How many do I need advice requested

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing

Question: Do you need more than 4 (four) of any upgrade? If so what one(s)? Is there any that you absolutely need at least 4 of (Hull upgrade)?

I try to keep enough for both sides to play epic. Also I try to keep a balanced fleet rather than spam squads. So you'll only find one of each Large ship. I appreciate everyone's advice on ships and tokens, but what about upgrades. To help let me share what I have:

With the poll I ended up getting:

http://boardgamegeek.com/article/15717221#15717221

Rebels

2 - A-Wing

4 - B-Wing (will include Aces)

2 - E-Wing

4 - X-Wing

2 - Y-Wing

4 - Z-95

1 - HWK-290

1 - YT-1300

Imperials

2 - TIE Advanced

4 - TIE Bomber

2 - TIE Defender

8 - TIE Fighters

4 - TIE Interceptors (including Aces)

2 - TIE Phantom

1 - Fire Spray

1 - Lambda

For Counters I ended up with 20 to 40 of each (okay 40 of each I'm CDO) and 60 for shields:

Small ship bases I went with 25. This should be enough for 400pt/side games.

But what about: Question: Do you need more than 4 (four) of any upgrade? If so what one(s)? Is there any that you absolutely need at least 4 of (Hull upgrade)?

I've seen people here with many more ships and many with much less; so I think I'm some where in the middle. I appreciate any good ideas and input.

I see a problem here, you have more B-wings than Y-wings. Honestly though, that's pretty good except, you don't need that many Bombers unless you love them, Maybe 3 Ys and 3 As. (btw As come in Aces as well as Bs). Don't think you absolutely need 4 of any upgrade, but having lots of PtLs is always good.

Don't buy ships for upgrades. Buy ships for ships. In casual nobody's going to care that you're one copy of Wingman down.

Actually I wasn't buying ships for upgrades. I'm looking at what I have and if I'm short I'm printing proxies.

Just curious what would be the right amount to carry.

Or put differently, what are the most popular upgrades that I should have plenty of?

Why is that a problem Bs and Ys? Both have two torpedoes, the B-Wing is more of a multi-purpose heavy fighter. Between the Y-s and B-s we should be okay against an Imperial Huge.

The imperials are more crunchy/squishy so typically they field in bigger numbers, i.e TIE L/n interceptors. The Rebels are more forgiving with shields.

I agree with above poster. I have never used four TIE Bombers, and I have never used more than two B-Wings, so unless you really love those ships, it is probably overkill. Two of each would be plenty in my opinion.

Of course, it is your money, so you can do whatever you want with it.

Oh, you just want to know which upgrades to have on hand? Push the Limit, Advanced Sensors, Stay On Target probably, and maybe Munitions Failsafe if people like using Headhunters. Really it depends very heavily on what people in your area generally like to play.

Ken, I'm in the Broward area, can I ask where you play? With the exception of home games with half willing family members and occasional monthly tournaments I cannot properly get my X-wing on!

Only upgrade I can see myself using 4 or more times in the one list is Chaardan Refit. 'Cause A swarms.

Funny everyone is trying to help by telling me what I shouldn't have gotten; I was wondering if anyone read my post? I don't know if two of each ship will work well for a 400 Point Epic game. I'm trying to picture 2 TIE L/n, 2 TIE Advanced and 2 TIE bombers attacking a fully loaded CR-90. Interestingly though the poster above that recommend 3 A-Wings and 3 Y-Wings.

Seriously though I do appreciate the input.

I'm up in Palm Beach. I don't get to play as often as I'd like. I've played at Docking Bay 94. What about you?

Cards which I think you could potentially use 4+ in a list:

Push the Limit

Veteran Instincts

Ion Cannon Turret

R2 Astromech

Swarm Tactics

Concussion Missiles

Assault Missiles

Ion Pulse Missiles

Flechette Torpedoes

Proton Torpedoes

Shield Upgrade

Hull Upgrade

Engine Upgrade

Stealth Device

Chardaan Refit

A-wing Test Pilot

Royal Guard TIE

Seismic Charges

Proton Bombs

Proximity Mine

Fire Control System

Advanced Sensors

Sensor Jammer

Adrenaline Rush

Munitions Failsafe

Wingman

Outmaneuver

Predator

Stay On Target

Proton Rockets

Ruthlessness

Targeting Computer

Opportunist

Bwing/E2

Some of those would only be for pretty kooky lists, though.

Truthishly, I think you should buy as many as you possibly can afford. The more you like the ship, the more of that one you should buy. I mean lets face it, these things look frickin' awesome filling shelves covering the walls!

I really think you should get 2 Firesprays and 2 Lambdas... they're very good ships in 100 pts too at two in a list.

Also sometimes you need them to do specific roles. Like having two TacGunner Shuttles in the 300 list can help a list synergizing around stress
