fighter builds (as opposed to three ship with a large ship builds), just because of the lower number of guns.
@Futant420 - I agree that it's not terribly strong. I built it thematically, which is pretty much why it has so many weaknesses - the Aces were a Y-Wing group, which is why I wanted them (and had Yellow in the name, which led me to pick the Golds). It is a training group, so having them flame out dramatically would be pretty appropriate (though as mentioned above, I did manage to murderkill a swarm today with the Blount substitution - though I think that was partly because my opponent is still trying to figure out how to fly swarm effectively).
I'm curious about why Porkins works well with Push the Limit. The droid does seem pretty great in synergy, but it does seem a bit expensive and action-eating (which kind of nullifies the action-freedom that stress creates and Porkins can avoid).
Agree that 2 pilot skill is a rough deal, but I do really like the idea of at least having one Gold Y-Wing. Would a Grey be noticeably better?
So, elements I'd like to keep - Wes, Jek, at least one Y-Wing (preferably not named). I'd like it to be four ships. Other than that, I'm pretty flexible. What do you think about the list with added Blount + Assault Missile?
Thanks for the comments!
Although I still wouldn't like it substitute a Rebel Operative + Ion Turret in place of the Gold + Blaster. Dislike the Blaster on a Y-Wing so much that's I'd even suggest this substitution. Bonus, it leaves you another point to spend.
Hmm. I could see that. It might make sense as a support ship for a training squadron.

If your not looking to win a tournament and enjoy a challenge, then play 4 Y-wings if its the theme your most interested in. Winning ain't everything.
I can see where the OP is trying to go with this list but yeah there are some mismatches.
For example Blaster Turret is way better on a HWK because of Recon Specialist which can double focus and you need focus to use it. Not to say Blaster Turret can't work on a Y-wing however you need something like Kyle or Gaven to pass focus to the Y-wing in order to make it effective. Or anything that can give free actions so the Y-wing can pull a TL then use the focus for it's action. Having a 360 weapon makes it easier to hit a ship even if it is outside the firing arc.
Porkens can be a stress sink but what makes his ability any good is that it can sink stress. So giving him an upgrade that assigns stress helps remove the disadvantages for that upgrade by using a risk reward system. Things like Expert Handling or PTL will be real handy on Porkins assuming he doesn't kill himself. (note: be sure to yell I can hold it every time you roll and yell I've got a problem here every time Jek hurts himself)
Wes is good control to mess up your opponent however I don't see where in your squad he would do better. Gaven would be a better choice or something that allows extra actions or pass focus. Especially if you have a blaster turret on a Y-wing.
So first, Porkins ability is to immediately eat a stress to maybe take a damage (3/8 chance). Coupled with his droid which lets him have an even better chance (5/8) to just discard this damage should he even take it in the first place. Coupled with PtL it can be quite fearsome, but it really shines when used "correctly" which is another way of saying tactically efficiently. So, yes it's pricey, but it does kick some ass.
So the PS2 dilemma. It's as simple as 'if your opponent has predator and you take PS2 then you are giving him essentially a free target lock action every shooting turn'. Sorry, but that's just the truth. Now, not everyone runs predator, so you might get lucky. This is where knowing your opponent gives you an advantage. When it comes to predator, you really NEVER waste the points upgrading PS. So for my money, Grays over Golds all day unless they are thematically necessary.
As far as the list with Blount added, he is a fun card and priced well, but I'm almost always pushed somewhere else for the points he costs. i.e. a Tala and another upgrade.
So having read your necessities, I would offer this squad to you for some added survivability:
Wes + Swarm Tactics = 31
Jek + Push the Limit + R5-D8 = 32
Gold Squadron Pilot + R2 unit + Ion Cannon Turret = 24
Tala Squadron Pilot = 13
100 points
So with this build you want Wes to pass his 8 to your GSP so he cant be predator'd and so his ion will make the most difference. Jek is your flanker and the Tala is there to shoot and be shot (they are surprisingly awesome, even naked).
Hope this is what you were looking for. Fly it and let us know how you did!
That sounds like a really great upgrade - thanks! I will definitely try it!
